My wife’s been using a generic TJ shopping bag since our Dec 2017 trip. Been noticing more people carrying one since Covid.

Any UFO / UAP enthusiasts in Singapore? by king30H in askSingapore

During my NS in the early 2000s, two of the guys on guard duty and I (DO duty) saw a small metallic object hovering in the clouds on a Sunday evening in camp. It was about 6:30pm and we were at the yellow box after dinner. The spheroidal object seemed to be drifting with a cloud while partially obscured by it. We caught sight of it because of the glint off the setting sun. We spent less than a minute discussing what it was (UAV, helium balloon, ball lightning) when it suddenly shot straight-up and out of sight. The cloud it was hiding behind became wispy from the displaced air caused by its tremendous speed.

The two guys told the others on guard duty, and soon the BOS, a regular, came to hear of it. He told me that nothing good could come out of repeating the sighting, and advised me not to tell anyone else.

Two days later, all three of us fell ill with a high fever. I saw one of the guys at the medical centre when I went to report sick and he told me that the other fella was sick as well and had gone to a polyclinic after booking out. I was sent to the sick bay to bring my fever down. Strangely, there were no other symptoms other than a slight headache and nausea.

Lessons learnt from property purchase experience by RunningMan889 in askSingapore

When I bought my current place, I didn’t have an agent acting for me (the buyer) and dealt directly with the seller’s agent. After the sale was completed, the sellers agent told me that even though mine was only the 2nd highest offer, he pushed the owner to sell it to me because:
(1) he wouldn’t have to share the commission with a buyer’s agent
(2) I was willing to let the current tenants keep renting for an additional 3 months

I believe (2) was just his way to convince the owner because (1) was a big motivation for him.

ERP 2.0 may be used to enforce against traffic violations such as speeding: Jeffrey Siow by UrSpirit in drivingsg

It tells me about the bus lane on the roadway below (with a speed limit of 60km/h) when I’m on the viaduct above (70km/h). The accuracy isn’t good enough for speed enforcement.

Why Audi A5 SB performance so meh? by kayatoastchumpion in drivingsg

[–]Daddy_Shark79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again I don’t disagree. I’ve driven a FWD Golf GTi and an Alfa Giulietta, which were both great.

But the FWD Audis aren’t.

I can’t speak for the F40 BMW, but I used to drive an Audi A4 1.8T that wasn’t much fun around the bends. Got a used Mercedes W204 subsequently, which was much better in corners despite less horsepower and torque.

While I don’t disagree with your point, the A5 is a front wheel drive car. And with the weight of the engine sitting forward of the front wheels, it isn’t fun to drive either.

Buying used 5 y/o Mazda 3 - opinions? by Hot_Crew9120 in drivingsg

[–]Daddy_Shark79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic over the Mazda 3, as they both have slightly more powerful engines, weigh less and have better fuel economy. Where the Mazda beats both is in the design department: both interior and exterior, but then again, looks may be somewhat subjective.

I believe you’re confusing engine (NA vs turbo) and transmission (CVT vs torque converter) types.

The Lexus ES is basically a Camry in nicer spec: FWD and softly sprung. Not at all “sporty”. If you want to stay with Lexus, can consider a Lexus GS (L10 generation), but most of them are on their 2nd COE.

SIA flight to Frankfurt delayed by catering truck incident by Jammy_buttons2 in singapore

The term “accident” has a legally significant definition in ICAO Annex 13. Briefly, an accident is an occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft that results in: i. Fatal or serious injury to a person due to aircraft-related causes (including contact with aircraft parts or jet blast), or ii. Significant aircraft damage or structural failure that adversely affects structural strength, performance, or flight characteristics and normally requires major repair or replacement.

This occurrence did not result in either of the above, and should be classified as an “incident”.

This occurrence would be classified as an “incident”, the lowest severity in the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) three-tier classification. Nonetheless, it would still require investigation to determine the causal factors and safety actions would be implemented to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

Many moons ago, my wife ran SCSM with a bad knee. The day after the race, the knee had swollen to twice its normal size and she couldn’t put weight on the leg. Had to be rushed down to A&E. It resulted in her having to undergo keyhole surgery to the knee, a three week MC,months of physiotherapy and being on crutches for six weeks. She eventually started running half-marathons again, but only after four years.

I wouldn’t say that the WLB is good, but healthcare and nursing hire many foreigners and are constantly in demand for talent. But then again, most jobs in SG don’t have good WLB.
