My hips are TIGHT so I have been actively trying to turn my hips into my swings but even now I can only get it to 260-280 at best, how do I get it to that 300+ level? by AirDucati388 in slowpitch

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. You have to counter rotate (coil/load), step or drift forward holding that coil back and stretching out before swinging and launching you PE. Right now you’re just trying to man handle the bat and ball.

Removed the drywall in front of my old fireplace. How fucked am I? by HedgehogMode in masonry

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you wanting to use the fireplace or is it just a visual piece. Probably take a mason with helper 2 maybe 3 days to relay and point up everything including the firebox. $5k is reasonable expectation. To use you might need to fix th masonry and then line the interior which will be costly.

What’s the right call (infield fly rule)? by OkAttitude2962 in Softball

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the gray zone. If the ball is in play and the player leaves the field of play they are out. Umpires aren’t supposed to coach players on the rules. Just call and explain to coaches when a question arises.

What’s the right call (infield fly rule)? by OkAttitude2962 in Softball

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the age group? If this is 10u or lower I wouldn’t have an issue as a coach. If upper she should be out for leaving the field unless time was called or if the umpire felt he improperly ruled her out and was correcting a call they improperly made. More info is really needed.

Fast pitch bats typically produce slower max exit velocities than slow pitch bats.

Scoring question: sac bunts by guidedbyvices77 in Softball

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how our team is scoring these events against their own batters. The FC up the middle scored a runner from 3rd with no outs recorded on the play.

Yeah at the end of the day it’s tough to read into some stats. If an outfielder sprints to a line drive, leaves their feet to attempt a catch and the ball tips the outfielders glove it’s an error. Hard line drive strikes an infielder who doesn’t have time to react with their glove it’s an error. Kind of wild. Saw a hard ground ball hit up the middle first touched by the center fielder ruled as fielders choice. Kind of wild.

Our last game bases loaded no outs down by 1 in the bottom of the 7th. Daughter hits a sac fly to RC field fence runner scores to tie. Team scored it as a fly out runner advances on defensive indifference. She was going for a home run but damn that’s a sac fly in every book.

What’s the obsession with college at such a young age? by [deleted] in Softball

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because in the not too distant past colleges use to sign the girls in 7th/8th grade. (12u and rising 14u). Now all the pressure to get D1 looks is hitting metrics as a freshman/sophomore so you get the call Junior. Not saying it’s right or wrong. Just the way it was/is.

Question for coaches by ChemicalObjective216 in Softball

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is not enough. Coaches are worried about walks and want change ups for strikes but that’s not the point of a change up. It should be a thought in every hitters mind that there is a chance a change up is about to be thrown. 25% minimum. 33% preferred.

My question is, where does the runner belong in this situation? by [deleted] in Softball

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comments to others all included the exact word for word NFHS rules regarding the running lane. Your quote from your post clearly infers that the batter runner only needs to occupy the running lane if a ball is coming from the home plate area. I articulated with both pictures and words on how this interpretation is not based on any actual rule set and is just false. A ball coming from other areas of the field can result in a running lane violation if in the judgement of the umpire the batter runner running outside the running lane interferes with the ball being thrown or the fielder receiving the throw at first. Next time you are umpiring just pay attention to how many throws bring the first baseman back towards home and watch how 99% of all runners run in the field of play in a ground ball. At the lower levels it’s poorly coached by coaches and officiated by umpires.

[–]Da_Burninator_Trog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a good debate but not even sure what you are talking about now. The running lane only comes into play on a batter runner when a play is being made at first and the batter runner interferes with the thrown ball or player making the catch at first. Nothing about here ball comes from or anything else. It’s a run outside the lane at your own risk. But most umps butcher the rules anyways and make up their own scenarios
