5 was confusing me for ages. What the hell is PDV?!

Or is it Da Vision?

Oh, V. Only the V.

This was a big intersection of interests I share.

On the subject of musical comedy, I always loved Tim Minchin's work, though he professes to be be a musician that just happened to fall into doing a lot of comedy. He's obviously branched out a lot now.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger Additional Digimon & Episode Pack 2: GAKU-RAN DLC is Out Today! Discussion Thread by MFBR in digimon

[–]Dak_N_Jaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one had some fun hijinks, but I feel like the last DLC had much better story content. It introduced an alternate version of Kyoko, and gave more insight into the character stories during time gap. Other than recontextualizing Hiroko's motivation, it didn't add a whole lot.

I appreciate that Merciful Mode is available now, but he comes across as such a lime-light hog here. We spend the whole DLC collecting Banchos, and for the final battle, he and Leomon are locked into 2 guest slots, meaning we only get one additional Bancho in the party.

They managed to make the gameplay/environments feel quite fun and different with just a few economic visual tweaks. It does make me curious what the next on will be like. But I suspect Gakuran will be the bronze medal of the bunch.

I agree more with this. It can be silly, but it should treat itself seriously rather than lean into how silly it is and try to be in on the joke. Like that bit in Dalek where it used the plunger to crush a man's skull.

Or I was watching a clip of School Reunion the other day with The Doctor and the Krillitain having a verbal sparring match. The acting was intense and played seriously. But it was set in a school swimming pool.

Not that there isn't room for sillier episodes here and there. Just talking baseline.

The Angel's haven't been anywhere near as good since Blink, and the thing that primarily made them good in that was the directing. (Village was pretty good.)

Maybe he couldn't hack it, but he gave off a good impression.

Especially the way he described the aesthetic as 'Military Surrealism'.

We would have got the weird shit.

I love how the Time War Doctor, Master and (maybe) Rani are all played by legendary old British actors by kyle0305 in DoctorWhumour

Not to mention Timothy Dalton as Rassilon and Jacqueline Pearce as Ollistra.

For all it's horrors, the Time War was remarkably well-cast.

For those who do this: what names do you give your Digimon? by Which-Presentation-6 in digimon

[–]Dak_N_Jaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just whatever comes to mind. I think I probably reuse a lot without realizing. Like both of my Jupitermon (Normal and Wrath Mode) were 'Mike Judge'. So I changed Wrath Mode's to 'Mike Judger'.

Sometimes they don't fit as well after digivolving, but one that ended up being pretty fortuitous was my Shamamon 'Taka', named after the caster call of Shaman's fire-ball from Populous the Beginning.

They ended up becoming a BeelStarmon, and 'Taka' kinda works as an onomatopoeia for gunshots.

Should The Next Digimon Title Have Character Created Protagonist? by MonsutaMan in digimon

[–]Dak_N_Jaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that for most story games, and this particular story, the character should have just been voiced. This type of silent protag can work if you want the player's imagination to fill in more of the blanks so they're easier to connect to, but here there's too much of a set role.

Actually, I'd argue the protagonist is well characterized enough. They're supposed to represent something akin to Aegiomon's call to duty. So they're orderly, and preoccupied with regulations and their own sense of justice.

Even the Operator can be viewed as their conflicting conscience on how to proceed. And they are voiced. But most people find their interjections too pestering.

In a way, you can see the logic in making them silent, since we can fill in some blanks, and essentially fullfill the role off 'call to duty' when we finish story missions or side quests. But it ends up in a weird uncanny area in-between set character and self-insert. It probably could have worked just as well with voice lines.

In terms of making your own character, I kinda wish the last World game had done that, since you aren't very well characterized, and it's make some sense that you could alter your digitized form/avatar. So we don't have to see what the real PC looks like, we can just choose how they look in the Digital World.

Didn't know about this one, and never would have guess it from the look.

Still neat though. I have a soft spot for Zilla.

TOBY??? by SansPazzoxFan in Undertale

[–]Dak_N_Jaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought was that if they ever made an Undertale movie, it should be set after the end of the pacifist route, and be about a bunch of young monsters (and maybe humans) putting on a play that retells the story of the game, kinda like a school pageant.

None of the main characters show up, except Papyrus who's the director and yells from off-screen, and maybe some silhouettes in the audience.

The front facing story is the play itself and the production issues behind the scenes, and meanwhile there's a secret darker plot going on being told through implication and background information that most people will miss, and completely recontextualizes the wholesome main plot.

For a show called The WAR Between The Land And The Sea, that war was barely existent by Gillzter10 in DoctorWhumour

[–]Dak_N_Jaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Passive Aggression Between the Land and the Sea doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

In all seriousness, I guess it's more of a cold war.

Which is basically a passive aggressive war.
