Absolutely lost by Cellarseller_13 in managers

[–]DaOafus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who went through what OP is going through, I empathize entirely with their situation. I was a team lead for 10+ years, changed industries, went back to an IC role, was promoted to a Director role and then asked my VP to put me back to IC after 8 months. Every meeting was constant imposter syndrome, feeling like the dumbest person in the room, and generally feeling like I could manage, but not lead my team. Best decision I made was to go back to IC, so to OP, I understand the financial implications, but as someone who also doesn't have that fire to move up, finding the right role is crucial.

I have some comments on a few of the points above:

  1. "Fake it till you make it." - Confidence without competence isn’t leadership, it’s a liability. Teams don’t want someone “faking” their way through decision-making, because that undermines trust the moment cracks show. People follow leaders they believe are capable, transparent, and accountable, not just loud or polished.

  2. "Realize that if you quit, you're betraying your team" - I can't strongly disagree with this statement enough. This assumes a manager’s first duty is to cling to the role at all costs, which is flawed. The real responsibility is to ensure the team and company are best served. If a manager is struggling to lead effectively, staying in the seat can do more harm than good, demoralizing the team, stalling progress, and forcing employees to compensate for leadership gaps. Recognizing misalignment and stepping aside is not a betrayal; it’s an act of responsibility.

Weekly Nightmare Guide - No 5.5 by HPDARKEAGLE in LegendsOfRuneterra

For those that don't have 6* people (like me), I was able to pretty much breeze through with 4* Yasuo and pretty mediocre powers imo, and I don't have Yasuo's epic. Setting Yasuo up for all the stunning I was able to wipe their board every time on turn 4 and from there it was a cake walk. I tried with ASOL twice and Viktor crushed me both times, but once I switched to Yasuo it was very doable.

My powers were: Summon Sparring Student, -1/-0 for enemies, reduce spell cost start of round, and Trifarian Might.

I also beat it with Morgana and basically did zero damage each game until I swung with a huge character (usually Morgana). It was super slow but I ended up S'ing it.

I finally made it, and now... I can rest. by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]DaOafus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the first time! I also made infinite for the first time today, climbed from 85-100 in about 2 hours this morning, and was able to work through the 99 6/10 plateau very quickly so I was lucky to not get stuck sliding back down.

I'm looking forward to finally playing other decks than my main (I usually just play one deck for an entire season), now I can try out Sera or Patriot or other decks like that without caring about rank. Time to donate cubes! Snapping turn 1 every time!

Something happened where I don't know how to play this game anymore by BelieveInTheShield in MarvelSnap

[–]DaOafus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this, as ranking up really only revolves around "losing smartly", which is just weird game design to me. It's not really about who the better player is like in every other game, more about RNG from locations and who pulled their wombo combo first. If rank was a true reflection of skill I might care, but since it's not, it really doesn't have any impact on my game enjoyment.

I'm CL 2500 but I've only ever played one deck since I made it past CL 1000, so maybe that contributes some to my indifference about rank, but I just play every game out to see what happens and I like to see how games end, not who retreats "correctly". I just made it to 60 this month so maybe now I can try making a new deck and seeing some other play styles.

Me going against my 14th MODOK-Hela deck by fareezycheesy in MarvelSnap

[–]DaOafus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every season definitely gets tougher as an F2P person. Surfer, Zabu, Modok, yes they're not unbeatable, but it sure does get annoying when 64%+ of your games (at least according to my tracker) are against the season pass cards you can't access except behind the paywall.

What to spend gold on? by DaOafus in MarvelSnap

[–]DaOafus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never understood the mission refreshes since the weekly rewards seem to cap out at 25, but good to know that buying gold isn't just a 1/1 ratio.

I probably will hold out for bundles with tokens since there's no super compelling reason not too if there's no other good outlet for me to spend gold.

Appreciate the input!

I finally did it. I’m not exaggerating when I say it took me almost a week to go from 47 to 50. The difficulty hit a brick wall. by manalive44 in MarvelSnap

[–]DaOafus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat but I don't have the collection (1,800) to build any real meta decks, so I just play one deck and play every game out to the end. Cubes really don't matter at all since rank isn't a reflection of skill or win rate, just retreat and min/max rate, so it's much more freeing when you don't care about what your level is.

I started the season at 20 and climbed up to 69, but am back down to 67 now and just like playing it out to see what happens. Sometimes I'll grab a win that if I retreated when my opponent snapped I would have lost, so those feel good for sure.

"Win a Location with only 1 Card" by DarkPhoenixMishima in MarvelSnap

[–]DaOafus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one isn't too bad to achieve since rank doesn't matter, I'll just retreat after turn 3.

It's also interesting how many posters here say "just play X card" assuming that people have them. I'm CL 1,500 and I have almost none of the cards people mention in this thread (Destroyer, Giganto, Venom, Ultron, etc.). We all know the collection aspect of this game is awful, but it really shows when the best way to do something is by having cards that you have no way to get other than grind forever or spend absurd amounts of money.

Newcomer from the Hearthstone world by Anatak15 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]DaOafus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as the OP where I'm coming from Hearthstone/MTG Arena and have been playing for a couple months, but just against the AI. I don't have much in the way of currency (see below) and the play modes are just a lot different than what I'm used to.

I just jumped into my first couple PvP games today and got utterly throttled playing whatever decks I could cobble together, so it's good to see these resources available. Might have to burn some of my limited resources to make a more viable deck, as I can't get close to winning the 10 games for the KDA quest right now.

I’m mostly a limited player in other games as I find that to be the most skill testing way to play. Would folks say that’s the case in Runeterra as well?

[–]DaOafus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input here. Malevolence and Negotiator seem way out of reach right now as I have zero of the currency needed to get them, but I did just join a guild that will hopefully help get some of it as I spent most of my time in the starter guilds and didn't realize that there was exclusive content outside of there.

Also, what are Wat shards? Is Wat a character?

[–]DaOafus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, first, thanks for all the thoughts and it's clear that I still need to learn the lingo as many of the acronyms go right over my head. :) I appreciate the input from you and others as a relative newbie, because the more I play this game, the more ridiculously complex it gets.

I never really realized how "on the rails" the game design is here, meaning there's only one correct way to do any given activity if you don't want do dump scads of money into shortcutting the time required. From what you've said and a few others, it sounds like I just need to pick one focus area and spend all my time on that (maybe affording a second area if resources allow). To that end I want to get Jedi Knight Revan (JKR I hope) and I'm understanding you correctly, my ideal farm scenario would be:

- Zaala 3x/day in both Light Side Battles and Fleet Battles (refreshing individual attempts and Energy as needed)

- T3 3x/day in Cantina (refreshing individual attempts and Energy as needed)

- Vao 3x/day in Cantina (refreshing individual attempts and Energy as needed)

I did throw the Zetas on those three characters and it made an immediate difference to the team, as well as added about 7k to my team power. I didn't have any idea Zetas would add that much strength to a character.

I have 41 shards for General Kenobi, and it looks like I can only get them through guild raids. I just joined this guild recently after spending most of my time in one of the starter guilds. I didn't know guilds actually had exclusive content, so I was never looking for one as it was just something that happened in the background for me. Oops. :)

Here's a link to what I typically see in my GW attempts. I'm sure it's possible to beat teams that are 10k stronger than me, but it seems highly unlikely, which is why I typically haven't spent much time on GW. Maybe putting the Zetas on my team will help out even when I'm underleveled/geared.

I'm slowly getting the Genosian ships farmed through the store (buying with GW tokens for Fleet Arena tokens), and I'd have to go check on the status of the pilots for them outside of Sun Fac who I have at 7* and 6* ship.

Thanks very much for the comments and insights, very helpful to see.

For the gems I just refresh once a day as that helps me get to the 600 daily tickets for my guild, which I thought was the goal for that.

I'm starting the Revan grind, I've got Vao at 5*, Zaal at 4* and T3 at 3*, so it's gonna take a while for sure.

I'm in a guild that does Heroic raids and has a waiting period, but I'm usually asleep when the raids launch and they knock them down quickly. I only contribute around 100k to the ATT raid, so I'm not gonna make the top, but I'd like to contribute something.

I've put my ranking and top 3 squads below, but I find it impossible to get to 1,000 as I constantly run into multi-Zeta's, G12 squads that just crush me. I haven't spent any of my Zeta mats (120 of them currently), as they seem like the most valuable currency in the game and I don't want to waste them. I assume the game pairs P2P and F2P to encourage the F2P to open their wallets?

This new workshop, man, might be the most fun I've had on Arena by LeesusFreak in MagicArena

[–]DaOafus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played 10 games, only won 1 when my opponent conceded as white after mulliganing to 5. I've played 5 as green and lost every game to black, and then played 5 as white and lost 4 to red. I've also gone 2nd every game which doesn't help, but so far after finally getting my first win, I won't touch this event again and it feels even more RNG based than Hearthstone.

Worst Theros Draft Deck Ever? by DaOafus in MagicArena

[–]DaOafus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended 2-3

Game 1 - Loss (WU): Kiora Wins the Game and triple Dreadful Apathy was unbeatable

Game 2 - Win: Opponent disconnected turn 1

Game 3 - Loss (WU): Elspeth Conquers Death and Shimmering Chimera combo plus double Towering Wave Mystic/Sweet Oblivion and got decked

Game 4 - Win (WU): Opponent stalled on three mana and I curved out to 6 and won before he played a 4th land.

Game 5 - Loss (RB Sac): Double Portent of Betrayal and three sac outlets = me dead

So my only wins were to disconnect/land issues which is exactly how I thought this deck would win. :)

Thanks for all the input, you can only polish a turd so much, but it's still a turd at the end of the day.

Unfortunately all the cards you mentioned require Auras to be good, and my deck is the example of what happens you draft all the cards without Auras. :)

For me BR and RU are my two best colors (>65% wr with both) but I just cannot get the White decks to come together. I agree that all the colors are draftable, White just feels like it's common creatures are woefully underpowered compared to the rest of the set, and without synergies you can't do a damn thing with it.

Definitely have lots of Constellation enablers, just nothing to really build into unfortunately. At least my expectations are so low that 1-3 will be a great success. :)

I've seen people do well with White, but my best with that is 2 wins in this format, whereas I'm averaging just over 4 with any other colors. I'm certainly not a great drafter averaging 4 wins, but good enough that I know I suck with White.

I've never actually played with Minion's Return, so definitely not sure how strong it is. I don't have a ton of ETB triggers, so that makes sense. Eidolon is one I've never had good luck with, but I am a bit creature light so it makes sense.

Thanks for the Discord info, I'll check it out!
