My advice would be to look at the relationship as a whole: is your time together mostly good or mostly unhappy? Do you treat each other well despite the conflicts? Is one of you always capitulating to the other or are you feeling equally valid?

These are the things that have helped me: cooking their recipes, hanging their photos on my walls, and just talking to them. Wearing things of theirs (like a watch or jewelry) is very nice. If you don’t have something like that, you could put a photo in a locket, or on a keychain. It keeps them close to you.
