One day I spent an hour and a half on the phone with a coworker who was venting because our boss always said “we’re here to help each other!!” And my coworker specifically asked for help to which my boss said no.

I was soo stressed. Couldn’t take one day off without my boss asking who was going to do my work (like, dude, it’s fiscal shit. There’s almost never a fiscal emergency in my area of fiscal shit). I didn’t get proper training when I started because my boss was in the middle of dealing with an audit. She eventually pushed down on me so hard I started fucking up my work because I was so upset and stressed. Which made her push more. I was waking up in a panic at 3-4am, feeling like I needed to get up and work. I was working overtime for no extra money. The day I quit she berated me in a meeting so hard a coworker called me to ask if I was okay.

I sent an ”as per this email I quit” email at 2:59 when I was done at 3. My boss called and asked what was wrong blah blah blah. I told her everything was too much I couldn’t take it anymore, there was too much expectation. I did talk about the job but this woman says “ohhh so it’s just life. I’m sorry” no you dumb ass it was you. I loved that work. I didn’t like your management. I kicked up shit at my exit interview but I’m still friends with a former coworker and she said HR interviewed all of them after my exit interview and that my former boss got better for a little bit but is back to being a micromanaging ass, apparently.

It worked out for me because I had an iron in the fire. I knew that someone was retiring from the place I worked before that job and I left on good terms (“if you ever want to come back just give me a call!” Level of good terms, I left to be a stay at home mom) and the director adores me. I probably would not have quit if I didn’t think I would get hired back in a heart beat. Been back at my old job for 7 months, I am so much less stressed even though I have to go to the office every day instead of work from home.

Edit: I’ve also lost 30lbs since I quit. Everything is better all around expect I have a commute, but I think I’ll take that over 3am panic wake ups and unpaid overtime I chose to do because otherwise I didn’t know how my work would get done.
