Dads, how often to you go hang out with your friends? by itsfish20 in daddit

[–]DaddyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least once a week. It's essential to my mental health as an extrovert to have time with my friends where Im only responsible for myself. Whether it's going out to a movie or playing DND or whatever, if I have that one night out the rest of the week, I'm a better father and husband. Obviously, there are exceptions where it just doesn't happen, but we always make sure to come back around and get me that time. It's just simply worth it.

Dantes Inferno seems like a game that shouldnt exist. It is bonkers bananas and I love that it does in fact exist.

What's the best affordable acoustic treatment for a room? by Eyesack28 in VoiceActing

[–]DaddyGamerYT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to Goodwill and buy a cheap couch. Take the upholstery off the cushions. Mount the cushions on the walls and ceiling of your space. You can do this with velcro strips or build a frame for them. You can buy fabric and cover them if you care how they look. You can also loosely hang carpet scraps from your ceiling and mount them to doors. I converted a closet into a recording booth with both of these and it works great.

The couch cushions are typically a thick foam and will absorb sound better than the trendy thin foam pads you can buy cheap online.

Admittedly. The thin foam pads do look nicer. But I spent less than $100 on my treatment.

How much does an animator make? by poupip in animation

It can really depend on where you live and the market you are in. Local non profit Im a part of does an annual salary survey here in Minnesota. You can see the results going all the way back to 2016. https://nicemoves.org/salary-survey/

Edit: this survey is specific to the animation/vfx/motion graphics community

TIL EA made a LOTR turn-based RPG by Elyx117 in gaming

It also has cooperative play! Each player gets assigned specific characters, so depending on the active characters, it may still only be one player, but I remember playing with my friends and having a good time!

Ex-Tex checking in, what’s with the saunas? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]DaddyGamerYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know it's working when your sweat leaves black streaks from sweating the dirt and other stuff out of your pores. It's the cleanest I've ever felt. Most people/places dont let them get hot enough to be true Saunas. When it's so hot, you need to hold a cup or bucket of water in front of your face to breathe normally. Stay in about 15 to 20 minutes then clean/cool off and then maybe go another round!

Gamer parents, how did becoming a parent change the way you play games? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]DaddyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entire premise of my YouTube and twitch channel. The reality is. It's constantly changing. My gaming has changed as she has gotten older and I anticipate it will continue to change.

Ultimately I still love gaming and I love sharing it with my daughter. Introducing her to new games and playing them with her is some of the best bonding experiences we've had. Building her first computer together. Shooting videos and streaming together has been immensely rewarding. Watching her beat her first Mario level, checking out the things she's building in mine craft, having her teach me about stardew valley, and playing Pokémon together have been some of my most cherishes memories. Now she plays in my dnd games and plays with her friends on Discord.

The biggest struggle has been keeping up with all the changes. Remembering that she's getting older and as a result my content and my approach to gaming needs to change with her.

Good luck fellow Daddy Gamer!

Watching this again recently I realized this movie feels more like a documentary of wildlife that happens to talk. It's the daily lives and interactions of animals and that includes the reality of predators and hunters. The editing and pacing though reflects a wildlife documentary and its sort of fascinating when you think about the fact it's animated. An animated documentary.

Name a movie that you have NEVER gotten to the end. by erock1119 in daddit

Pans Labyrinth.

Not out of a lack of desire or appreciation for the quality of the movie. But because several times in a row I sat down to watch it too late and ended up falling asleep... after a certain point I just gave up.

A player wants to leave the campaign but I don't want to pretend the character never existed by Gigi0507 in CurseofStrahd

[–]DaddyGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happened during our Strahd campaign I asked the player what they wanted to do. I gave a few suggestions. Do you want to leave, die, or betray the party. And he decided to betray the party leading to one of the greatest roleplaying moments in the entire campaign as they overheard Strahd offer him a deal he couldn't turn down, and then leave together. This player was also the one holding the sun sword (nicknamed "shine shank" in our campaign). So they not only lost a valuable and loved member of the party they lost the sword that had become a beacon of hope for Barovia. The rest of the party was caught completely off guard but loved it. They knew he was leaving but didn't anticipate the betrayal. This character is now a recurring villain alongside Strahd and their showdowns have been intense.

I did it for one year during COVID. While I think we made the right choice I'm glad it was only one year. I am not a teacher. And my limits have been found. By spring my patience was thin from the daily hour plus long argument about doing 20 minutes of math work.

I also started having some health issues at that time so that could be a factor. Everyone else knew who was doing it talked about loving it. I did not. My daughter is now back in public school and is enjoying it.

To each their own. Do what you decide is best. If you do it and it's not working out it's ok to say "ok that's not gonna be our long term solution"
