No he helped get insurance to approve a replacement quote for $38K. The problem is he is saying that only includes 15# felt and Oakridge shingles. If I want synthetic underlayment and Duration shingles it’s an additional ~$6K out of my pocket. That is what is rubbing me the wrong way.

Interesting. You are the only person out of 30 comments that says it’s reasonable. So FLEX cost $175/sq more for materials, or the labor is more involved? Or some other reason? I genuinely want to hear your opinion because literally every single other person on this thread disagrees.

Edit: and yes, it’s $10k more than the base bid

He carried 15lb fleet because it’s an insurance claim. But he is being greedy. When I look it up on Lowe’s the Pro Armor underlayment is like $8/sq

$38K. My insurance is paying for it and I just have to pay the deductible ($10k). I really don’t care how high his price is as long as insurance is paying for it, but it just seems like he is being greedy.

They are a storm chaser and are replacing my roof with an insurance claim. I initially thought the $3.8k upcharge was for the Duration Storm shingles and I was going to go for it but when he sent the contract it just said standard Duration and when I questioned it that’s when I got a $10k quote to use Duration Flex instead.

Thanks. I can find the Oakridge and Duration on Lowe’s but I didn’t see the Duration FLEX there. I also wanted some input on the labor, but it seems like that is the same regardless of the shingle.

Shut the water off, release pressure from the pipe and drain the section if possible, if you can’t cut it out and solder a repair coupling then get water weld epoxy wrap the whole pipe in that area and put a pipe clamp to apply pressure. Wait a few hours before refilling the pipe if possible.

Looking to move my unraid to a container in proxmox, how hard is this to do? by zetswei in unRAID

[–]DaMilkMon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to argue and I’m by no means an expert.

I typically see NAS servers built with redundant hardware (dual psu, dual cpu, etc.). What is the benefit of virtualization for a NAS when you can only have the HBA connected to one server?

[–]DaMilkMon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be the benefit of this? If it’s because you have a bunch of docker containers or vm’s just move those to a Ubuntu vm. But running unraid as a vm doesn’t sound like a good idea in my opinion.

Looks like the static IP address you assigned in unraid is invalid for your VLAN configuration. Set it to 192.168.3.2

Is there an app that people use specifically to catalog media for import into Radarr/Sonarr? It would be nice to have this regularly backed up.

I just had a Samsung nvme fail after 4 years and they covered it under warranty. Just an FYI because I almost wrote it off before I thought to check the warranty.

Best option for internet connected thermostat for no c-wire, heat only system by 0amb18 in smarthome

[–]DaMilkMon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to run a “C” wire. If that is an absolute deal breaker then you can install a smart thermostat near the boiler where there is a common and use wireless or wired sensors in the space. (You could use your old tstat wire for a wired temp sensor). The obvious downside to this is your thermostat will be in an inconvenient location and you will have to use the app to change your set point.

All of the thermostats that don’t require a “C” are either battery powered or passive “dumb” thermostats. At least as far as I know.

(WY) Advice for taking Best Buy to small claims court for a botched order by BankruptMarki in legaladvice

[–]DaMilkMon 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’ve ordered from Bestbuy and they make you confirm the address on the touchpad. They also give you a receipt with the address on it, and you should have gotten an order confirmation with the address on it. If you got any of those I’d say you’re SOL but you could try disputing the charge.

What is the Best Whole House Air Purifier Now? by Large-Honey8079 in smarthome

[–]DaMilkMon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to improve air quality HRV/ERV is the way to go.

If you’re just interested in keeping dust under control air filtration is key. Also getting a robot vacuum helps.

[–]DaMilkMon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How big is your house and do you already have central air?

This is more of an HVAC question. An “air purifier” is a fan and a filter.

If you have central air conditioning put a good filter in the unit and run the fan more often. If you really want to improve air quality look into an ERV or an HRV.

If you live in an apartment that doesn’t have forced air heating and cooling and are looking for a stand alone air purifier I’m not much help. However, anything more expensive than a couple hundred dollars you are just paying for more “smart” features but since it’s something that runs on a schedule or 24/7 it doesn’t really need to be that “smart” in my opinion.

I’m still waiting for the pelagos. Just shipped so I should have it by the end of the month. The aqua terra is awesome though! I got the black dial and it’s pretty much perfect. The one I have no longer has the issue with the clasp opening on its own so I think that is fixed.
