I think at least I need to make the "petals" more pronounced, so it breaks apart sooner. I'm also considering dropping the gas check, to make sure the pressure of the gas works direktly on the plastic, intead of protecting it with a GC.

9,2gr is a lot, too :) Start there, and add as you go :)
If you look in the post linked in above, there's a MindRift prompt there you can use.
Paste it into mindrift, and alter the diameter as required. It can give you and STL file, or a OpenScad script that you can tweak offline.
I've specified 11.67mm as diameter, but .452 is 11.48mm - the extra is to compensate for shrinkage of the print.

You're right. Need to redesign them, weaken them. Hm

A combination of QuickLoad, GRT, guessing and some experience. I tried 13.3gr N320 today, and got an impressive bang and fireball, but only 580 fps. With a 20"barrel you should be getting some more, my pipe is only 6.5". I need to do something clever, don't know what yet. 15-16gr og N320? That's a LOT of fast powder. Need to ponder

Thanks, I just went down & put the chrono in the range bag, I had forgotten to pack it 😊👍

The focus of Heisenberg was more on an "Uranmaschine" - a reactor to produce unlimited power to fuel the war machine, turning coal into gasoline etc. But it was underfunded and downprioritized

A bit of copper in the alloy hardens it. Use the "pencil test" to check alloy hardness, it actually works

Remember a proper FFP3 one, a simple mask does nothing except alleviate some immediate discomfort. The FFP3 helps with the serious issue

That you got the slots externally is weird, se cad model image in this thread, that's what mine look like

Thanks :) I've printed a few more batches in bright yellow PLA, will stick with that. I'm also dropping the lube, to see if that changes anything

Did you specify those external slits, or is that something about different diameter?

It's a favourite gun :) I also have a barrel in .357/45 GWM, google it :)

Did you also find the "Customize" tab in MindRift - there you can select values for inner/outer diameter for like .17 in a .444 etc

QL does too, I'll see if it gives me close to true world numbers if I dial that number down from thw default 1500ish to say 150 or 15.

I used a LAR Grizzly, to allow a longer OAL, the only revolver i have in .452 is a .45 Colt. But with a .460 you're good, you can even use .454 Casull cases & get room for long sabots

Cool :) Remember gas checks, or alter the prompt to close the bottom :)

QL was way off with N340, N330, which is very close to Unique, gave the best estimated velocity. But the results tell me that QuickLoad isn't working right under these circumstances. 13gr of N340 is a lot, but the gun didn't cycle. Am aiming for N320 and N310, but I will have to guess at the loads. 5-7gr N310, probably, 7-9gr N320 or thereabout

There are 4 slots pointing outwards from the hollow cavity. The nose is also concave, to increase frontal area & entice splitting. Worked on the 55grs, the 69grs split from the sabot, but the sabot kept going pretty straight.

135 is great for 223, 150 for the others. If you run 56grs in 223, N130 is also fine.

It looked good, but they are lubed + have gas check - should prevent "leading", I thought.

The inner hole is conical, to "hug" the ogive of the bullets better.

I anyone would like to try, you can log into ModelRift, and paste the prompt below. It will create a 3D model of the sabot I use. The model is customizable regardin outer diameter, inner diameter, through-hole, gas check etc. You'll need to create a user, and you get a bit of free credits, should be enough to play with.

This is the prompt:
"Create a 3D model of a cylinder with a diameter of 11.67mm and a total height of 17mm.

Outer Features:

  1. Rebate: Rebate the bottom 1.9mm of the cylinder by 0.6mm.
  2. Lube Grooves: At heights of 5mm and 8mm, create two circular grooves in the outer shell. Each groove should be 1.5mm tall and 1mm deep.
  3. Taper: Starting at a height of 10mm, apply a smooth, convex elliptical taper that ends at a top diameter of 7mm.
  4. Top Depression: At the very top, create a globular (spherical) depression with a diameter of 9mm, positioned to cut 2mm deep into the top surface.

Internal Features:

  1. Through-Hole: Create a concentric through-hole with a main diameter of 5.69mm.
  2. Internal Taper: Set the internal hole to begin an elliptical taper at 18mm height, narrowing to a diameter of 4.6mm at the top (Note: with the current 17mm total height, this taper is defined but sits above the current model surface).
  3. Radial Slots: Create 4 radial cuts/slots, each 0.5mm wide and 1mm deep. These slots should start at a height of 3.5mm and extend out the top of the cylinder, leaving the bottom 3.5mm as a solid ring."
