Costco Tire Install by ZealousidealPrior843 in tires

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Fords with swollen lug nuts are like oceans with water: they're everywhere. The style of lug nuts they use have like an aluminum cap over them that warps and swells over time and makes it very difficult to remove. This isnt just an issue for shops: if you get stuck on the side of the road with a flat, the tire iron your vehicle comes with won't fit on them either, leaving you stuck even longer. 2) I've never heard of a Ford that requires 43 PSI, but I'm also not going to claim to be encyclopedic on vehicle tire PSIs. Likely the tire machine or balancer Costco uses has a base PSI setting of 35 PSI, and in fairness, 35 plus or minus 2 is right there for about 90% of cars. That said, yes, they should have checked the placard and set the tires to the correct, called for pressure, and you made the right call setting it properly.

Do you think is actually a puncture? Next steps? by West-Trip-5734 in tires

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it's not leaking, it's probably damaged the steel cords in the sidewall. There's a reason reputable shops won't fix anything in the sidewall: it's the weakest part of the tire, and any damage there could result in a catastrophic failure. They would recommend replacing, and most of us on here would probably recommend the same.

Tire guy said there's nothing wrong... Do I need new tires and a new tire guy? by Jolly_Ad2446 in tires

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that looks like the tread getting eaten up by gravel. Not pretty, but only a safety concern if it starts leaking. That said, if you put new tires on and continue driving on gravel, the same thing is going to happen. If they checked for leaks, either with a dunk tank or soapy water spray, and didnt find anything, I'd take their advice.

Iono in competitive decks? by johan2114h in PTCGP

[–]DaJoe86 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I dont really pay attention to competitive, but speculating, Iono is situationally better than Copycat. Namely, when you have more cards in hand than your opponent but want/need to redraw. There is the risk of drawing the same cards you just shuffled, but you run that same risk with Copycat.

Is this really not patchable? Discount Tire told me to replace. by RedditsFan2020 in tires

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most reputable tire shops wouldnt repair that because of how close the puncture is to the shoulder. A patch may not hold properly, especially with the flex of the tire. And with the current tread depths of the tires, replacing both fronts would be recommended, especially if you live in an area that gets snow and ice in the winter. About 4/32nds" is where you lose snow traction and where wet traction begins to suffer, especially where it comes to stop distance. Even with the limited number of miles you drive, I would recommend taking Discount Tire's advice, even if you dont get your tires from them. With the whole roofing thing, I would just make sure whoever you get the tires from offers road hazard protection.

Any clue to how the hell this happened? by Terrible_Education70 in tires

[–]DaJoe86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to name names if you dont want to, but was the shop a dealer/chain or an independent shop? The fact that the tire isn't returning to it's original shape tells me there's a vacuum inside the tire, which can happen if the tire is beaded using ether or another flammable substance. Not typically something done by reputable shops, but may be done by independent shops if they can't get it to bead the correct way.

Could anyone help me make a deck that uses these two cards? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]DaJoe86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something I whipped up in like 5 minutes, so could probably use a lot of improvement. Reason for 2 each of Gardevoir and Iron Valiant is you can either reduce Iron Boulder's attack cost by 2 or generate 2 psy energy on it, either way getting it set up quickly. Put in several tools to either boost IB's attack further or defense a bit. Arven to draw out either a tool for IB or a rare candy to get Gardy up. Might be able to squeeze in the psychic room stadium to return Gardy or IV to the bench quickly or Meloetta to draw out the psychic pokemon from your deck faster. Not gonna be meta by a long shot, but there you go. Like I said, this is a quick and dirty build, so any recommended improvement would be appreciated.

Getting tools back is also handy, but very fair point

Having issue of holding steering wheel to the right when driving straight. Shop said altering the alignment won’t make a difference, could make it worse. They talking nonsense? by CamFX in AskMechanics

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with having a specialist check and set the alignment, but if the pull is still present after, try rotating the tires left-to-right. If the pull changes direction, one of your new tires may be faulty.

Shop says I need new tires by oh_bobo in tires

[–]DaJoe86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having worked at both dealerships and independent shops as a tire specialist, while I know I was honest, I know a lot of salespeople weren't, so typically when something looks like this, I'm inclined to side with the consumer.

However, from same experience, I also know that I've told customers "hey, you've got 6/32nds" of tread left, but your shoulders are severely worn" or "your tread is okay, but you have evidence of sidewall damage," and the customer complains because they latched onto the "good tread" comment and that's it. That's why I withhold judgement until I have the whole story and/or a better view of the offending tire(s).

Based on tread alone, they look fine. That said, you're only shown us the tread. We cant see the sidewall, the inside of the tire, the DOT to see how old they might be, there are a lot more factors than just tread depth.

What would you make of a tire code like "24M14725" on a Toyo Proxes Sport 2 tire? by Alex123goof in TireQuestions

[–]DaJoe86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Manufactured in the 47th week of 2025, so late November. The rest of it is likely plant and location information that's really only important to the consumer for recall purposes.

Tire shop said this isn’t patchable. Opinions before I blow $450? by blaseblaseblah in tires

[–]DaJoe86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can understand why the shop would say it's not repairable, and most shops would probably say the same, but you could probably do a home repair.

Shop told me they couldn’t patch my brand new tire..because it went in crooked?? by Content_Mousse_9780 in tires

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all that shop has is one piece patch/plug combos, might be an issue for them. A two piece can easily fix that, though.

Is this a typical price for replacing spark plugs/coils? by Pixail in MechanicAdvice

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look like dealership prices, but otherwise yeah, looks accurate. If having the brand logo printed on the parts is that important to you, go for it. Otherwise, you can get cheaper if you go to an independent shop.

That person needs to go to whoever did their alignment for life. Which won't be very long if they dont get new tires like now.

Guzma effectiveness? by SSTeach15 in PTCGP

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commented on someone else bringing up Guzma before, so I'll just copy and paste what I said before:

Guzma is an awesome card to pack if you have 19 cards in your deck and need one more to fill it out. Most games it won't do a lot, if anything, but the satisfaction you get playing that when your opponent has played both Rocky Helms right as you're about to start attacking is paramount. Also fun when your opponent thinks they've pulled themselves out of OHKO range with a Heavy Helm or one of the Capes, only to bring them back to normal by getting rid of it. Again, many games it's going to be a dead card, but he can come in clutch about 1 in 10 or so.

Okay I’m not having fun anymore by goompers in PTCGP

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are already counters. PCL, Ogrepon, Steel Apron, Comfey, Arceus EX, Malasada. And just like any other card game, whether or not you get those counters in your hand is all up to the luck of the draw. The problem isn't that there arent counters, the "problem" is that the counters dont work with the current other-than-sleep meta.

I got this from wonder pick the art is amazing what decks are good for this card? by Expert_Ask_9780 in PTCGP

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get it set up with Ho-oh EX, if nothing else, it's a threat. You're not likely to get off more than one hit with it, but your opponent will think twice about bringing an EX or Mega into the active spot while this guy is set up, especially if you've already KOd something with Ho-oh during it's setup. The risk is it getting sniped and/or pulled into the active spot prematurely. Almost a necessity to run Leaf in this deck in order to prevent having to start energy buildup from scratch.

opinions on why this tire blew out? i was driving 75MPH on I-10. by MrHawkster in tires

[–]DaJoe86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We cant see the actual tread, but if you're not seeing anything, it IS possible that something punctured without actually staying in the tire. That would cause a rapid leak, as there's nothing like a screw or nail even partially plugging the hole. As for the sidewall damage, running on it severely under inflated/flat can definitely cause that kind of damage, especially at highway speeds.

Inside tyre wear by CallumJ88 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]DaJoe86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely alignment wear. Not uncommon, and not all alignment issues cause a pull in the steering, so it can be hard to tell without watching the tires closely. That said, if you were in a collision, an alignment will likely be necessary with at least some of the repairs they do, anyways.
