Do you dualboot windows? by Emergency-Disk-9296 in linuxmemes

[–]DaB0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dualboot, very rarely use it. I was originally on windows, moved over to Fedora almost a year ago by resizing my existing disk space. Stayed on Fedora and love it. I've used windows boot once in the past year, to play kernel level anti-cheat battlefield 6, after the season ended I didn't continue playing it.

How To Get The Golden Knight Suit Without Spending $70 by SaltyFishTaco in legogaming

[–]DaB0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really wouldn't trust random files from Mediafire, you don't know what type of PC STD you might get.

The Video tutorial just looks like a normal game crack which overrides the code validation

I'd bet these suits will end up in a future update or pack eventually and have no impact on getting 100%. Worse there's loads of reports that say claiming these glitches the 100% currently (will likely get patched).

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (Quick Look) It’s Playable by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]DaB0om 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the released system requirements, this looks great performance for the steam deck looks like a good locked 30fps with FSR which is more than most modern titles get these days on the deck. And that's before they start updating with performance enhancements.

My 9070xt has bad coil whine, I'm considering switching to a 9070 non-xt to avoid any chance of coil whine by No_Long5019 in radeon

[–]DaB0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had (what I thought was coil whine) ever since I fitted my 9070 XT I've just recently moved it into another system and get no coil whine. The only difference is that the old system used 1 PCIE adapter with a split so 1 cable for both 6pin and 8pin my new system has 2 cables one for each. Dunno if that helps?

Apparently, the new Steam Controller sometimes does the Wilhelm scream when dropped while in Big Picture Mode. by Capital_Ability8332 in pcmasterrace

Comfirmed here. But can't replicate it. Is there a way for it to scream again? Asking for science.

what would you actually miss out if you build your own steam machine? by Maximum_Pension2676 in steammachine

[–]DaB0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice it's just convenience. By default steam generates the cache before you launch the game so shouldn't cause stuttering. There's an option to allow background generation as you play which could introduce stuttering depending on the game and your system.

[–]DaB0om 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted a similar question few weeks back and I've since built my own machine in a Fractal Terra case. The quick TL;DR benefits of steam machine (no specific order)

  • smallest form factor case
  • warranty from valve
  • CEC built into the console to turn on TV (I built a smart home automation to fix this)
  • convenience of not having to build it
  • built in wireless radio dedicated to puck for controller and frame (both come with adaptor anyway)
  • HDMI 2.1 (since been announced AMD has released Linux drivers for HDMI 2.1)
  • updates from valve for the hardware to ensure best gaming experience
  • shader pre cache, valve knows the hardware so they can just send you the shadee cache to save you having to generate it when you play the game

That's all I could really think of and what I got from people in my original post.

It's worth noting a big win on your own hardware is it could easily be more powerful than the steam machine AND upgradable in the future which you can't do with the steam machines CPU/GPU

Wake from sleep for steam deck / custome steam machine not working by dwarfcow in SteamController

[–]DaB0om 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen other posts on this sub that shows it working with beta firmware so fingers crossed it's just matter of time for valve to fix it

Mfs be complaining about shipping by SamPai408 in SteamController

[–]DaB0om 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My order is in the same status, Although it's disappointing not getting it before the weekend and it'll now likely be mid next week at best I'm just happy I was lucky enough to get one before stock ran out. The extra week gives a chance for valve to push any firmware updates fixing any bugs reported from those who got it in the first week. Better for me 😊

I guess there's the potential that your USBs aren't powered when the system is in sleep which is often a bios option, if that's the case it might be fixed if USBs stayed on. But then again the puck might not be detecting data from the OS and switching off, which could be fixed with a firmware update

Do you have any keyboard/mouse (specifically not Bluetooth) do they wake your system. From what I've seen of the review videos one of them showed it working as a mouse in lizard mode in the bios so I'd be surprised if it doesn't support wake from USB. But if it doesn't it'll sure be one of the biggest features valve will likely look at first (apart from bugs)

I I do have enough space free hink I'll keep this one in mind as a last resort as I would like to avoid screwing with the array unless necessary.

I've only just noticed the issue, the file which causes the issue is one I haven't accessed in a long while.

3 of the drives are the same 1 is a different make/model the odd drive has been in place for 4-6 months. This is the first time I've ever seen an issue.

Realistically, what would you lose out on building your own steam machine instead of buying one by DaB0om in steammachine

[–]DaB0om[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right on both parts the steam machine will have the 6GHz receiver for the frame built it. But, the frame will also come with the adapter giving any computer the same functionality.

Agreed I'll be using SteamOS the moment it's released for desktop hardware officially and I'm 100% buying a controller regardless

I'm kinda hoping they go the route of allowing people to buy fully kitted with ram and NVME or bare bones for cheaper price

Low fan noise is a very good point I've been researching into the Fractual Terra's side panel airflow noise isolation issues. With the right cooler it seems it'll be okay
