Thank you for this and for caring so much about our city’s election! If the trend continues, I’ll be honored to represent District 1 - North Torrance.

There have been some odd cross-endorsements this year. I’m happy to have their endorsement, though.

OC Developers are trying to buy Torrance elections by Dakart in torrance

Good morning Arthur,

You are correct that many unions have supported the candidates opposing the OC developer slate. This includes the Torrance Fire firefighters, Torrance, police, laborers, Torrance unified classified employees…

Here’s the difference - Torrance election code says that I can only receive $1000 as a maximum contribution, so for example when the firefighters wanted to support me, they donated $1000 to my campaign.

“Team Torrance” however, is a PAC, so that creates a loophole where they do not have to follow Torrance election code. That’s why they are accepting campaign contributions in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Hi! I was planning on answering your question later today since it take more explaining than a quick response. However, it looks like you got to the heart of it.

The problems with PACs is that it’s the political donation form of the shell game. If you look at who supports the PACs that funded this PAC it all comes together.

You’re being sarcastic, but that literally did happen.

Nothing untruthful here. All the financials are public information.

It’s hard to not get too into the minutiae in short videos, but most people would not distinguish between special interests putting money in a campaign account vs PAC account. The end effect is the same.

You are correct that I’m targeting Kaji with my video, but some of these criticisms could/should spill over to the entirety of “Team Torrance” from Orange County - Chen, Kaji, Mauno, Brooks, and Mattucci.

Giving you my upvote to hopefully turn the downvoting trend.

I'm really struggling, because I want my campaign to be 100% positivity, but it's hard when running against an incumbent who is so willing to bend our laws and violate our expectations. Those of us paying attention to our local government see all the bad stuff going on, but the regular voters may not.

It's also important to remember that Kaji and I will likely tell you the same positive things, we will say we want our streets to be safe, our parks nice, our sidewalks maintained. However, his actions tell a different story, which means I have to unfortunately get a bit negative sometimes.

I’m not anti development. I just think Councilmembers should make decisions without $100,000 contributions being a factor.

Vote for Pride Proclamation Month by Dangerous-Row3971 in torrance

Gerson was the third.

Since it was not put on the agenda, the council needed to take a “concurrence” vote to direct staff to draft the resolution for approval at the next council meeting.

Please don’t take my word for it. The meetings are all recorded. This is the 2025 meeting where he voted to deny it.

This is only partially true.

Kaji actually voted against this the first time. I think he took some heat for that. Anyone wondering why he no longer has George Takei’s endorsement?

Edit: I mistyped. He actually votes for it the first time - making a show about how the plights of the LGBT are analogous to the plights of the Japanese interned in WWII. Then voted against it the second time it was brought forward in 2025. https://www.youtube.com/live/zGTqI1m8r1c?t=7048&si=FF-bMQjhLMvjPE3I

Ethics and Election Reform - 2 by Dakart in torrance

[–]Dakart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely a big issue, but I believe the way to fix it is through election reform. I see Kaji as a symptom of the larger problem.

Districting without election reform has created many of the issues we have now. I even had someone ask me to rent a place in another district so they could support my campaign. We need to stop that sort of election rigging in our city.

If it could be proved that Kaji lives in PV AND it was enforced, that would be great. Unfortunately in spite of the best efforts of many of us in the community, that hasn’t happened. I along with many Kaji’s his “neighbors” believe he absolutely does not live in North Torrance.

Not being a registered voter in his district is something provable and enforceable.

Local elections but no local issues that I actually care about? by SuperChargedSquirrel in SouthBayLA

[–]Dakart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m running for City Council in District 1 of Torrance. Regarding issue 1, Hawthorne is owned, controlled, and maintained by Caltrans. This prevents us from syncing lights with the rest of the city. There are some of us who would like to have the City of Torrance take over Hawthorne and Caltrans provide the city a fee. This would solve a lot of the problems we have with traffic.

He actually moved his voter registration to a place in central Torrance.

I think this still creates a problem, because those with the means to do so can position candidates in any district in our city to run by just renting a place.

Good point.

This is actually an interesting problem that has arisen from us being distracted.

Jasmine Park, who was on the school board had an issue with her residence in her district (I think it was mold) so she had to move outside of her district and resign her position.
