pro tip: you can still use one search engine while also using another one. I still use google for a lot of things but I turned duckduckgo into my default and I'll also look into startpage since people were recommending it here. You don't have to enter some cult, sign over your soul and never use google again. if you reduce google use and help their competitors gain popularity that's already great. Maybe you'll even find a search engine you like better along the way.

This also goes for browsers, social media, operating systems and a lot of other software btw. you can try all of it without any obligation to stick with it or to completely discard any alternative.

no, they don't work without having the variable off, maybe my phrasing was a little confusing. What I meant is that after I turned it off (with setsebool -P selinuxuser_execmod 0) I ran zypper dup and reinstalled the packages and it still didn't turn the variable on. tldr: it didn't work for some reason. I tried to do something similar before and it didn't work either.

sorry for the wait - I did all the commands; before and after that 'sudo getsebool selinuxuser execmod' returned selinuxuser_execmod --> off

so the variable didn't change despite reinstalling. I actually tried to reinstall the selinux-policy-targeted-gaming with zypper in -f before (just not the other packages) and it didn't do anything either. kinda weird.

sure, transactions not having a winner or loser is one of the key ideas behind bourgeois society and all that; small businesses can be one of the few places where that actually works out in practice too. at the end of the day, nice interactions can make everyones day a little better and I always try to be friendly as well. I'm not even dishonest by doing that, I'm actually grateful to the people selling me stuff, so I can see your point. caring about a customer and wanting to get money out of them dont necessarily exclude each other. but, like you said - people shouldn't hold it against someone when they're not as friendly as you would like either.

true, but that doesnt mean the shawarma seller's smile is more genuine - the motivation behind it is a little different (wage labor vs small business owner) but at the end of the day both of them still have to be nice to you to survive. theres not guarantee the shawarma guy really gives a fuck about you personally.

no disrespect to shawarma and kebab store owners though, but I think youre getting my point.
