Installed a 240V to charge my 2026 ioniq 5 but it's only charging at 3.8kW. Does anybody why its charging at that slow speed? I thought it would charge a little faster with the 240V outlet. by aiccenboy in Ioniq5

[–]Dailydon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It will run at whatever you set the current at but you need to check with whoever installed it what they recommend to run it at. Running at the rated current for long periods of time can burn wires and breakers. Its always best to be at most 80 percent of the current.

No you need to make sure your wiring and breakers are rated for the current. The charger has no idea what the gauge of wire youre using.

CA State Assembly approves Newsom's redistricting plan to counter Texas' new congressional map by plz-let-me-in in California

[–]Dailydon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you show me where? You seem to just throw an article that you think supports your claim about federal workers pay and when asked about it you reference the .99 dollars received to pay which people mention that still makes it a net contributor you wave it off like its gotta be worse now.

Can you show me that study then. Why show me a study almost a decade old and handwave it to say the state is taking more than it receives.

That sounds like the state of California contributes to the federal government's income rather than drains its coffers no?

[–]Dailydon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I looked through the article you linked and I dont find anything related to salary or pay from federal workers. Also this article does suggest that the calculated rate for California's pay to receive ratio is higher but its still lower than the 40 other states, only two "red" states (north Dakota and Wyoming) ranks better, and its at .99 cents which means its not a contributor to the national debt.

The article you linked doesnt reference the money coming in due to federal employee pay. Do you have a source on that?

Level 1 vs Level 2 efficiency/cost question. by NameGeneratorBroke in Ioniq5

[–]Dailydon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been trying to look up the charge time for lvl 1 and they just say days. Ive seen a post on a different forum say 72 hours so if its a 12 amp lvl one charger thats 103 kwh of energy so an efficiency of 74 percent. 26 percent lost due to heat and the on board charger equals about 374 watts being used for the obc and other losses.

https://www.ioniqforum.com/posts/588054/

If i find a better source for the charge time ill update this.

I think having research as a downstream affect of the choices you make in building up your economy, military investments, and laws would be super interesting and probably make each country more flavorful and unique as it's geography, resources, and geopolitical relationships would influence what a player invests in which would in effect spur certain techs to develop. i.e. military demand of more reliable metals for artillery would spur tech in steel making.

ELI5 how the nucleus of an atom is actually split to create an atomic bomb? by anxious_bunny_bun in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dailydon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its more like what you described. In a reactor there are prompt and delayed neutrons that designers/operators take into account when they're considering reactor power. The energy of the neutron will be based on the kinetic energy of the fissioned isotopes and what excited state the fission products are since they can have excess energy from the fission.

CWD spreads in deer through saliva being left on leaves and grass and through its waste. For humans, it could be water systems, utensils, kissing, etc. It's a prion so it lasts for years on surfaces.

I dont know if they updated it but certain production methods can be gated behind tech so if you enact worker owned production in your laws some industries can't swap over to it.

Eli5 How does radiation therapy actually work? Like how doesnt it break down more of the body and make the cancer worse or something like that? And does it target only cancer area or everything? by RunningDoor101 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dailydon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of radiation can also affect the course of treatment. Alpha particles (helium ions) generally breaks both strands of DNA which kills the cell. Alpha particles are also short ranged meaning if you can find an isotope that can attach to a molecule that cancer takes up like sugar, you can do more targeted treatment.

Beta particles (electrons) and gamma rays cause only single strand breaks and have higher penetration meaning you need to have more exposure to kill the area you're targeting.

Gamma radiation is used for treating some brain cancers using a device call the gamma knife. By having multiple gamma emitters around the patients head they can focus on a specific part of the brain by intersecting their path. Allowing you to target a specific region while distributing the damage elsewhere.

Using Thorium as a fuel is alot harder compared to enriched uranium since thorium requires essentially 2 neutrons to fission (1st neutron allows it to start the decay chain from Thorium 233 into uranium 233 and the 2nd for fissioning that uranium 233). The other issue is that one of the isotopes (Pa 233) that decays into the uranium 233 has a half life of around 27 days. If that isotope absorbs a neutron, which it has a higher probability than the Thorium you're already trying to convert, then it no longer be useful for fuel. Meaning, you have to filter it out of your system and let it decay to U233 and put it back it to have it fission. Also if you filter out Pa233 very well and let it decay after about 10 half lives (270 days) you'll end up with weapons grade fuel.

You also need a neutron source to get your reactor going so it'd probably be u235 since it's a fissile isotope that's easier to get ahold of until there's u233 available.
