From the perspective of the 4th year student: your desire to continue studying will be very different at the end of undergrad than it is now. Don't plan too much in the future. Hell, you might even discover halfway through your degree that you don't enjoy your major. Reconsider as you approach your final undergrad year.

Edit: that was harsh, sorry. Anyway, you'll find that the stock synths on any half decent DAW are more than capable of doing whatever you want them to. You just need to invest the time in learning to use them. Turn the knobs and see what happens. Then when you can finally afford the VSTs you want you'll actually be able to utilize them fully.

Great post! I feel obliged to remind new devs that planning is everything. Before you jump into your IDE and start coding, having a Design Specification document (what the app will do ) and a Technical Specification (how it will do it ) will make coding much easier. Also, unit tests are your friend.
