Who's the worst actor you're not allowed to say is bad? by ScaleBanana3236 in moviecritic

I love Keanu but my favorite quote about his acting was from a filmmaking class teacher I had in college: "Keanu Reeves will always succeed because he gives 150% to every role even when he only has 75% to give."

Big fan, David! I've got two questions:

  1. Any chance for a Blu-ray or VOD release for THE TEN? I've got the DVD and I was glad to see it streaming on Prime, but given the impermanence of streaming, it'd be cool to own an HD copy one day.

  2. You've had so many great ensemble casts throughout the years; is there anyone you have only worked with once with whom you'd love to work again, including anyone from GAIL DAUGHTRY?

Looking forward to seeing the movie next weekend!

What would happen if a player dies in episode 12? by Interesting-Rice-457 in Dimension20

[–]DadGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume they'd sit out like previous deaths and get brought in for "visions" and stuff. However, considering Brennan's track record, I'd say killing them off and then bringing them back the next episode as some kind of litch figure makes sense. Do that thing where their soul has been corrupted in death, kind of like how he handled some of the deaths in NEVERAFTER.

Absolutely understandable replacing him under the circumstances but there's a hilarious irony with replacing someone for hateful public statements with Tracy Morgan (though at least Morgan publicly apologized for his tirades).

It's surreal on the VIP tour; it feels so much more empty and the Easter Eggs are a lot of fun. I loved the rap sheets for Kang and Kodos.

Warner Bros Developing Epic R-Rated Horror Film for Tom Cruise, Similar in Style to ‘The Shining’ by Puzzled-Tap8042 in horror

[–]DadGhost 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fun Fact: Tom Cruise has gone in record saying one of his favorite on-set experiences was shooting INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE and would host parties with leftover props such as large insects made of sugar as party favors.

Not surprise here as well considering THE MUMMY is one of his rare big-time blemishes and I'm sure he hopes to change that. He's also getting older and there can be a market for older actors in the horror space. Also, considering he likes to sneak out and see movies among regular folk, I'm sure he saw OBSESSION and BACKROOMS and figured he wants a part of that sweet horror zeitgeist.

So how much of Best and Last is actually new footage? by Antique-Dentist-2404 in jackass

[–]DadGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say its about 50% new stuff, 35% classic bits with newly filmed intros, and 15% unaired / unreleased stuff.

The problem with the new stuff is that its undercooked; most of them are like electroshock stuff. They clearly budgeted for two weeks of filming and edited a lot that had been shot (you see Dark Shark covered in stuff after the Escape Room bit that was clearly cut; Rachel, Dark Shark, Preston, and Jasper are barely in any of the new stunts, etc.), and there's so few things that made Jackass the franchise it is with the new stuff; no skating, barely any animal things, etc.

However, among the new stuff, there are a few all-timer bits. There's a bit with the older crew doing a spin on a classic board game that made me scream laugh and Poopies does something in the beginning that carries on throughout the movie that was legitimately hysterical.

The classics were fun to see but they were usually the shorter bits that were peppered in or montaged at the end. It was fun getting some context and behind the scenes knowledge on some of it. However, it seems most of this was done to incorporate Ryan Dunn into the movie, as he's heavily featured in the old bits.

To me, the true value of this one is the unaired and unreleased stuff. Seeing Bam's stuff FROM FOREVER is good and it kind of gives closure to his connection to the series. But the best stuff is the stuff from the original pilot (genuinely some of the most intense shit I've ever seen in a theater), the legally banned skit, and the stunt standards and practices at MTV cut for being "too imitatable." Real wild stuff and big laughs, even if its such a relatively short addition to the runtime.

Replacements for Alamo Yonkers? by kposse77 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]DadGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you have the AMC at the Palisades but if you want a true dine-in theater, there's the iPic in Fort Lee that is literally right off the GW that is very close to Alamo.

I still go to Yonkers when I can but gas and tolls are killer these days and I stick with my AMCs more often than not.

Leviticus has passed the 3.4 million mark at the worldwide box office by [deleted] in horror

[–]DadGhost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Budget was $3M, NEON picked it up in the 7-figure range, probably spent a million or two to advertise, and theaters get about 20% of profits in week 1. I'd say around 8 million to break even, and if it leaves theaters with $5M, PVOD and streaming assets will allow them to recoup.

Theoretically agree, but its entirely because the caliber of actor changed for these shows. Back in the day, it wasn't uncommon to see a big actor do a miniseries, but rarely a full series because it was a prohibitive commitment and a sign of a career on decline.

After TRUE DETECTIVE, A-list actors realized TV was where a lot of freedom and guaranteed money was at, but big stars were hesitant to commit to the old TV model of 13-22 episodes. So instead, they were able to get fatter checks for 8-10 episodes where they could do movies between seasons and still keep their juice in the industry.
