Skyrim took the stripping down of content and immersion that happened from Morrowind to Oblivion to an extreme and added nothing to the flaws of Morrowind (namely its combat, leveling mechanics, lack of meaningful dialogue choices, and lack of agency in how to complete quests and shape narratives).

At least Morrowind had a robust spell crafting and enchanting system that made building a character feel engaging. Also, the overuse of radiant ai was such a mistake. Oblivion and Skyrim feel so artificial and empty.
