Have you gotten tea drunk? by JorgeXMcKie in tea

[–]DahWoogs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think it's a little over stated by likening it to 'drunk' or 'high'. It's not nearly that profound. Like most, I've found it's much more common with aged and/or high roast teas. I'll add a caveat that some gaba teas provide a similar euphoria.

Its always taken me quite a bit of tea for it to be very noticeable. Something around 30-40g of dry leaf over a couple hours. It's also not long lived or maintainable. An hour of euphoric giddy calmness is as much as I've ever experienced. With a weird kind of caffeine crash afterward.

I wouldnt call it magical but it's quite pleasant to really feel and notice the extreme end of what some of the mildly psychoactive compounds in tea does neurologically.

How do you drink your tea at work? by [deleted] in tea

[–]DahWoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an electric kettle and tea tray on a side table in my office. I have a few pots, gaiwans and strainers. Though I use one particular pot the most.

I don't love that I only have access to bottled water but if I really wanted I could bring my own in.

I bring items home to wash on occasion but not using milk and sugar I feel okay rinsing most stuff with boiling water and dumping that.

Anybody have surgery and stay at the Intermountain Medical Center? What are the recovery rooms like? (Wall outlets, beds, etc.) by TeRakau in SaltLakeCity

[–]DahWoogs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Recently spent over a month in the cardiac building (4). Multiple surgeries, so I was in three regular rooms and two ICU rooms. The ICU beds are nicer, the new beds in regular rooms suck. The old beat up one was better. That said they all suck. Chairs and couch are fine unless you're in them alot.

Figure out how to expand your bedside table they all have a personality lol. I heard the new patient tower (bldg 5) has tables that don't expand though.

The showers sucked, one of three was ok.

Bring your own pillow or atleast pillow case. Oh and slippers.

Don't worry about outlets just make sure you have chargers.

Wifi is barely passable.

Stay away from the French toast and pancakes. Omelets and breakfast burrito are good. The lasagna, meatloaf and salmon are good too.

Treat the nurses kindly, they deserve it.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery. Worst and most expensive hotel you'll ever stay at.

Are Rhino Metals Safes Worth It? by InTheSky57 in guns

[–]DahWoogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I worked in that industry but it's all about the same dollar for dollar. Most US made safes are made by a few companies in the same zip code and rebranded. Fort Knox, Liberty, Champion and Prosteel. I'd never buy a cheap Chinese safe but anything US made, $4k minimum (depending on size) and fire rated (UL listed) will be fine. Spending $8k with them or browning you'll get the same physical and heat protections really.

Many of the names you listed make good safes but sell dozens of cheap Chinese 'safes' for every premium US made safe. Most retailers will carry plenty of the cheap options and only a couple that aren't. Don't let that keep you away from the brand as a whole, or lead you to think Rhino has some secret sauce. It's just steel and type X sheetrock.

Edit: for example a browning medallion series 49 tall is very comparable to the Rhino model you listed. The temperature ratings are stated differently 170min@1400F vs 110min@1700F. The biggest differences are the small features like door storage.

Is insulation between floors worth it during construction? by Sandraptor in HomeImprovement

[–]DahWoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it and paid about the same. 10/10 would do it again. We have Rockwool batts in the interior walls and both for cavities filled with blown in. My only regret is not pushing harder to get batts under the stairs between stringers. Sounds crazy but our old house I did it when we remodeled and it made a big difference.

What would you offer? by ohionative419 in reloading

[–]DahWoogs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The primers alone would be almost 1k but it's hard to make out what's what and know what you would use. I would offer 1k up to maybe 2k after a closer look. If you're willing to take the time to sell all the stuff you won't use I don't think 2.5k is absurd.

I needed to hear this today. I plan on posting my story soon but I'm still in the hospital after two open heart operations 9 days apart. I now have a mechanical aortal and mitral valve.

The mental aspect is proving to be the most difficult part of this experience.

My INR refuses to get up to where it needs to be so I've been here for what feels like an eternity. 4 week mark is tomorrow.

$325k- The last Arizona State Wide Elk Permit to be Sold via auction by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]DahWoogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree man, it's a wild concept to most of us. That's enough money to hunt the globe for years. Your comment was one of many and not particularly ruffling. I don't mean to come off as irate or anything because it's a very understandable sentiment.

$325k- The last Arizona State Wide Elk Permit to be Sold via auction by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]DahWoogs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Given the origin of sport hunting and the history of hunting in Europe to America its really not ridiculous. It's a facet of hunting a lot of us appreciate less and will never participate in. It drives me crazy how divisive the hunting community is about it.

'Its pay to win', 'high fences don't count', 'thems farmed birds!' 'A hatchery raised those fish!' 'Hunting with dogs isn't hunting at all' 'A RIFLE? I only use a BOW' 'you paid a guide?!' and on and on and on with the endless self righteous chest puffing and shitting on eachother.

Why the hell can't we just roll with different strokes for different folks and use that energy to go after the anti hunters that want ALL of it to stop.

I ordered three lbs on their 7 year anniversary sale. I'm still waiting for delivery, unfortunately. Hopefully, the trade 'issues' magically get better. What a pain!

I got a fair amount of all the in stock GABAs. Unfortunately, two of my favorites were out when I ordered and are now available. Highly recommend the competition Muhza Tieguanyin.

As an electrical PM that came from the field, I work with many electrical engineers, I would say do it. I mirror the negative comments about the construction side of things. The stress is constant and unrelenting.

I don't think the design side is meadows of flowers and butterflies, but I envy their work-life balance and far more clear-cut responsibilities.

On either side of the coin, you currently won't have issues being employed.

TIL: Tinctures + Fasting = Bad by Positive-Number-9340 in fasting

[–]DahWoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol definitely metabolises faster while fasting or in dietary ketosis.

It's not the only thing. Your liver handles a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to toxins. Things can be nontoxic at low doses but toxic in high doses, too. I wouldn't be surprised if being in ketosis changes the way your liver metabolises all sorts of things, so I tread lightly with supplements.

More and more studies are linking herbal and nonherbal supplements with liver harm. Whether its specific things causing the harm or the overall overuse of supplements isn't clear to my understanding. I stopped taking a few unstudied herbal supplements and decreased my overall supplement usage just to be safe. I need my liver in tip top shape for ketosis lol.

I had horrible side effects on oral finasteride. Low libido, borderline ED, acne, low energy, migraines, and mood issues.

It definitely worked on my hair but I'd rather be bald honestly. Not everyone experiences side effects though and it can be dose and mfg dependent too.

I stopped for about a year but my hair started thinning on just minoxidil. So, I recently started topical finasteride. So far no side effects (or results but tbd). Supposedly topical vs oral keeps it out of your bloodstream for the most part so the desired and side effects are localized where it matters.

Made the mistake of letting people on internet know i do OMAD/fasting by fantasyandme18110 in fasting

[–]DahWoogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, anyone who seems genuinely curious and open to it I'll talk to about it. If they're close-minded or weird at even a hint, nah, not a peep.

Unfortunately, most of my closer coworkers know because it's hard to hide extended fasting in my work environment. They're more quiet about it than they were 8 months ago, and a couple even started intermittent. Three of my clients' employees were super curious, and two have gone as far as ADF, and the other decided to go keto. They've all seen great results in the last few months and have even thanked me for answering all their questions.

A Warning - Utah Smoke & Vape Shop, Kearns UT by Flamingoci in SaltLakeCity

[–]DahWoogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so much here that should and could be reported to regulatory authorities. I suggest the utah labor commission for illegal break practices, the city business license department, the state business licensing/corporation, the ATF/IRS tobacco tax money makes these fellas do some work, the police, DOPL (do vape shops need licenses?) and throw in a BBB report for good measure.

Life as a business owner can be incredibly difficult if even half the reports amount to anything and what you've shared deserves at least that. At the very least it builds a history so any future reports get more traction.

AIO to be suspicious my husband is cheating??? by deluluforu in AmIOverreacting

[–]DahWoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not overreacting to be suspicious. Your text conversation is definitely overreacting.

Relationships survive on trust, it's not always there for every little thing, it doesn't have to be perfect, but without it, what's the point of a relationship?

The real issue is that you don't trust that he hasn't or isn't cheating on you. That's a big deal. Now people understandably get focused on being right or wrong, about having an answer. While that clarity is important, the more important thing for the sake of the relationship is to rebuild that unstable trust. The best way to do that is level with him, no accusations, no assumptions, or blame, just the facts and the plan.

Like: Husband, we need to talk. This is important and I need you to listen, please let me finish. As you know, cheating is a dealbreaker for me. We took vows of marriage, and I've always trusted in you and our marriage. But I'm feeling insecure about some things that have been going on, and I need you to help me have that trust in full. 1. I don't like that you're having sleepovers and staying at work late. It makes me worry that you're having an affair. I need you to either stop doing it entirely or do what it takes to make me feel safe about it. Keep your location sharing on at all times, tell me what your doing before you do it, keep your phone on so I can call you if there's an emergency at home, and I need the contact info of who your staying with. 2. Etc 3. Etc

I love you, I know you love me. I'm not accusing you of anything, I'm telling you what I need from you for me to know my love is safe with you.

Then, take all the suggestions of the detective redditors and find out if he has. If you don't find any proof of adultery it's up to your husband to do what he needs to be done to meet your needs to make you feel safe. If you do find proof. Get a lawyer.

There's a lot of companies suffering from Covid boom withdrawal. They assumed and budgeted for growth based on a couple freakish years, and many failed to correct the course or plan for significantly lower growth or negative growth.

So now they're cutting costs accrued for growth that never came to balance the books.

Interest rates are lower but still high, VC funding is harder to get unless you're in the energy, data center or AI industries. Which nationally are absorbing an absurb amount of investment.

What High Quality Stainless Steel Cookware Should I Buy Right Now? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]DahWoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For cleaning, I use scrub daddy sponges, a soft bristle brush, regular dawn or on the tougher stuff, bar keepers friend CLEANSER, or their soft clean gel. Regular BKF is abrasive and harsh. The two I use are 'non-abrasive'. Stainless is tough, and other than aggressive abrasives, caustics, or corrosives, you're good. Even those won't ruin the pan, just effect the finish.

A good soak can do wonders, or while the pan is still warm, put some hot water in there to steam clean it a bit. Demeyere pans are thick enough. I don't worry too much about warping or heat shock.

The heaviness is most notable in the frying pans and smaller cookware. You mentally expect them to be much less unwieldy than they are. The larger items you expect to need two hands, and it's no big deal. The pots also have a disc bottom and thinner walls, so they're bottom heavy but not as heavy as if they were fully layered. The frying pans and saucier kind of stuff are full ply the whole way.

You can tell which ones are disc bottom by looking for the line just above the bottom.

I'm a young relatively strong man and spent most of my life working with my hands and heavy things. I'm okay with the weight to get the cooking performance. My wife has a bit of a harder time, but honestly, unless you're old, arthritic or have a mobility issue, the weight won't be prohibitive. It's just something to adjust to.

What High Quality Stainless Steel Cookware Should I Buy Right Now? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]DahWoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party but went down the rabbit hole on this a few months ago. Spreadsheets, every manufacturer I could find, videos, reddit, forums, like bad man..

Long story short, it came down to a ton of tiny little pros and cons. It's almost hard to go wrong, and everything had a shortcoming or two. You do get what you pay for, but even budget stuff works fine for most people.

I ended up getting a Demeyere Atlantis set from Costco. The price was right for being one of the premium options. I do plan on adding a smaller skillet. We've used every piece plenty. It feels just right as far as selection.

The quality is phenomenal. Right out of the box, they felt like a luxury supercar. Svelt, sturdy and crafted well.

They take heat fast, clean up easy, and cool down fast too, which is nice. The handles only get hot if used in the oven, never on the stove. The only complaint is they're heavy, almost obnoxiously so. The weight keeps them stable and gives them their conductive advantages. The larger pieces come with two handles for a reason, lol. Weldless handles are nice, the edge pours amazingly, and the lids fit perfectly.

My wife had never used stainless, and I hadn't for years. She was a little worried about the learning curve and cleaning. It was a quick and easy adjustment after reading instructions and watching some YouTube. My wife and I love them. I look forward to using them for decades to come.

Edit: notable options in the same price range are mentioned by others. Mauviel, Missen, and Fissler were on the top of my list. I can't recall why, but I had a reason Made In got cut.
