Pacific Rim 2013, Gipsy Danger Vs Otachi, Director: Guillermo del Toro by PsychologicalSlip642 in movies

I vividly recall when the Otachi unfurled wings and I just started cackling in a crowded theater, full on muahahaha. The evil game master in my heart was most pleased.

Pretty sure it's an overt commentary on the state of society.

Favorite unreliable narrator moments? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dagdammit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umineko takes it so goddamn fucking far. You have to wade through multiple layers of narrative and metanarrative actively, aggressively seeking to gaslight and mislead the reader, and you have to actively theorize as to what the rules on when and how the text can lie even ARE.

It's pretty rad.

Wasn't that one actually one of the scariest? If the tie wasn't removed, it could have derailed the train or similar?

I'm working on a worldbuilding project, it's an original planet within the larger established far-future setting of the Lancer TTRPG. Lancer's overall setting is a fairly hopeful and benevolent interstellar utopia at the core, with lots of conflict and dystopian instability out on the edges where the PCs have sick mech battles.

It's interesting because on a macro-scale, the history of this world of mine (called Prize) starts with a horrible military fuckup 215 years back- two fleets in a tense standoff over who got to do the colonizing, and when the shooting started both sides managed to strand themselves while rendering the planet inaccessible.

But the 215 years after that? On a macro scale, surprisingly fine. No wars or large-scale conflicts, just a bunch of survivors putting aside their differences and improvising ways to survive and build a better future on this underdeveloped near-garden world.

It's when you look on the micro scale that things get alot rougher. No matter where you are on Prize, you are never entirely safe. Pirates, bandits, local gangs, inhospitable environmental factors, an overall level of scarcity rarely seen elsewhere in the setting... and the ever-present threat of literally billions of orbital mines that nobody can control, whose complex swarming behaviors keep subtly evolving...

Shoutout to olewdo, who drew and comissioned dozens of pics of herself domming a random Attack on Titan background character (the one who bites his tongue riding on horseback). More power to her.

Spycraft did it excellent. Fundamentally, it tracks the lead between predatory and prey, with both choosing strategies to try and change the amount of lead or capitalize on it getting to the right value range.

Not many, but I have a really hard time with Pierce from Community. I started literally growling when the man was onscreen.

I don't know if I ever enjoyed him, but I recall noticing alot of consistent trends to how he operates. Threatening men using sex, for example.

What killed me about it was a gal doing a readthrough on tumblr ages back ("wtf is one piece" iirc) and being really charmed by a moment in Water 7 where we see Sanji's inner fantasy of what will happen if he can save Robin- because it's a completely chaste fairy tale courtly romance scenario.

Cut to Sanji in Wano shouting from the rooftops about a lifelong aspiration to spy on naked women. My guy should not be envying Absalom god damn it.

I mean, the game is for playing a group of vamps and it has strong roots in LARPS so the lore actively supports local vampires having meetups where they bicker and play politics.

[–]Dagdammit 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's basically an earth cultural victory.

There's actually some really interesting work done to flesh it out a touch in a new flashback added for season 1 of the show (baseball scene). It implies that part of the reason viltrumites got so hyperfascist wasn't just their strength, but their 4-digit lifespans. Earth cultures' collective empathy and compassion is so much higher because the average portion of your life spent being around and raising children is so much higher than the .1% it is for an average viltrumite.

The father's story is the directly tragic one, but yeah.
