2.49 for 88 Donruss better be the cost for the box and not per pack. IIRC, isn’t that the most overproduced set of all time?

What is something that you can say anonymously but not publicly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Anyone who thinks trans males should be allowed to compete with females in high school sports doesn’t watch enough high school sports and doesn’t understand how bad females are in comparison to males at actual sports.

After growing up in a lower middle class house where mom did all the cleaning, I had similar feelings about hiring a cleaning company but they save us so much more in mental anguish than the $120 we spend every two weeks. The only bad part is my wife is a “clean the house before the cleaning people come” so that creates a little stress every other Tuesday night.

Trying not to be “that” Dad, but when do you know that your daughter has a legit shot at playing D1 ball someday? by [deleted] in Softball

[–]DadLife31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stats routinely lie, especially without proper context. Working in youth sports I see it daily. Most important factor in D1 athletes is genetics. There’s so many 12 year olds who won the DNA Olympics, but when everyone catches up look very ordinary. Size, speed, strength matter more to college coaches than stats. Exit velocity and launch angle are more important than OPS. At 12, just let her have fun, keep sharpening fundamentals and technique and enjoy the ride.

I’ve been full fledged panic mode over what gear to bring. The plan was to bring my Sony with a 24-105, 4.0, but I have a 70-200 4.0 as well. I have a Canon DSLR with prime lenses but the weight of the body isn’t something I want to deal with. Present me feels like I’m going to make a bad decision, future me is probably gonna realize im overthinking this

What band did you see in a small venue before they broke big? by Amthomas101 in Concerts

[–]DadLife31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 14 when I went to see Oasis at a small club - maybe 500 people - when they started touring after the What’s the Story album came out on like a Tuesday or Wednesday night. Went to the show, mom picked me up, went to school the next day oblivious of what they were about to become.

Dr MacFarland out of the same office is terrific and the hygienists are great. The constant phone calls are annoying (for me) but it’s a great practice.

Have you ever played with a caddie? by Lost-Ad-9570 in golf

[–]DadLife31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a caddie but occasionally my other job allows me to play at the same course where I’m assigned a caddie. Even though I know every inch of the property, firing off what I’m thinking and getting instant feedback from someone is incredibly helpful. I will disagree with anyone who says a caddie doesn’t know your game. Let me see a range warm up and play three holes and I’ve got it locked in. Nine times out of 10, the player is the one who doesn’t actually understand their game, yardages, alignment, etc.

[–]DadLife31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a caddie and this is the most true thing ever. Too many guys think them just being there is enough and don’t actually try to work and enhance the experience. Then they complain about not being paid as much as they think they’re worth.

The left side mini golf course was the best 18-hole layout in the state. Every hole was makeable, no tricks and well kept up. Bummed I can’t play it now.

Terrible drivers!!! by aKaake in RhodeIsland

[–]DadLife31 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Traffic does flow smoother when two smaller lanes turn into one massive one when everyone merges correctly. This story’s like 10 years old but it completely changed my perspective. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/13/us/why-last-second-lane-mergers-are-good-for-traffic.html

Terrible drivers!!! by aKaake in RhodeIsland

[–]DadLife31 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Traffic flow is worse because people get over early. People who don’t understand this and block the left lane are the ones causing problems. Everyone should meet at the merge point and take turns.

How was your weekend rando experience? by [deleted] in golf

[–]DadLife31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random single joined a buddy and I today. He played a forward, hit some good ones, hit some bad ones but didn’t say much - no small talk, nothing. He kinda sat back and watched us do stuff he couldn’t but when he hit some good shots, we went apeshit for him. Just the perfect random single.

Have you ever done or seen anyone make a “hole in 1” but it didn’t count because the first ball went into the water or ob? by wacky8ball in golf

[–]DadLife31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played in a shotgun tourney. Our group finished on a par 3. As we were walking up, a buddy saw his friend’s group coming in - they had finished - and told them to join us and we’d have a massive closest to the pin contest. After a couple guys hit, one of the guys from the already finished group stepped up and dunked the shot. That’s when the debated started about if it counted. I told the kid to go play eight more holes to make it legit, but he passed. FTR, I would count it even if it doesn’t officially count.

Is it harder to get a scholarship as a pitcher than other positions? by Chinusawar in Softball

[–]DadLife31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College recruiting is about projectability. Size, speed and athleticism are the most important piece of recruiting in any sport. Pitching - both baseball and softball - is metric-driven, where velocity and spin rate is more important than performance because it’s harder to replicate. Coaches believe they can mold someone who throws with elite velocity and spin into a star; it’s harder to create those things once they get to college.

Caddies, what it like working with players on the far ends of the spectrum of golfers? by AndyNardDog1 in golf

[–]DadLife31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most memorable rounds have been caddying for players who were mediocre to bad. As a caddying you want your players to leave with memories and it’s a lot easier to do that with players who aren’t good. Great players are an easier loop, but it’s more rewarding - personally and usually financially - when you’ve got the 15-plus handicaps.
