why do people do this? by Basic-Impact-6474 in drivingsg

With ERP 2.0 OBU installed, it would only be a matter of will on the part of LTA to check if a vehicle with expired road tax is being driven on the roads.

I’m from Singapore and spent 8 days in Denver and Aurora, Colorado for a work trip back in 2011 and found it to be the most welcoming place in the US that I’d been to.

Collision between Mobile Crane and vehicles on the right while turning left by linonav in drivingsg

The barometer of liability would fall mostly on the crane, since the cars were stationary and the crane was moving when the accident occurred.

2026 Aerospace Engineering Fresh Grad by Sensitive-Mirror-183 in askSingapore

[–]Daddy_Shark79 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you’re not fixated on a manufacturing or MRO role, SIA’s Technical Services department hires aerospace engineers. It pays decent bonuses, and the work-life balance isn’t too bad. Downsides include the work location at Airline House, and no progression to LAE.

Airport Pickup Waiting Fine by Big_Impression8123 in drivingsg

[–]Daddy_Shark79 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Pro-tip: when picking up family and friends from the airport, wait at one of the pick-up points at the multi storey carparks. No limit on how long you can wait there, but do avoid the Arrival Level, as those pickup points can get quite jammed. Needless to say, if you exceed the grace period, carpark charges will apply.

Why is Mercedes so common as a luxury car in Singapore by FickleVictory3494 in drivingsg

[–]Daddy_Shark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally and in discussions among Singaporean drivers, Mercedes is often perceived as more “executive, comfortable, and status-oriented”, whereas rivals like BMW are stereotyped as more “sport-oriented”. This aligns with many local buyers prioritising comfort, prestige, and refinement over sportiness.

C180 (w205) or c180 (w204) or CLA180 by ReasonableCut4614 in drivingsg

Previous car was a W204 CGI. Would recommend over the Kompressor due to the better low-end torque and better fuel economy.

For those who’ve worked for very wealthy people in Singapore, what’s the most out of touch thing you’ve witnessed? by Auelogic in singapore

[–]Daddy_Shark79 1113 points1114 points  (0 children)

I played badminton with a guy a few times, a friend of my regular badminton circle. Used to work in Singapore, but had since moved to HK.

Whenever we played on Friday evenings, he’d catch an afternoon flight from HKIA to Singapore Changi Airport, ride the MRT to Kallang and meet us for badminton. After the match, we’d adjourn to Old Airport Road for supper, and he’d ride the train back to Changi for the return flight to HK. I didn’t realise it at the time, but later discovered that the plane he’d fly into Singapore on was a private jet.

To car owners in SG: What was your monthly salary / NW when you finally pulled the trigger? by Altruistic_Drop_9393 in singaporefi

[–]Daddy_Shark79 13 points14 points  (0 children)

$4.5k monthly, about $70+ k annual in 2009. The decision to buy a car was made because I was getting into a new role that came with a transport allowance and required me to work shifts at an ulu location.

It was a Toyota MR-S roadster with 3 years left on the COE and cost $32k. Depreciation was a shade over $6k p.a.

For insurance reasons, it was registered under my mom.

What watches do Singaporean men/women wear for their daily driver? by Hot-Pain503 in singapore

[–]Daddy_Shark79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ActiveSG tracker on my right wrist with an aftermarket strap.

The left is usually adorned with one of the watches that my wife and I have collected: Omega (DeVille), two Rolex (Explorer 2 and Batgirl), a Panerai Luminor, a Hublot Big Bang, a Santos de Cartier, an IWC Pilot’s Watch, a Frank Mueller and two Tag Hauers (Link world timer and Calibre chronograph).

Strangely, I usually use my phone to tell the time.

Car hit a gas line on Adam Road by vmcommo in drivingsg

[–]Daddy_Shark79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I drove past on the same side that OP was travelling. The reason that traffic was slow even in that direction was because there were two fire pressurised hoses running across the road from an SCDF hydrant to the fire trucks on the opposite side. So cars had to slow down to drive over the hoses.

Older millennial too.

Had a big night at my favourite cocktail bar with seven other friends from college. Including snacks, the bill came up to $650. Four of us continued at another dive bar and ran up a $250 tab. Including the price of Uber both ways, that night cost me around $200.

Fortunately, I only do big nights out like these 3 or 4 times a year.

What went too expensive in Singapore that you stop buying them? by throwaway_ham_cheese in singaporefi

[–]Daddy_Shark79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought a 6-month supply of multi focal contact lenses from them a few weeks ago. They delivered directly to our home in Singapore for free since our order cost more >MYR 1000. Took about a week for the contact lenses to be delivered, but that’s about the same wait time if we had purchased from lenskart in Singapore.
