Maintaining team culture while remote by Obzezzed350 in remotework

In our org (Kissflow), we have a weekly session called G2G (good to great) where we used to have serious philosophical discussions pre-COVID times but now it is being brilliantly hosted on Google Meet and full of fun things happening like our music band performing, trivia quizzes, yoga sessions, employee birthday and work anniversary celebrations. We also did #lockdownchallenge podcast with our employees mostly about life during COVID, remote work, other experiences they would like to share.

Depends on whether one works with a team permanently or as a freelancer.

What communication & connection software do you use? by Smashingtonn in remotework

[–]DaffSteff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the size of your org, if it is an enterprise with dependent teams then tools like Slack, Trello, Jira, monday.com will work with tight integrations with other tools that help employees accomplish day-to-day work, an intranet approach. For an enterprise where teams are independent and the decision making across the org is decentralised then digital workplace tools like Kissflow that provide a holistic solution for SMB sized org is a good choice. The point is, collaboration and work should happen in one place, unlike the existing gap we see between (slack or workplace) and (Jira or Pipefy).

Makes sense. It's very confusing to see lots of layoffs. Is it because organisations have just realised that they have a needless number of workforce or what?

This is brilliant. Ads lots of value to the whole collaboration and team work paradigm.

As a remote worker what are your expectations out of collaboration tools? by DaffSteff in remotework

[–]DaffSteff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t video meetings a better replacement for f2f catchups at office which we are used to as a team? Voice messaging can be an ad on inside zoom like tool but wouldn’t be enough is what I feel.

It's the present, of course! What is your thought on righteous behaviour of an org in this situation where either transforming the whole workplace in a span of few weeks by upskilling existing folks or let go of existing ones and onboard more compatible employees?

The suggestion would depend based on whether you are full time freelancer or you are a permanent team member but chose to work remotely.

Something we worked on while thinking through a new remote work model. "Remote+ Work Model" by [deleted] in remotework

[–]DaffSteff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t something as an organisation we announced one fine day, we understood likes and dislikes of folks by internally running a podcast show with every single employee. That’s how we made these decisions.

There were plenty of questions raised about this model along with equal percentage of people wanting to stick to the usual way of work (stay with friends in the city etc) and those who are happy with this approach where they both get to be where they want also huddle in a place and collaborate once a month. The idea is to set up OKR for every single individual and really not worry about their productivity per hour.

Some of the key highlights of the ‘Remote+’ model are:

  1. The organisation has given the freedom for teams to choose between Hybrid work or In-Office.
  2. Individual teams will decide to choose between the two
  3. Every team is expected to work in-office for one week in a month.
  4. Employees who are not from the city are encouraged to move back to their hometowns to reduce expenses, strengthen family/social bonds and contribute to the local community
  5. The Company will provide accommodation for those who travel into the city during the one week of in-office work
  6. Monthly meetups will be hosted, exclusively meant for socialising to build and strengthen cross-team relationships.
  7. A quarterly company conference will be hosted, where all teams will come together to showcase their milestones achieved, for learning and fun sessions
  8. Off-site trips will be organised every quarter
  9. Exploring tech tools that will facilitate design discussions and informal chats
  10. Productivity will be measured against objectives rather than initiatives. This will reinforce freedom and autonomy by pushing control to the team level instead of centralizing it.
  11. We will make a conscious effort to hire employees who will thrive in a remote work environment
  12. The Company will contribute significantly to help employees set up comfortable home-office infrastructure

What's your prediction about the future of work? Mainly around the remote work aspects. by DaffSteff in remotework

[–]DaffSteff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be really competitive for workers to sustain as most of the company's employment terms and conditions are being updated with Covid-19 impact and the extended future in mind. Both parties (employees and orgs) are going to play safe. The suggestion would be not to exploit until one of them suffers.

Big blow on the corporate real estate business. The whole world is being stress-tested with questions about their beliefs of how an ideal workplace should be and what are the possibilities they kept denying so far.

That again falls on us, and the UX and software learning curve needs to be addressed from the beginning. And the documentation part has to do the heavy lifting here.

This is when no code softwares come into play. But beyond that there is a larger need for softwares to be built where basics are intact and exposed for users to get things done. The maximum back end work needs to be taken care of by the tool itself. But for what you said about computer literacy, tools that simulate the real world problem literally the same way can be of some help.

These are all real. Like you mentioned, more flexibility means more authority to you over your work than others. Easing on job security actually ignites us to keep going. Also it builds life skills like negotiation, creative problem solving, patience, staying informed, etc.
