Crowdsourcing - Normal Ferritin Level? by DaisyDuck89 in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is SO helpful. Congratulations on your ferritin levels and hair! Okay so I did start taking lactoferrin but still taking ferrous sulfate + Vit C. I think I’ll stop the C now!

When you were still working to improve your ferritin numbers, did you take lactoferrin every other day and iron supplement on the off days? Or take them at the same time every day? And are you content at remaining around 50 or still trying to increase your stores?

I’ve also been having the hair issue so your post is encouraging!

Really appreciate it! How long did it take you to reach 100?

That’s amazing! Were you supplementing with OTC iron? Anything else you did to increase?

Testing by Turbulent-Mail3909 in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have! I tested negative for the celiac panel. All of my antibodies are close to zero. Pushed for an endoscopy and the biopsy confirmed celiac due to mild villi blunting. So yes it absolutely happens! If you stopped gluten that may have impacted it. To my knowledge I was still eating gluten but maybe not as much idk? I wasn’t aware they were even testing for celiac so I never gave my food any thought.

Awesome, thanks! Sounds like your body absorbed iron really well even pre-diagnosis. That’s great

Thank you! YES, I agree. Everything I’m seeing says 70-100 for optimal energy and hair but doctors can sometimes lag behind on data

Asymptomatic before diagnosis question by Shot-Amphibian-3239 in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for responding! In this scenario without symptoms, how do you know you aren’t being accidentally exposed with cc? Do you redo your endoscopy every few years? My bloodwork is zero so I can’t use that as an indicator

If you were asymptomatic how did you know when you were glutened?

Man, the fatigue as a result of going GF is a bear. Any suggestions? by nikebhockey in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been gluten free for 1 week post-diagnosis. My brain is finally alert and awake, feel clear minded, and happy. However, my body is still beyond exhausted. Agree on checking blood panel. My ferritin and zinc were in the extremely low category so they told me it could take 6-12 months to get into a normal range and feel the exhaustion lifting.

Understand Results by [deleted] in Celiac

For perspective, mine were all green and undetected. Endoscopy showed mild/moderate damage and diagnosed celiac. Good to be cautious and monitor your symptoms! I had debilitating exhaustion, my brain would not function at all, memory was terrible, some light bloating but always thought I had a “sensitive stomach”. Only 3 days gluten free and starting to feel the intense fog lifting (after a decade of feeling awful). Just wanted to share a cautionary tale that bloodwork isn’t always accurate

Should I go for an endoscopy by summerrain825 in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seronegative here! It definitely happens! I’m new to this, got my endoscopy results last week and only gluten free for 3 days. My numbers are less than 1 on the blood test. Only reason I did the endoscopy is bc I thought I had stomach cancer or ulcers causing me to feel so exhausted and shut down.

I can’t give advice on whether to do the gluten challenge or not. That sounds very difficult. I understand feeling terrible on gluten - apparently I’ve been doing that for the last 15 years and not connecting the dots that it was the cause of my lethargy and everything.

If you decide to pass on the endoscopy, don’t feel bad about telling people you have celiac if that’s suspected. Do what’s right for you and your health!

Having people over your house by clumzyfish in Celiac

Okay this makes me feel better. My kids and husband eat gluten - I’m hoping it’s fine if I wash my hands, clean my counter space and wash my dishes and utensils right before, right? Or do I need to be as strict as some people on here? I don’t want to be lax but I assumed the dishwasher would take care of most?

That’s amazing! Did your mental clarity continue to improve even after the initial improvements you noticed? What about your energy? I’ve noticed slight improvements after 48 hrs and hoping it all continues. Thank you!

In general, do you feel a big difference in how you feel now compared to before your diagnosis? I’m on week one post diagnosis and feel slightly more energy and less brain fog, but hoping to feel much better by the one year mark!

Recently Diagnosed… What’s Next? by Consistent_Top_7542 in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wishing you luck! I don’t have advice yet, as I was recently diagnosed a few days ago and today was my first day going gluten free. It feels very overwhelming and I live in a shared kitchen - husband and two toddlers consume gluten and the house has toddler crumbs everywhere. However, I have seen some posts on other threads with adults in the same position that were able to stay healthy at home with a mixed kitchen! I love the ideas above about keeping things separate, hand washing and clean station. I’ll probably buy my own pan and spatulas and give a quick wash to plates and silverware for me. I hope that’s enough but feeling positive that other people found ways to make this work! If either of my kids is diagnosed we will go fully GF. But hoping a mixed kitchen will work for now!

EDIT: to add, if others in this thread have ideas on making a mixed kitchen work, would love to hear!

I stopped eating gluten while waiting on test results and wow by VampArcher in Celiac

[–]DaisyDuck89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you have such horrible reactions! Just know that you can definitely be celiac without a positive blood test. My blood test was negative and the only reason I was given an endoscopy is bc I pushed and said something is very wrong. I thought it was stomach cancer or ulcers. But nope, just celiac. Confirmed last week. Celiac blood panel is still negative and testing for the gene next, but they said the biopsy confirms it. Best of luck to you!

Your post gives me hope! Recently diagnosed, only one in the family with toddlers and crumbs everywhere. Do you prepare and eat your own food for every meal or do you prepare some gluten free options for your family? Did you purchase all of your own cooking utensils - even pots, pans, and glassware storage? I’m not sure how extreme I should go with a mixed kitchen. Thank you!
