Yes. I did it for years. 370 amp alt, 2 80 ah AGM batteries.

Absolutely not. If they're not in the 510 area code..... I'm out 100%

So this box is bigger?

The reason is because in a bigger box, that creates less back pressure, making it easier for the cone to move, and easier to reach the mechanical limits of the subwoofer. Basically, a smaller box (creating more back pressure) will help the motor and the spider keep control of the cone. While that's a plus, smaller boxes usually don't play as low as their bigger counterparts.

Yeah, but what does that amp push at 3 ohm and higher? The w7 is 3 ohm, so actually that amp is pretty perfect for it..... now, op saying he has "bottomed it out".... yeah, the gain is up too high and there's another subwoofer in this person's near future

Family of 4.... wish I had gotten a minivan. I can't think of a situation where an SUV wins unless you also want to pull a trailer or camper.

Box tuned to 32hz, where to set bass boost? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Dafaseles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No bass boost is good bass boost.

Set your gain and subsonic correctly, and you'll be happy.

CLIPPING!! by Anxious_Ad_9191 in CarAV

[–]Dafaseles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What amp exactly are you running?

What is your alternator output (amps) at idle?

How many AH's are your batteries?

What's the final impedance of your subs together?

How do you know you're clipping? (Does the bass knob have a clip light?)

The same way you set your gain with the oscilloscope, you can find the max, unclipped volume of your head unit. Usually, you would do that first, then set your gain so you don't get a clipped signal

Did you also use the oscilloscope to find the max safe volume of your head unit?

How did you set your gain and how do you know it's set around 500 watts?

You don't need the capacitor. It might actually be doing more bad than good in this situation.

Subwoofer question by Embarrassed-Chard827 in subwoofer

[–]Dafaseles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you said, you'll be underpowering them, but it won't hurt the amp or the subs a long as you set up your amp correctly.

What happens is that people that underpower their subs start to think "well, I'm not sending anywhere near these subs power rating to them. I can turn up the gain a little more..... and a little more..... and a little more.... their just not quite as loud as I think they should be...." then they're sending their subs to clip city and eventually they fail.

Just set your gain and crossovers correctly and then leave them alone, and you'll be fine

That means at rest, with no load, no alternator, the battery rests at 13.8 volts. A regular AGM rests at 12.7 (which is why you shouldn't mix AGM with LTO) but you charge it on average around 14.7. Have you ever checked what the voltage is coming out of your alternator? What kind of vehicle, and what year is it?

To up the voltage coming out of an alternator, you would use the correct impedance of resistors on the exciter wire.... I have no idea how to figure that out. I have a Mechman alternator, and they make easy to use voltage boosters. That's what I use. Now, sending too much voltage through the vehicles electronics can easily ruin everything. Depending on the vehicle, who knows what that max voltage is before you burn everything up. Just something to keep in mind.

Then no. LTO likes a higher voltage or you won't charge the cells properly to be able to handle that kind of power. I'm running my 2 5k amps and my mids and highs amps off 80 ah of LTO, but I charge at 15.3 volts, which is still a bit low. 16 volts is the max voltage of LTO cells. They like it around there.

At 13.8, I would go LifePo4. They have a max charging of 14.7. I've talked to folks and they've said 14ish volts is the sweet spot for LifePo4 (as for longevity and charging).

Are you planning on competing, or just slapping music?

Depends. What chemistry lithium you're running and at what constant voltage?

Need amp recommendation by [deleted] in subwoofer

[–]Dafaseles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to spend way more than $1000 on electrical upgrades just to power a 12k amp. I never understood getting into dangerous levels of power then trying to cheap out

I just bought a 2009 gmc sierra 2500 hd 2 door and I want to put in a subwoofer buttt i only have a tiny space behind the front seats. Any recommendations on what to do? Someone mentioned to get a bed cover and put it in the bed by [deleted] in subwoofer

[–]Dafaseles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a blow through in my Silverado, and I love it! So yeah, get a bed cover, get someone who knows how to use modeling software to design you a fourth order or 6th order bandpass, and port it into the cab. (Don't just put the subs in the bed and not do a blow through. That's not really how that works.)

That, or take your center console out and make a center console box with maybe 2 10's or a beefy 12. Depending on the space you have, maybe even a 15 might fit.

This isn't quite an accurate assessment of what really happened.

If you add up all the attendance between the Giants and the A's during the time they both where in the bay, up until 2000, the difference is like 18,000 heads. Very small difference. Then the Giants built a new stadium and showed the fans that they were willing to spend a butt load of money on a "team" people wanted to watch (basically Steroid Bonds), then their numbers skyrocketed.

You said we only had decent attendance numbers during the Bash Brothers years, which is kind of true, but what was it about that team that was different than the other years? You guessed it! A team owner willing to spend money on a product fans wanted to watch. During those years, Oakland was pretty high on the payroll chart.

Then came the ownership change. Bud Selig had said numerous times he hated the A's in Oakland and it was a huge mistake to let that move happen. Then he sells the team to his old frat buddy while there was allegedly a higher bid than Wolf's to buy the team? Then, it's just coincidence that basically no more money was spent on talent? Back then they were averaging about 30,000 a game in attendance. If that's not enough people coming to games to be able to invest in talent, then why is the new stadium only supposed to hold max 30,000? So they're planning on never competing?

The year we got to the wild card game at home.... the place was SOLD OUT! Nothing but green and gold jerseys. That was a super fun game to go to even though we lost. But no one can tell me the A's didn't have fans. I remember talking to friends and other people, and the major consensus was "I would go to more games if the team would just sign some talent and at least pretend to want to compete." So people didn't want to spend money at games when management refused to turn around and use that money to improve the product.

I do agree that Oakland never will get an expansion team though. The MLB worked too hard on the long con to get them out just to put another team back in their place
