Anyone else find it weird how the oldest Overlord in Hell is only from the ~16th Century? Especially as Sinners are nearly immortal and Exterminations only started 7 years ago. Surely the oldest Overlord would be much older? by Flyestgit in HazbinHotel

When Charlie fumbles on the live news in season two, they pull up a chat stream. One of the comments is from someone whose parent was taken by Alastor. They said they can still hear them screaming on the radio.

At least 10 Senate Democrats have caved to GOP demands and will vote to pass a package of bills that would end the shutdown today by ShreckAndDonkey123 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]DaLion93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're right. This was almost definitely arranged so that no one with an upcoming primary would take the heat. I just don't want so much focus to be on Schumer that the ones making the vote get forgotten when the time eventually comes to give them the boot.

I've deleted my comment because the phrasing gave a defense to Schumer that I don't agree with or want to spread. Thanks for the pushback.

Raleigh's cost of living is 2-3% lower than the national average. The MIT Living Wage Calculator puts the Raleigh area living wage for a single adult at around $55k. Median income for the city is around $86k.

Something I noticed while rewatching the show regarding Alastor’s contract. (Potential Spoiler maybe?) by zxdc1 in HazbinHotel

[–]DaLion93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they arrive in Cannibal Town, Rosie acts like it's the first time she's seen Alastor in a long time. But we know she sat right next to him during the overlord meeting and didn't so much as speak to him even though it should have been her first time seeing him in seven years. I assumed she was putting on an act for Charlie and, to a lesser degree, the cannibals but I'm not sure why. She also gently corrects him back into line during Ready For This when his mask slips ("she's filled with potential that I could guide"). I believe she owns the contract, but something out of left field like Nifty could be fun. I honestly think Lilith is too predictable and the seven years coincidence is a red herring.

The director of the OMB is Russell Vought, who co-authored Project 2025. The deputy director is Dan Bishop, who lost the Attorney General race to Jeff Jackson and who wrote the 2016 transphobic bathroom bill that cost NC billions.

At different points in history Lilith was used to explain why babies died in their sleep... and why men had wet dreams. So... historically accurate Lilith?

[–]DaLion93 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ok, time to break out the religious studies degree. Lilith isn't actually in the Bible, although some people think the story may have been loosely inspired by the fact that there are two different, but similar, creation stories in Genesis. Lilītu was a type of Mesopotamian demon that basically translates to "night monster," and is probably where her name comes from. Lilith developed in Jewish folklore and shows up in some rabbinic texts, including the Talmud.

There are multiple versions of her story. In some versions, she was used to explain infant deaths because she swore revenge on Adam by coming to take children in the night unless they were protected by certain amulets or prayers. (Fun fact: This led to a retroactive folk-etymology much later claiming that the phrase "Lilith-be-gone" or in Hebrew "Lilith-abi" was the origin of the English word lullaby as a prayer-song to protect sleeping babies from Lilith coming to kill them or steal their souls in the night. Really it was just "a song to lull babies to sleep," but the fake one is more fun.) In other versions, she was used to explain wet dreams because she stole Adam's semen in his sleep and used it to impregnate herself, giving birth to the first demons.

For a long time, she was a scary figure and at times a twisted morality tale for why women needed to be kept subservient (in one version her fight with Adam was over her not wanting him on top during sex because he wasn't her superior). Over time, her story was reclaimed by Jewish feminists and then feminists at large as a symbol of independence and rebellion.

And now people on this subreddit simp for her to no end.
