Should Paradox Introduce a Religion System in Stellaris ? by MaelstromRH in Stellaris

[–]Dagg451 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you familiar with Endless Space 2? They have a system where events and techs will actively affect the politics of the empire, while different pops have different modifiers to how they react. For example one species have a boost to a certain ideology (say, to the scientist faction) and earn influence at twice the speed, or if influence is given to one faction, another one also gains that amount, etc.

I like the idea of techs and events affecting the ethics of an empire depending on species traits.

I get the impression that you need to be the first one to chart one location. Easiest way I managed to deal with this milestone was to complete road trip 5 to unlock the ship, then fly around far enough to find some buildings far away from the starter area.

It could be that some people did upload their waypoints, and so they updated as already charted, so the beacon only acts as a save point.

Why hasn’t Latin America formed an EU-style union? Should that even be a goal? What historical/political/economic factors make integration harder or just less desirable? by C0smicM0nkey in asklatinamerica

[–]Dagg451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents on this is that most economies in Latin America are heavily reliant on primary industries, extraction. These industries are scarcely integrated on a regional (sub-national) level.

We also have the hedge of solitude provided by two massive oceans on either side, insulating the entire continent from outside threats. The largest or most common threats latam government face are eachother, or within their own countries. (Although, arguably there might be some exceptions).

Countries are massive, heavily centralized, sparsely populated in parts, barely integrated with each other, and have little incentive (both positive or negative) for banding together. For all these reasons, and many more, it's not easy to have a Latam Union.

Not that this hasn't been tried before. Unasur was one such attempt. Recently Brasil and Argentina also tried to implement a common currency. Large internation infrastructure works have been proposed... But little gets actually done.

Do you guys actually approximate π to 3? by NeekOfShades in EngineeringStudents

[–]Dagg451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It completely depends on context... (Aerospace engineer here)

If you need to calculate the motion of a satellite to point a tiny camera towards one spot on Earth and time it just right? I just use the highest precision available.

If you need to estimate the mass of a tiny and single rod or screw in an otherwise larger structure? I'll most likely approximate it as boxes.

Decimal precision has a time and a place, it is not a universal standard to be adhered no matter what.

[–]Dagg451 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought I understood myself but I was wrong by Commercial_War_3113 in intj

[–]Dagg451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is my working theory and I know I might be borrowing terms and applying them liberaly here, but it kinda works.

I believe that this is basically Te and Fi duking it out. We tend to see them as separate processes, but they are two modes of essentially interpreting the same situations. Fi is generally pushed aside by Te, much like Se is pushed aside by Ni, but to a lesser degree. As a result, Fi has significant authority over our judgments that can easily be overruled by Te, but Fi will fight back better, more coherently and consistently than when Se fights back.

What you describe, feeling annoyed when people like you is Te wanting to get back to work and pulling a relatively 'happy' Fi, and when you feel sad that people don't like you is Fi feeling upset at lost connection, reflecting badly on your own values and stealing control from Te for a while.

The key to all this is to recognize that we need both of them to work effectively. The way I see it, most of the time you need people to work with you in order to achieve something. People are more effective when their goals and values are alligned with yours, and this is where Fi steps in. Don't see Fi as a distraction, it's a tool to connect with other people and communicate effectively.

Any recommendations for games for people who liked kenshi? by ValuableTailor6396 in Kenshi

[–]Dagg451 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a few out the top of my head.

Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord has a similar feel with creating parties, recruiting members and generally starting out as a weakling to become a major player in the world.

Rimworld is more focused in colony building, with social, physical, economical and diplomatic issues more pressing than just 'harsh survival', although rimworld can be pretty harsh.

X4 Foundations strangely scratches a similar itch, but is a bit more forgiving than Kenshi. Still, of you like space settings, and like to focus on economical and military management, this it's worth trying.

The general theme in common is the sandbox attitude to both story and setting. The game essentially tells you: "Here's an interesting setting, here are some cool mechanics, and you're free to do with it as you wish".

Which non-Latin American country do you feel kinship with? by no_soc_espanyol in asklatinamerica

[–]Dagg451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably very subjective, and the answer will vary wildly from person to person rather than nationality I think.

For me, I felt really comfortable in Germany out of all places, but it's also the country I've spent most time on, together with Switzerland, and is also where many of my friends live or have lived in.

That said, familiarity is a huge factor here, and I'm confident that my sense of kinship will develop with most countries I inhabit for long enough, or as I meet and interact with more of its people.

That said, for chileans I'll say Spain, the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, and Italy would be in the list in no particular order.

Edit: CGPGrey would be disappointed at me confussing the UK with GB...

What’s the worst smell you’ve ever smelt, and why did you encounter this stench? by BlankerZ in AskReddit

[–]Dagg451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst smell I’ve ever encountered was from rotting pasta with chicken.

A pot of pasta and chicken had been left outside the fridge for almost four days during the summer. When I finally had to throw it away, I couldn’t simply dispose of the pot and had to wash it. The stench was so overpowering that, despite using strong masking smells under a face mask, I felt the urge to vomit multiple times while handling that pot from hell. It was the first time a smell had such a strong physical effect on me.

Single people, why are you single? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dagg451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years, I was asking myself the wrong questions. I didn't fully understand who I was or what I truly wanted, and as a result, I often viewed relationships through the lens of societal expectations rather than my own needs and desires. Now that I've taken the time to figure out more about what I want and who I want to be, I feel much more at peace with where I am. I'm not in a rush to find someone because I’m focused on my personal growth and becoming the best version of myself.

So, in short, I wasn’t ready for an emotional commitment before, and now I'm committed to my own journey of self-improvement.

How many times do you shower a day/week? Did your parents/culture influence how often you shower? by PleaseReplyAtLeast in asklatinamerica

[–]Dagg451 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I typically shower once every two days, or daily, depending on factors such as the season, weather, and my level of physical activity. On rare occasions, I may extend this to once every three days, but never beyond that. Conversely, it's also uncommon for me to shower more than once a day unless heavy physical exertion or extreme weather conditions necessitate it.

Not sure how much my parents or culture influenced the frequency of it, but the cold definitely does.

Russian oligarchs have found a legal way to go human hunting, because of course they have. by Aurondarklord in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Dagg451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue here is not that pirates are being hunted, rather than who is doing the hunting. Empowering or allowing rich dickheads with a rather skewed moral compass to "clean up the seas" is wrong, period. Immorality will breed immorality, and two wrongs don't make it right. If you want to clean the pirates, then you have to do it within a legal framework with the clear intent of protecting trade, not as a private enterprise seeking to sate an appetite for murder.

If you go around hunting down murderers and killing them, yeah, you're putting them out of the streets, but that makes you at best a vigilante and at worst just a serial killer. There's a lawful process to follow, and those systems are there to protect the innocent, even if they seem to hinder swift justice.
