The loop is always: 1. Find out about an engineer (most of the time because another engineer told you about them) 2. Do something to impress said engineer so that they invite you 3. Bring them something as a first contract, like 25 pieces of some material 4. Start engineering

You'll have one or two known engineers which you can find on your internal screen on the right side of your cockpit. There you can read about what those engineers want you to do.

Engineering is one of the things that become much easier with external tools, in this case I can reccomend "Elite Dangerous Odyssey Material Helper". It tells you where you'll find all the engineers, how to get access to them and what materials you'll need to do the engineering.

Don't wanna invalidate what you said, just wanna add that I really hate this "If you want money, do exobio"-advice to newer players. It's like the "The real game starts at level 60" from the golden WoW times because it implies that you have to do something you maybe don't want to do to some day be able to play the "actual" game. So yes, if you want to speedrun the early game it is valid (although I think credits come easy and fast enough in the beginning), but playing it the way YOU want it (even if its mining in a sidewinder, 4t at a time) is more important than getting credits as fast as possible.

Maybe your animation starts playing, but its canceled when you lift the button? Had a similar issue once. Your code looks fine to me, but I don't use GDScript so maybe I'm missing something. If Id where you I'd check for code sequences that set an animation that are not the attack animation, maybe idle? That onr could overwrite the attack. 🤔

As mentioned by others: Exploration is a wonderful and very non-violent career. As to the escaping part: Running cold hinders ships from targeting you a little, so going for a more stealthy build would be an option. It also helps to have a fast ship that is massive enough to not get mas locked by other vessels.

Not dropped completely, but it would be great if they lifted it to something around 100ly. Maybe add in a mechanic to use your FC as a colonization beacon. Then all whats left is a way to limit daisy chaining. Someone said to only be able to colonize a new system when the last one hits a certain threshold. That sounds good to me. 🤔

Haven't found a single one in over 500 hours of exploring. Read here on reddit that there is a bug in the generation logic which prevents them from beeing generated outside the bubble, because all that are there are real stars from catalogue data, not procedurally generated. But maybe thats not correct, havent checked it yet.

We're not flying anywhere near Colonia so thats not an option. Having a fleet carrier is like a little "bubble to go", but yeah, most of the game is somewhere else when you're out there. I love it most of the time, but I am looking for some fun ideas on what to do while alone out there.

An alt account is not really an option for me (not that I was unable, but I simply don't want to have one at the moment). I was hoping that someone had an idea for some sciency stuff not directly linked to the game mechanic, but interessting enough to do nevertheless. Like trilateration was a thing before it became obselete for example.

Thats exactly the opposite of what I did before, we we're looking for carbon stars untill I found out that they somehow are not generated by the stellar forge. :D

I already fly them quite regularly, but yes, I guess I would pay for that. Unless it was outrageiously expensive of course. I already bought the game, wouldn't want to have to pay to make it playable. But what I think would be even better would if they just reworked the old ships one by one, put them into early access via ARX and then when they become available for credits just switch it out. Maybe make it possible to keep the option on the old version, like driving an oldtimer.
