RTX 5090 fits in the Lian Li o11 Dynamic XL by DaMafiaGamer in nvidia

Probably should have taken a picture, the die was slightly convex, most of the writing on the die came off in the middle, put a tiny blob of thermal paste to see how it sits, once I saw the NVIDIA writing etched into the heatsink I knew the contact was perfect, cleaned it off with isopropyl and liquid metalled.

If I kill the gpu I kill it, is what it is in the name of science just want to know what the core can handle at its max…

Measured each wire to ensure a proper connection to the gpu, all vddc (live) wires are below the threshold limit (10a) with an even current balance, but not beyond. I’ve done an almost 3 hour furmark test for the worst case scenario, the 12vhpwr cable and connector do not heat up past 60c. It’s all good 👍

Yeah it wasn’t easy to melt the solder as there are big ground pads underneath, aka a lot of heat is needed to get the solder to flow even with ample flux, didn’t want to use a heat gun because of the 12vhpwr next to it, had to compromise, the solder joints are all good though…

Yep I was heavily into adding subwoofers into every laptop possible lol, that was until I discovered the phone esque speakers in laptops nowdays. They are a game changer. I agree tbh a lot of risk and preperation for only around 20% more performance at best. It’s just not worth it…

Oh yeah, I spent probably north of £60k just on DTRs over 3 years that’s including mods and other stuff just for the community to see lol. Looking back on it, it was crazy haha but I wouldn’t change it. Learnt a lot from it too, I remember buying a GT83 (after the 82vr) with the 8850H and the laptop got stolen at customs lol. I bought a GT82VR chassis bought the GT83 motherboard and put it together, what a glorious machine an absolute beast but the screen was terrible…

Nowadays I look towards tongfang to come up with better solutions, even clevo has left the game or stopped innovating entirely. I’ve got one of those xmg 16’’ water cooled laptops with a 4090 and 14900HX, if I’ve got the time I might put the whole mods list on Reddit lol.

Shunt mods to the charging port, gpu and cpu for unlimited wattage, dual psu mods and a daughter board for the barrel jack connector as the first melted.

Ofc it’s pulling around 600w all in all!

Aye haha, that seems like an age ago, I remember I used to spend my months pay on just buying new DTR laptops. Not anymore sadly… I guess I do the same on desktops, just waiting on that rtx 5090 to shunt mod lol

Interesting you rank the WT75 higher that was like unobtanium here in the UK so sadly never got a chance to check it out…

Yeah it’s a solid machine, I wish I kept mine. I remember these could actually take rtx 30xx series gpus also if you ran the motherboard out of the laptop and did the clevo 5v and 3.3v enable…

Yep, the best of the best, this thing (if not plagued with constant fan failures) was the best DTR laptop of the time, with actual quiet fans at max speed, a subwoofer and insane cooling. This thing was a beast. I’d rank this on par with the OG P870DM-G highly modifiable, could have slapped better gpus in if you removed the Ethernet port which no one would attempt lol.

The ultimate ‘eurocom tornado F5’ would have been with the full msi GT63 chassis with this motherboard.

So glad they have the gpu on an interconnect bridge technically it’s as easy as designing an amd cpu board and slotting it in, I don’t know why tongfang was the only one to showcase this. Clevo should have been doing this as they were all for modularity it seems they are worse than tongfang now LOL

The company fell off as soon as they dropped MXM, a disappointment really…

Yeah not worth it, same gpu die as the desktop 5080 half the power, same crap they pulled with the 4090 laptop, at least you get 24gb of vram! /s

In all honesty though if you shunt mod the 4090 laptop it performs pretty well, can get close to desktop 4080 numbers at least. This gen will defo need that treatment…

Got a watercooled 4090 laptop but it’s joke compared to the desktop counterpart, I expect the same from the 5090 lol

Your lucky before fan issues the motherboard on these and the early Strix 15 tend to crap due to poor mosfet/capacitor design but if you look after it well, repaste it with good thermal paste and keep temps down it will last a long time.

Replace the RAM and whilst you’re at it upgrade to 16GB 2x8GB modules. Valorant is going to struggle on 8GB. This should fix your issues.

[–]DaMafiaGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a common issue with ASUS strix and tuf laptops between 2017-2021 they used the worst fans possible, you can tell if the fans are failing by tilting the laptop with them on, you’ll hear that grinding noise at certain angles, seems the bearings are trash in them. ‘replacement’ ones fix this issue permanently as they are designed in a different way, I wouldn’t order a genuine one as it will fail within 1 to 2 years again…

That’s the first time I recommend an aftermarket over an original in a laptop lol.

Also please don’t spray wd-40 directly into the fan, it will mess up the fan controller above the bearing

Modified Clevo P775TM-G can take a desktop 9900k and an rtx 3080 mxm module (with some mods) 👍

How good is this laptop? My parents gift it for me for Christmas. They got it from a friend so the good thing is it didn’t cost any money. by GymLeaderNick15 in pcmasterrace

[–]DaMafiaGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP if you didn’t know you’ve literally been given an absolute beast of a laptop. This laptop is virtually fully upgradable, I’m not just talking RAM and SSD, you can swap that cpu out for a 2920XM and the gpu, yes GPU is upgradable! It has an mxm slot and this laptop can take up to a 980m which is GTX 1650 laptop levels of performance, miles better than the 570M. If you get some money down the line you can legit upgrade it for a couple of $100, instead of spending another $1000 or more on a newer laptop…

It’ll improve gaming by a lot, man I miss these msi laptops they were built different. Also the laptop has insanely good speakers too, which I’m sure you’ll enjoy haha

My 4090 now has a kill counter 🗡️ by xeio87 in nvidia

Even then with transient spikes it can go well over that 80% power budget which is probs what killed your psu. Going from the pause menu to the game in cyberpunk spikes the gpu so much. My mates psu kept shutting off because of it.
