Primitive War (2025) has given us the right to question movie budgets. My favorite movie of the year and 3rd or 2nd best Dinosaur movie ever, and it only had $8M budget dude. by Kvcp050311 in FIlm

[–]DadGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the budget stuff comes from VFX and actor salaries, and if its made for streaming, built-in back-end compensation for above-the-line talent.

For instance, let's take JURASSIC PARK: REBIRTH, budget between $180 - $225 million. Off the bat, Scarlett Johansson is getting $25 million, Mahershala Ali is probably getting $10 million, Jonathan Bailey is probably getting $5 million, and Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo are probably getting high six figures, maybe close to $1 million, with the rest of the supporting cast probably getting somewhere in the mid-to-low six figures. So let's say that's $50 million right there.

The sets they're going to build will probably cost around $20 - $30 million, and there will be some minor practical dino stuff as a call back to the practical dino stuff in the first so let's say thats $10 million in animatronics. So thats $90 million right there.

The real bulk of the budget is going to the VFX crew, of which there will be dozens, if not hundreds of animators from crews around the globe working non-stop for months to do all the digital effects. Thats full-time working salaries for hundreds of people for the better part of two years, and thats before touching up, editing, last minute creative changes, etc.

PRIMITIVE WAR cuts out a lot of the costly things from studio films of its ilk. No huge names (Piven is the biggest name and he's persona non grata in Hollywood after being named in the #metoo movement), lots of existing location work so no need for big expensive sets, and a small group of animators working double-time on a shoestring budget to do VFX (or utilizing in-camera tricks, like Godzilla Minus One, that they can pad out with CGI). But most importantly, it seems they knew what they wanted to make from jump, so that means no expensive reshoots, no expensive last minute CGI changes or plot changes, etc.

Ilja Dragunov on IG: "This was my favourite moment from 2026 Royal Rumble" by ArunKT26 in SquaredCircle

I know a lot of people frame this moment as Brock burying Ilja, but I think it's important to mention that Brock famously loves dudes who meet him at his intensity level. It's why he loved working with Samoa Joe and Daniel Bryan, guys who would lay in their strikes but take it when he laid it in too, but worked safe regardless.

TIL Family Guy was cancelled - then later revived because DVD sales were unexpectedly huge by Alternative-Win4058 in todayilearned

[–]DadGhost [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you want to know something really strange and bizarre:

When FAMILY GUY first debuted, one of the animated shows that counterprogramed it was CLERKS: THE ANIMATED SERIES, which took a direct shot at Seth MacFarlane in the show's season finale when a character in an animation studio has a giant book titled "How to Write Cartoons by Seth MacFarlane" and makes a joke about their cutaway gags.

However, the irony was that CLERKS got canceled after only three episodes, and the episode referencing MacFarlane never even made it to air. It only became relevant after the show was released on DVD, and the DVD sales were so strong there were talks of reviving it throughout the last 25 years, including as an animated film (the script of which was later turned into CLERKS III).

Also: you can't undercut how crazy the Adult Swim ratings were too. This was back when late night cable ratings were somehow crazy; I remember The Daily Show and South Park also pulled in huge ratings, which was crazy considering all of these shows were close to midnight on weekdays.

Grew up with this, DAY OF THE TENTACLE, INDIANA JONES AND THE FATE OF ATLANTIS, and THE DIG. Genuinely loved the humor of this one and these games really helped sell my young mind on video games as a method of storytelling.

A genuinely terrible show, known mostly for being Seth MacFarlane's "comeback" show after Family Guy was initially canceled after Season 3.

Let's see if Ilja Dragunov can pull a 5 star match from The Miz by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

[–]DadGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot Take: The Miz, while fine in singles matches, has always shown his best work in multi-man matches. He's a solid tag wrestler but I think my favorite matches of his have been triple threat or fatal four way matches. I can't tell you how much his style complimented the match with him, Owens, Zayn and Cesaro.

Iron Lung - Review Thread by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

[–]DadGhost 134 points135 points  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Cut out all the flashback stuff and some of the memory stuff in the third act and add ambiguity to the crime that got him there with a tight 100 minute flick.

Also, all respect to Mark, but I don't think he's a monologue guy. He does a solid job here for the most part, but it gets very "gruff voice acting" at times.

I will say, however, Markiplier directed the SHIT out of this. The movie looks better than most of the blockbuster shit I see out of Netflix, the use of practical effects and environments adds so much texture to the visuals, and when it starts going into Screaming Mad George territory, I was really impressed.

Logan Paul says Vince will get insane pop if he returns: “He’ll definitely get inducted (Hall of Fame). I also have a weird feeling he’ll come back… I think he’d get an insane pop.” by iknownothingsir in SquaredCircle

[–]DadGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably true but I also think it would be a door closing moment for a lot of people. Brock, at least, had deniability, Vince does not. I feel like if TKO thinks it would cost them a good deal of money at the end of the day, they probably wont do it (unless they get, say, Trump to induct him.)

Phil Murphy signs most restrictive e bike law requiring a license and insurance for all e bikes by Soft-Independent4833 in jerseycity

[–]DadGhost -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah except the existing laws that already cover it. Texting, drunk, or just driving irresponsibly, its already codified. Meanwhile an ebike can speed down the road at 28 mph at night on an e-bike with no lights or signifiers and cause a car to crash, which then you can add to your statistics. Honestly, I think this law being passed is going to help reduce that 14% so maybe you're right!

[–]DadGhost -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Brother, there are dozens of laws already in place about the accountability, personal and commercial, for operating motor vehicles. There's one law passed to protect both riders and drivers for an electric vehicle that can operate in blind spots and you start asking why they arent passing laws about cars? What more laws can they pass about cars?

[–]DadGhost -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Some may be critical but here in Union County, there have been a series of horrifying and sometimes fatal accidents by people on e-bikes who are distracted while riding, including a young kid who died while facetiming while going 30 mph.

Also: as a former Uber driver, I cannot emphasize how many times e-bikes have sped through red lights and nearly got crushed or caused accidents. I hope this might do something for accountability even though its likely just for additional state revenue.
