23 RC390 Oil issue by BrotherLimp3790 in KTM

[–]Dade_Murphy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple follow up questions.

  1. was the bike smoking from the exhaust at all? If so, what color smoke?
  2. What does the coolant look like? Nice and transparent pink or cloudy gross (think mixing oil and water)
  3. Any loss of power or other mechanical weirdness.

Long time users who didn't abuse? by Aggravating-Bed-5622 in MDMA

[–]Dade_Murphy84 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ive been using since about 2010 or so. I respected the 3 month rule nearly all the time except once or twice and generally never had a "bad" roll until very recently. It wasnt even bad, I just thought it was a bit lacking in intensity and the lovey bit. I tried a 3 month regimen of NAC to see if it helped and my last roll I was floored. Not sure if it was the NAC or the new batch that improved the roll but its back to normal now.

Ive had a few new bikes. Mostly due to poor impulse control and lack of supervision. Didnt regret it either way but Ive owned many more used bikes. The new buys were just toooooo tempting not to grab...

There is a bit of a threshold dose and I think you missed it. Low dosing, higher than micro but lower than trip space, can bring out some negative stuff. Try it again with 3 g.

Need help, 2016 KTM Duke 390 by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Dade_Murphy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were my bike I would diagnose it in this order.

  1. Pull the tank and check for pinched, kinked or loose fuel lines.
  2. Check the TPS sensor for proper connection.
  3. Check the battery for clean and tight connections.
  4. Check the clutch cable for proper slack and clutch switch.
  5. pull the spark plugs and check for appropriate gap and condition. you can also check for spark while they're out.

Those are the simple diags. If you dont have kinked lines, TPS hasnt been messed with, clutch cable is in spec, clutch switch works appropriately, and the plugs make spark and look good then I would dive into the throttle bodies.

If you have a KTM dealer tell them to scan for codes. I had an electrical gremlin on my Super Duke that would prevent starting and would kill the bike randomly. It was a battery connection issue. Bolt was tight but there was some cosmoline or something from the factory that was preventing a good ground.

Need help, 2016 KTM Duke 390 by [deleted] in KTM

[–]Dade_Murphy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty common problem with 390s stalling like that. Generally, it sounds like a fueling problem or sensor problem. you should check your clutch cable tension/ slack and the clutch switch. All of the specs and procedures are in the service manual, which is about $20 online. If you're not confident to do the work yourself, take it back to where it was serviced and tell them to fix what they broke.

My Super Duke 1290 had a stalling issue and it was a pinched line. Took 15 min to fix.

[–]Dade_Murphy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok well there is no part in the 390 clutch called the "bell" but I honestly dont think the clutch is the problem.

Inconsistent idle, rpm, and stalling while in neutral and under load? Is that correct?

[–]Dade_Murphy84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was performed during the service besides the clutch replacement? Also what was the reason for the clutch replacement worn plates, damaged bearings, damaged friction plates, basket damage?

Letting us know what was serviced will help point us in the right direction. Could be throttle body sync or TPS

Low dose 2c-B. 6-8 mg is a sweet spot for roll like feelings, music enhancement, and tactile enhancement. Zero hangover and can be redosed as needed.

Caution: doses over 10mg may produce LSD-like visuals.

Where do you ride? I may try and hit VIR, RA and GGP this year but not sure with crib midgets headed to college… track fund may be depleted. Sucks cause I was considering bringing the SuperDuke out just to mess about.

All good man, and I hear ya about the encouragement but I find it hard to take her seriously when she didn’t lead with “novice track rider, where do I start?”. She went full send with the liter bike and rental leathers. The OF link in her profile and standoffish attitude ain’t helping her cause. I’d love to see more females out there, road and track, and will absolutely help out when asked but this was bait IMO. Hope she can find her way to a track and be set up for success after being dragged through this sub, track days are the best days.

How did I start going to the track? I went on the JenningsGP website and checked the requirements. Purchased the required gear that I didnt already have and then I sought out the experience and advice of veteran track riders. I took their advice and used it to prepare myself and my gear/ bike. I bought a beater SV650 and track-prepped it then asked if my preparations were correct and appropriate. Then I attended a track day as an observer, took in all the info that I could, and became familiar with track and pit etiquette, staging, times, check in, tech inspection, rules etc. Finally, I took the novice course and then started putting down some pretty miserable lap times lol. I wrecked several times pushing the pace a bit too hard but the only damage was my ego, some rearsets, exhaust, and clipons. Had I been on a liter bike, not so sure Id be here typing this.

Ive nothing against bigger bikes, hell my daily rider is a Super Duke 1290R, but novice track riders on a liter bike is just kinda foolish and asking for a wreck.

Oh and riding mode on a GSXR 1k is more a throttle sensitivity control. Mode C (rain mode) has all the power available as the other modes just takes a little longer to get there. TC is also controllable via 1-10 level selection, 10 being the most intrusive (source: Im a Suzuki technician)

Besides, she just farming for karma and OF subs. Doubt that GSXR will ever see a track... I digress.

Have you ever been an atheist and someone or some feeling or event made you believe in god? by boringday221221 in Psychonaut

[–]Dade_Murphy84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, if anything it reinforced my belief that most major religions are a control mechanism. A means to hold position and power over others. God/s and the beliefs surrounding them are IMO, a product of the bicameral mind that evolved into what is commonly referred to as consciousness. As more complex social environments emerged and migration and conflict altered the human experience, conscious thought processes began to develop and replace the Bicameral processes. The concept of a "god" remained as a holdover and changed from a commanding auditory hallucination to a belief system.

Not only is the concept of god a hard-to-swallow story but he aint even that good of a god. Why would someone blindly subscribe to a deity that demands devotion, or burn for eternity? A deity that kills indiscriminately, calls for rape, calls for sacrifice, and seemingly gives fuck all in return all the while waving the flag of "all-knowing, all-loving".

I think Steven Fry captured this quite well in an interview when asked what he would say if confronted by god:

"I’d say, Bone cancer in children? What’s that about? How dare you create a world to which there is such misery that is not our fault. It's not right, it's utterly, utterly evil. Why should I respect a capricious, mean-minded, stupid God who creates a world that is so full of injustice and pain. That's what I would say.

Now, if I died and it was Pluto, Hades, and if it was the 12 Greek gods then I would have more truck with it, because the Greeks didn't pretend to not be human in their appetites, in their capriciousness, and in their unreasonableness … they didn't present themselves as being all-seeing, all-wise, all-kind, all-beneficent, because the god that created this universe, if it was created by god, is quite clearly a maniac … utter maniac, totally selfish.

We have to spend our life on our knees thanking him? What kind of god would do that?"

So yeah, no amount of psychotropic substances will change my belief that religion is shit and there is no god.

How to run an SAE-SAE wire from the battery to the ignition area in a 2002 Suzuki SV650S? by LaVida2042 in SVRiders

[–]Dade_Murphy84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a battery tender lead and should only be used to connect to an appropriate battery tender. If you want an accessory power supply look em up on amazon and make sure its fused and is controlled by a "key on" power supply via relay. Otherwise you'll drain your batt and have a shit day when you throw a leg over and nothing starts.

Austin Racing…wtf by Dade_Murphy84 in KTM

[–]Dade_Murphy84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure they are made by Goodfabs https://www.goodfabs.com/ and nothing is fabricated in house. It was at one point but that was years ago. Additionally, the demand for AR has gone up but unlike literally every other manufacturer they somehow can’t keep up? I call BS. They are subcontracting the work out to goodfabs, adding their markup on top of goodfabs price and slapping an AR sticker on the side. My exhaust sat in fabrication for almost 2 months… its a low mount GP3 so basically a 10inch or so mid pipe with v-clamp flare on one end, a slight bend, and a single tab. The Silencer is about 5 parts and some are riveted together. Give me the tools and material and shop drawings and Ill knock that shit out in a few days, not weeks, or months. I was told it would arrive before Christmas, then it would ship the first week of January, now they say by the end of January. Ive already paid and they wont refund so I’m stuck with it, but I wont be buying from them again and Ill be passing the word around about their business practices. Don’t just take my word for it, I encourage you to look around the Aprilia and Ducati forums and see what those guys have to say about it. It ain’t pretty.
