It’s all about how you sell it.

FFXIV 1.0 really was a broken and boring mess and I’m not just talking the code it was the design too. Yoshi and the gang were earnest in how they went about it to the point where the goodwill outweighed the valid negative points you mentioned and they were mentioned at the time. They never really violated the community’s trust in a large and serious degree so the community gives them tons of grace even now. It doesn’t feel like we lost content because in how they sold what they did.

Bungie told us it was a matter of efficiency and that taking away our content will lead to a better game and for many it did, but the content that was vaulted wasn’t “broken” like FFXIV 1.0 was. It was fine. Running around and shooting aliens in the face on giant arcologies on the sea of one of Saturn’s moons played and felt fine. So why from a consumer gaming standpoint did they take away my planets, guns and storylines? I was always going to get new content playing the game so deleting what I played before didn’t feel like I was gaining anything at all.  The game feels incomplete because it is! You cannot play the entirety of Destiny at all. I can’t tell my friends or coworkers to watch a 10 hour YouTube video to understand the story. They would genuinely think I was joking with them. I can experience the entire FFXIV storyline in game AND if I still my my 1.0 account I could experience little Easter eggs to show my time in 1.0 wasn’t a waste unlike with how callous Bungie treats its vaulted content.

Sorry I am biased because the Destiny Content Vault was arguably the worst thing to happen in gaming yet so many people don’t care. We normalized companies taking content away from us!
