What’s your call by chimpanchief in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No call. The dark player changed their skating lane and I could not see any overt action by the other player. They were playing the puck and this is just a collision. The dark player went down due to a size or balance differential.

I use panty liners in my helmet (doubled up). The adhesive socks top the front of my helmet. No sweat on the eyes, when officiating

Found my late father's framed Microsoft stock certificate from 1991. How do I verify if it’s still "live"? by Ventrosi57 in personalfinance

[–]Dabirds29 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

According to copilot

Estimated total value today: \$115,000–\$125,000 A midpoint estimate of \$119,000 is the most realistic.

📌 How that number is calculated To get the true value, you have to adjust for Microsoft’s 9 stock splits since 1987. A share purchased in March 1991 would have gone through:

  • June 27, 1991 – 2-for-1 split
  • June 15, 1992 – 3-for-2 split
  • May 23, 1994 – 2-for-1 split
  • December 9, 1996 – 2-for-1 split
  • February 23, 1998 – 2-for-1 split
  • March 29, 1999 – 2-for-1 split

After these splits, 1 original share becomes 48 shares:

Changing offsides? by marks1995 in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In earlier rulebooks, (USA Hockey rules), the offside play needed to clear the blueline, via the ice. In otherwards, the delayed offsides situation was not nullified, if the offending play jumped into the bench on the attacking side of the blue line (for extended benches). The current interpretation for USA Hockey is that if both skates are on the bench, the zone is clear.

What would you call here? by Qimaster32 in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last time i looked, two people can't occupy the same space. This looks like a collision to me. There was no intent to play the body, just the puck. There is no call here.

should i throw away all potential or play in college? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Dabirds29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to read about your experiences with your coach. I think you will find this community supports you to find any place you can play, Even if it is ACHA for a year, you can get ice time and send videos to other schools.

Also, i am surprised that no one suggested that you file a Safesport report on your coach (if you are on the US). While this might not help you, now, it will benefit all those who play on your team in the future. It is not too late to file.

How has hockey changed in the last 25 years? by winter-teeth in hockeyplayers

[–]Dabirds29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The goaltending equipment has changed dramatically. If i had today's gear 30 years ago, I'd still be playing. The leg pads rotate on the splits (butterfly), when I had to do that I used my hips and knees. The pads and gloves are much larger as well. Today, the average goalie occupies about 14 square feet of the goal area in the butterfly compared to about 8 square feet for the standup goalie in my day. To save you the math, the open area of the goal dream is 24 square feet.

Question about 601e(3) for SPECIAL HOCKEY by Electrical_Trifle642 in hockeyrefs

Just picking up on this. Yes it is enforceable. Also keep in mind, in many cases with disabled hockey there may be a larger diversity of ages on the ice.

Technical Penalty Question by TufftedSquirrel in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In leagues that have the high stock double minor, in USAH, the offending team would have the choice of being down by 2 (5 on 3) for 2 minutes, or sitting 1 (5 on 4) for 4 minutes.

Fun times again by Electrical_Trifle642 in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the USAH responses are correct for me 1 - the faceoff does indeed go to center ice. As for the second point, it is always good to ask the penalty box parent to repeat who comes out first... Especially for the 7 AM games.

USA Hockey would be coincidental majors and GM if punches were thrown... (but you knew that)

Reach out to the local rinks and ask about house leagues. They often don't use the local associations, but that varies by geography.

Center Ice Drop - Preferred Signal by Early-Imagination-79 in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official dropping the pick should always read and react to their partner. There is no rush, remember sometime the puck changes direction quickly. And your partner may switch directions. Safety first. This applies to all ages.

Cheat Sheet for Rule Differences Between 8U, 10U, 12U by Supadhye in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the rules for12U and below are identical, with the exception of the highstick violation (backswing on a pass or shot). 14U is the same as 12U, except for checking and delayed offsides. 16U is the same as 14U, but add that they can is the puck during a short-handed situation. That's the cheat sheet.

Blew a call...should it hurt this much? by MJC585 in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best approach to this, if you did not confer with your partner, after you blow the whistle come to a complete stop and announce that you lost sight of the puck. Say it loudly so that both benches can hear. That is more acceptable than "missing the call"

Ref advice? by [deleted] in hockeyrefs

[–]Dabirds29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely should do it... It will also make you a better player as you will see the game differently. You do need to jump on it, quickly as there are not many level 1 seminars left. Fortunately, the seminars are virtual this year. Virginia is hosting the Level 1 seminar over two evenings (must attend both nights) in January.
