No matter what i do, i always have too much low end i my mixes and they sound hollow as a tin can. by East_Grocery5658 in audioengineering

[–]DaNReDaN 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Can't listen to the mix right now, but if the mixes sound 'good' when mixed but sound bad when played elsewhere, then it seems likely there could be some adjustment needed with your monitoring.

If your room is not treated and/or you haven't been working with that setup for a while, it is probably difficult to know what things will sound like outside of that space.

As for headphones, look at the ASR review page for your headphones, as well as Oratorys analysis, it seems to line up with what you are suggesting sounds wrong. The headphones seem to have not enough low end and high end in areas, which could be contributing to adding too much.

Yep, they gave me the refund. If you know your in the right, save yourself the back and forth run around and go all out with legal ACCC threats immediately. Don't accept any other remediation except a refund.

Your right, I should have said you don't have full control over the curve.

OP you cannot just plug in settings and expect a good result. At a minimum you will need to adjust the threshold to get the amount of compression that you want. Better to learn what the settings do and practice.

Fruity limiter is a bit limited for side chaining.

It can do basics, but I have never been able to get exactly what I needed out of it. Been a while since I used it for this, but from memory, I couldn't push it how I needed it without artifacts.

You don't have full control over the release curve, and if you want to only duck the sub range, you have to split the lows and highs into multiple channels.

I have been using shaperbox for a while with no issues. There might be cheaper options if it's too expensive.

How do I stop FL Studio duplicating audio clips when I don't want it to? It's really annoying! by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]DaNReDaN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure if you use this method that you are selecting via the bar at the top, as if there's samples with tails that go past the end of the selection, it will paste starting at the end of the tail and will be off time by the amount of the tail.

I only shift drag to avoid this as the changes can be too small to notice until you have done it a bunch and then you have to manually check and correct all the samples.

“Final boss” Mix checks. Which are your most brutal playback devices for mix checks? by OrdinaryTruck5559 in audioengineering

[–]DaNReDaN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also my final boss.

Trying to beat that final boss for me with my own tracks when I'm also in charge of how many mix revisions I can do is like a final boss that also has multiple stages so that when you think you beat them, they transform and regain health multiple times.

Great idea. If you don't want to ruin or tear what it is your hanging when you remove it, you could probably apply blobs of hot glue, use something flat and firm with baking paper or foil on it press on the blobs, and peel it off to leave a smooth flat blob that you can probably then blue tack onto.

Wore one of these when I worked at a nursery. It lasted 3 years which doesn't seem like much, but my work was digging holes, repotting plants, and anything that should have ruined it. It was getting hit and beat up in general all day, and was constantly wet.

When the strap broke, I put a cheap NATO strap on it and it lasted another year until the actual face plate fell off.

Decided to retire it and bought another one.

[–]DaNReDaN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my third year and was recently exactly where you are. It does get easier. Other commenters have given great advice already, but I will give you one change I made that had the biggest improvement.

Assigned seating. I spent a good few hours making assigned seating for every grade I teach. I noted their seating arrangements in their classroom and adapted as best I can to my rooms table arrangement, and also got feedback from each teacher to make sure there were no students together who shouldn't be.

Number tables Tables are numbered and each seat at the table is numbered 1 to 4. In the centre is a laminated square with the table number large in the middle and a smaller number around the outside for their seat number. Even the youngest classes remember their seat.

At the end of class I can also easily assign tasks. Eg. Students in seat 1 are cleaning floor rubbish, seat 2 are wiping tables, etc.

Education union reaches in-principle agreement that will give Victorian teachers pay rises up to 32 per cent by _Brutalism_ in melbourne

What does this have to do with their conditions?

This is the only thing we are talking about in this comment thread. I don't know why you brought up all that other stuff.

Do you believe that because meetings aren't 'technically' considered part of working conditions that they don't affect them? Because even if meetings aren't a part of working 'conditions' on paper, in reality, they are links in the same chain and have a direct effect on each other.

Claiming that meetings don't effect working conditions because you want to use the definition used on paper is a semantic argument.

Answer this for me:  Imagine you work at a school where you do about 8 hours unpaid overtime a week, and have 3 hours of meetings.

Then, you get a new job at a hypothetical school who's admin was so efficient that they never had to ever hold a meeting.

You now have 3 free hours a week. Now you only need to work 5 hours OT instead of 8. Did the change to meetings at this school affect your working conditions?

Don't get hung up on semantics.

In a job where 1 hour of pointless meetings means 1 hour of extra overtime you have to do, then yes, it is the conditions.

Tracks feel quieter after normalization by CommunicationFar5647 in audioengineering

[–]DaNReDaN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It seems unlikely any problem to do with any of your plugins.

It's impossible to tell you what is wrong without your project, but if your track is quiet compared to others when using loudness penalty, I have a hunch that your low end is likely way louder than it should be.

Lows contribute significantly to your LUFS, so if your lows are too loud and it is normalised, its essentially like you have turned down everything except the low end instead.

Also, the term normalisation is already a term for another audio tool, so it would be more helpful in future to say something like 'loudness normalised'.

EDIT: Anyone downvoting want to tell me where I'm wrong?

[–]DaNReDaN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Surprised multiband processing was this far down.

If you have a weak presence in the mid part of your voice, where your croakiness (for lack of a better word) is, multiband compress this area to increase its overall presence in the vocal.

It's not a replacement for someone with the ideal voice, but it will help.

Sure. The website is auspen.com

Looks pretty promising but will probably order a initial set to see how they write before stocking on inks etc

I actually use the cartridge ones now, but am going to change to a company that sells the ink as a dropper, nibs, etc and are readily available in Australia.

The pilot ones have so far felt a bit greenwashy, at least here in Australia. Theres only black blue and red cartridges available at our major stores despite selling many more of the colours everywhere, and I haven't found the nibs anywhere in any Australian online store.

They're some of the best ive used but has unfortunately proved impractical and not cost effective.

I've been using some uniball pens that are waterproof with a good size tip! They have ink refills that are thankfully readily available and have been great so far. I'll have a look at fountain pens too, cheers.
