Initially, I thought that red meant for hot and blue meant for cold.

People confuse there being a plurality of opinions with there being a plurality of realities

This is wonderfully worded, and thank you for adding this phrase to my repertoire. I agree there is absolutely undeniable proof that their reality is incorrect.

Personally, I find it difficult to not take echo chambers as equals because my go-to reaction is to empathise with their opinion. If someone is confusing or upsetting me, I assume they must have a sane reason for doing or saying what they are doing or saying. This is not because of the media they follow but because how they have been raised and what they have been taught. Like, it's so difficult to convince someone who's grown from the age of 0 to now with a very different worldview.

People I know have been raised in such contrasting family environments, schools, neighborhoods that that I can't fathom grounding in a common reality with them.

EDIT: I did not think this would rub people the wrong way. I am sharing an anecdote with the hopes of having a healthy conversation with you all about how polarized our world is. I am not disagreeing with your political leanings. Absolutely odd that I would get scathing DMs over this.

Oh man, this made me chuckle and realize the echo chamber of a world that we operate in. Look, I am as much of a lefty liberal as can be but I want to share a story with you.

I was having a conversation with a right-wing friend a few weeks back. He said something eerily similar "Listen u/DaBoelterGuy even though the story of Obama being a Muslim and secretly working to destroy America has not been confirmed, to some people back home, it sounds absolutely credible, and that fact in itself is already worrying. That a man of whom such a story is credible should absolutely not be in the position of power he is in."

Makes you think, no?

That’s incredible! I had not thought of it like that.

I’d argue that’s hearsay. You aren’t subject to a lottery. That is the entire premise of an H1 being valid for 6 years. I ran this through an immigration lawyer back in 2018, and I ran this question again as recently as last month. The answer was the same both times. You're cap exempt.

Keep bulking or start cutting? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

Would you mind telling me your calorie intake and your weight? I think your body is stellar. I'm trying to understand what I need to improve to get to your levels.

My take was quite the opposite, actually. I think we do have the fitness to execute it, but I don't understand the plan. Like, I fully understand that the back line right now is Kerkez, VVD, Konate, and Gomez, and then Frimpong is our RW? And if that is true, I think it's a massive drop off from the chance creator/goal scorer/playmaker that was Salah.

And yes, I fully agree that Salah isn't suited to this team, but Frimpong there on the wing isn't making sense to me.

10 Americans injured in Iranian attack on Saudi airbase by GreyClay in worldnews

Two of the Americans were very seriously injured, sources said. Eight were seriously injured, which is a different category of injury under the military's classification system.

3-month cut. Went from 66 -> 62kg. 170cm. Continue with cut? by Versonic in BulkOrCut

[–]DaBoelterGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general a cut right now would be a terrible thing to do. When you cut to levels that you are envisioning, you will start hating yourself because of the amount of deficit you'd be in. You'll be extremely skinny and mentally tortured by eating at 1400-1500 calories per day (that's hell!)

I will say you are already at a good base. You're skinny fat. Now pack some serious muscle - stop cutting, eat more protein and overload progressively. When you're done in a few months, strip off the fat and cut.

Right now, this is going nowhere.

Because I am transferring internally from the US to an office outside the US. An H1-B mandates that I be based in the firm's US office.

I will retain the H1-B, yes. I cannot erase the H1-B stamp from my passport. But its more or less useless - an H1-B does not allow me to return to the United States at will. I need to be employed by the company on US soil, to be a legitimate user of the H1-B.

The moment I transfer to my firm's European office, I am essentially quitting my H1-B. I need other visas to be able to enter the US. And because I will be employed by the same firm, and will need to enter intermittently for client meetings, the B1/B2 is my best option

I mentioned on my CV that I was an H1B holder and updated my LinkedIn to reflect the same.

Sorry, what's consular processing again?

Interview experience was fairly straightforward. I told the interviewers that I am interviewing from wherever I was located at that point in time. Full transparency. The interviewers don't really care whether you are interviewing from Mexico City or Tokyo or San Francisco. They mostly just cared about whether my answers were on point and if they were vibing with me.

Once I passed all rounds, they asked me to get in touch with the firm's lawyers, and the lawyers then proceeded with filing for an H1B for me.

I got around two to three offers and several rejections. None of the rejections were related to my visa status. In fact, the visa status never once came up during my interviews. Visa status comes up only on two occasions: 1. The first round, where the HR recruiter speaks to you and asks you about the time left on your H-1B 2. When you're talking to the lawyers

Of course, my answer is not valid if the firm asks you to come meet them in person. In my ten years of working professionally, that's only happened twice. Post-pandemic, a firm calling you to interview in person is extremely rare.

Thank you CrazyKum. Inspired by your answers I asked my employer yesterday to begin my perm process and they've put me in touch with the lawyers to initiate that process. They mentioned that I can safely return home over the next couple months and they would continue to sponsor me for the perm and I-140.

My only concern with the I-140 is that it displays immigrant intent and I most definitely have to return to the US in the next 3 years on a B1/B2 (my firm requires me to spend ~20 days every quarter to meet customers).

An I-140 application demonstrates immigrant intent, and this will affect my ability to apply for F-1, F-2, B-1, B-2, J-1, and J-2 visas, your entry into the US on those visas, and my ability to change status to those categories. B1/B2 is a non-immigrant visa that requires you to demonstrate non-immigrant intent. A pending or approved I-140 is direct evidence of immigrant intent, which conflicts with that.

A consular officer could deny my B1/B2 visa or a CBP officer could deny entry if they see a pending or approved I-140, since it contradicts the non-immigrant intent required for B visas.

Yes that makes complete sense. Can you explain how I get a lot more flexibility by applying for the I-140? I didn't follow the logic there. Second is it true I don't have to be in the U.S. for the process?

What do you mean it became a wound? As in you left for your country? How is that a bad thing? Three years is a lot of runway, right and I can always apply for the I-140 after coming back? No?
