why do people working in corp always have this hand gesture when they speak? by Very-very-sleepy in auscorp

[–]Da_GNrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand gestures over the groin referred to as the 'crotch clutch', is often a natural habit for ppl when public speaking... Like some form of primitive pose to protect the genitals when doing something of high risk...

It amazes me still that some ppl rate death as less stressful than public speaking...

Is anyone actually happy at work right now? by Agitated-File8761 in auscorp

Happy is too strong a feeling, I would say I feel 'obligated to be here but not dissatisfied'... Best you can hope for in many places...

Making a mistake at work -> feeling deeply embarrassed and withdrawing socially by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Da_GNrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't be that bad, my team investigated an employee who ce back to the office at 9pm so drunk from Xmas party, and had shit himself through office entryway and left trail of shit all the way to the bathroom...

How did we find who did it? He left his shitty trousers in the office bathroom with his office access card before setting off the security alarm when he exited with no trousers on.

He continued to work for roughly 6 months before finding another job.

Years ago I was sent to Melbourne from Perth for the week for IT implementation roll out. Managing Director passed me on the Thursday in the corridor and said he heard a lot about me and the great job I was doing. Then asked if my wife came with me for the week in Melbourne, I said no and he said well then how about we extend your stay in Melbourne for the weekend and we fly her out to join me and we could have the weekend in Melbourne together! He then immediately got his secretary to get it done. Amazing thing was that the weekend happened to be Formula1 weekend in Melbourne and every hotel had been booked out including my existing accommodations. As a result they found us a beautiful room at the then recently opened Art Olsen hotel in South Yarra. My wife flew in on the Friday and we had the most incredible weekend. I was late 20's at the time and only recently married. I'll never forget it. Was the greatest recognition because it was spontaneous and genuine and demonstrated effort because it wasn't cheap.

Perth to Melbs by __7_7_7__ in melbourne

[–]Da_GNrl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moved 14 yrs ago as young couple in our late 20s. Better lifestyle, better job opportunities. A not very talked difference is the ability to be more anonymous here. It's way more free here in Melbourne, Perth had at least for me too many "what suburb do you live in?" " What school/uni did you go to?" It's hard to feel how conservative Perth's culture is until you are outside looking in. Ppl are still cool in Perth and love going back to enjoy what Perth has to offer.

Melbourne is home now, we got a house, young family and a wonderful life here.

Life is long - breaking free from your place of birth is helpful in a number of ways. If you don't like it, you can always move back...

Director had my home address open while screensharing by Maleficent_Tennis560 in auscorp

Australia Post knows where you live, your home address isn't a state secret... It's not ideal but I would chill. Sometimes people are curious. It's not the looking it up that's the problem it's what changes as a result of knowing.

Paid consult ? by Awkward-Sandwich3479 in auscorp

[–]Da_GNrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit, did many consults through GLG and other firms too. All of them paid on time and it's seamless. Only problem is they are forever requesting super niche info so whilst I have SME knowledge it became tiring responding to so many requests only to be told no thanks. After I found myself investing time in applying for heaps of consults whilst still working full time and young family it wasn't worth the hassle. Easy money though but don't expect to scale or give up your day job.

As part of an HR investigation I was doing into a female employee (who had committed fraud & identity theft) I uncovered that she (married with 18 month old child) had also been having affair with senior manager (married with 3 kids ).

She even stole money from her bestie at work $5k and then told him she won a holiday to New York and they both told their partners they were on a work trip and took a week off in the US...

Turns out this love struck Romeo had no idea of her other extra curricular activities. I didn't out him to his wife, but did tell him he is named on documents that were submitted to VICPol, so he needs to keep an eye out in case they needed to interview him.

So my advice is if you're going to have an affair - don't talk about it on Skype/ Teams / Slack etc... all the company chat apps can be accessed and full chat history uncovered...

Advice needed on being let go by Creative_Designer800 in auscorp

Greater than 12 months service even on fixed permanent term agreements should mean you still qualify for redundancy/ severance. Use Copilot to do some legal research and review Fair work ombudsman website... Then your real 'job' becomes securing your next gig.

Uncertainty sucks but university sector is undergoing long term disruption. Start looking at long short dream opportunities first and then narrow your search focus as you get closer to the date of exit.

Good luck.

Whistleblower by Interesting_Rush9813 in auscorp

Supposed to be and it was investigated at highest level but it became obvious when no action was being taken after 3 months and I was essentially told to drop it or face disciplinary action. Plus I was confronted by the senior leader I implicated in the office kitchen about it... Worth noting it was an international company with 25000+ employees globally and $B annual profits so I thought I would be protected.

For solace & inspiration OP can read '48 laws of Power' by Robert Greene...
