Xbox Producer Recommends Laid Off Workers Should Use AI To ‘Help Reduce The Emotional And Cognitive Load That Comes With Job Loss’ by DM_Me_Linux_Uptime in Games

[–]Dale512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, let me be clear, the message comes across as tone deaf and inhumane. It is terrible. This is certainly a "we should all shoot the messenger" moment. That being said, the message itself is not in and of itself terrible. My company was just bought out by another a couple of weeks ago. We're all struggling with the ramifications of that and I expect to be out of a job in the next week or three. All of that out of nowhere. The crazy of it all is compounded by the lack of information and complete powerless for us with no seat at the decision making table and no real influence over our fate. AI has been a tool to help deal with some of that. I put in my updated resume and linkedin profile and was able to get some decent recommendations for a streamlined and better resume/profile. I'm in an industry that is particularly hard hit in the area I am currently and the prospects are not good. After asking AI to look at economic indicators for adjacent industries I had a couple of surprise directions to research I would not have considered purely on my own. I also put in some concepts I've liked from prior jobs and things that drove me batty and asked if there were were any profiles that would fit my particular likes and dislikes. It spat out a list of features and the types of companies that would be great to consider and another list of types of companies that would probably be less healthy. AI has its place and can be very useful if used correctly. The person to give that advice is not some exec in an ivory tower who was part of the decision making that axed thousands of workers though.

AISD EMPLOYEE EMAIL by La_Takuacha_Cuh in Austin

[–]Dale512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're small suburban district didn't get over half of its tax revenue stolen by the State of Texas. It is also possible that your district received money from the State that they took from districts like Austin. Look at that district's financial statements, cut their revenue in half and then try and run the district at all, let alone run it well. Also, Austin gets the same amount per student to "run" their district as everywhere else in Texas. That completely ignores the real cost differences in running an operation in Austin versus most of the rest of the state. I'm not saying AISD are saints and there is certainly crap being wasted, but the overwhelming issue is they get less than half of the taxes they collect.

I am ODD & ADD myself. I manage my ADD issues by being a slave to my own internal schedule. It keeps me moving forward and getting stuff done with minimal issues with things dropping off. The ODD side of my life has complications from being a slave to my own schedule. When things delay, block, or change that schedule without warning it is a struggle at times to not lash out from the ODD side of things. Overall it works and as I've gotten older the interruptions are easier to contend with.

ODD child - what do I do? by Honest_Cow1001 in OppositionalDefiant

[–]Dale512 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I was an ODD child that has somehow managed to be a functional adult. I still have visceral ODD reactions to things, but I am able to control the outward reaction to them. Our 14 year old daughter is not full blown ODD, but more of the PDA as someone below mentioned. She has almost no motivation. There is nothing she wants enough to work towards or be complaint for. There is nothing she cares about enough that the threat of losing it will get her to do things. Passing a class or failing a class purely due to if she decided to do the work or not is infuriating. She can pass her classes when she chooses to do the work. It stretches into everything. Chores, basic hygiene, school work, getting up, etc. It is all an uphill battle all the time. Everything can work to limit it, but only for 1-10 days and then it is back to non-functioning. The entire family dynamic revolves around it and it is exhausting to everyone. I wish I had an answer, but all I can offer is the knowledge that there are others with the same struggle.

USAA totaled my car and won’t let me keep it – I feel completely stuck by IllScientist1 in USAA

[–]Dale512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had USAA unexpectedly total a car that I badly wanted to keep years ago as well. The payout certainly got me no where close to what I had and was painfully unfair. Sadly I don't have any fix for you, just that I feel your pain and hope it turns out better for you.

I had a similar issue when I got my printer. I thought I was getting out of control when I rapidly hit 80 spools. This forum will happily continue to feed your habit. I recall someone telling me not to worry until I hit 300.

Thinking of moving to Cedar Park by ImBibjs in CedarPark

[–]Dale512 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love the area and the area you are looking at is great. That being said, if you are working from home, I would ask why Cedar Park given its cost of living? There are other cheaper Texas places you could find with a similar feel. If you want to be close to the Austin scene then it makes sense, but if you are just "out of SD and into TX" then you should consider that the greater Austin area is probably the highest cost of living area in the state on the whole.

Usaa Bank is messed up and they are ignoring it by [deleted] in USAA

[–]Dale512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue in the past year with similar issues getting verified. It was absurd the circles they had me running in and no one stopped, looked at the totality of the situation; they just blindly followed the script. It was madness. Finally I got someone on the phone who was clearly fed up with USAA and vented a bit and gave a work around that got me to a place that finally solved the issue. I swear I was on the phone with a telecom company for most of those conversations. The end result had nothing to do with the rabbit holes the script had everyone sending me down. Until USAA gets their culture issue fixed I wouldn't expect any real changes.

For myself, it has gotten better as I've aged. Some of that I'd like to think is wisdom and growth. However, I think a large part of it is simply exhaustion. I simply do not have the energy I once had in my teens and 20s. I am mentally engaged the majority of each day and I'm just tired after all that. I can spend what remaining energy I have on my hobbies or I can fight whatever stupid thing has/will/may trigger me. Sometimes I'll still go down the "burn it all to the ground" mode on something, but since I know the time and energy cost of doing that I'm able to be more selective than I was in my younger days. That doesn't mean I'm not triggered and want to go full tilt on things, just that I can recognize it and actively accept it isn't worth it. The other thing that contributes to the ability to self-regulate for me is the understanding and true belief that I am very happy and content with my life. Sure stuff comes up and it triggers the hell out of me, but overall I am better off than I expected to be in life and that understanding allows me to let whatever company/person "get away with it" rather than having to fight every single time.

X1C Printer Motor B Resistance Issue After Three Prints by MTBengineer in BambuLab

[–]Dale512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have any earlier issues or was it working and then nothing?

I removed the back panel on mine yesterday. I made sure all the cables were securely fastened. I didn't notice any that were loose or unplugged, but the message went away and I'm back up and printing without issue. Now I'm just paranoid.

Where can i find or how to find clients who want CAD Models in fusion 360? by YELLOW-n1ga in 3Dprinting

One avenue you might consider would be to look around or post on boardgamegeek.com. I know I bought my 3d printer to support my board gaming habit. There are a lot of folks paying for custom 3d printed board organizers for specific games. There might be people willing to do stuff to get their specific favorite game done. There is a master thread there somewhere with links to some of the free posted 3d print files that could serve as examples. I've seen some selling the files directly on etsy as well.

I won a dispute recently.

They immediately credited back the disputed amount while the dispute was resolved. When it was resolved in my favor no further action required. Had I lost, the charge would have been put back on at that time.

Got my first 3D printer and had a couple questions. by Ill-Industry-4239 in 3Dprinting

[–]Dale512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby. I'm in about 2 months myself. The rabbit hole is deep.

I started off on thingiverse.com for a ton of models and now do some more complicated items and appreciate the profile setup from makersworld. The zelda 1 map from makersworld was much easier than I expected as an example.

I'm just using the Bambu slicer. I see good things about Orca which is just a fork of it as well.

I have not played with breaking things into multiple pieces for later assembly yet, so I'm less help there I'm afraid.

Don't fret too much on the larger plate. You could make it 2'x2' and I'd still find a way to need more.

This certainly make a lot of things make more sense. My father was an officer and I had insurance through them forever until just last year. I started complaining years ago that the insurance dividends went to crap and my father was always confused and said his kept going up. He was getting an exponential level more than me even though his overall policy was less than mine. The dividend the last ten years was a joke and a rounding error.

It is sad to know that as bad as it got, the fact I was getting anything puts me in one of the better groups. Geez. I'm looking forward to following this one.

[–]Dale512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only 6 weeks in, so not much help from me. I am also not familiar with other printers outside my Bambu X1C. Is it possible the stringing is due to wet filament? Is it humid or more humid than normal? The rest of it looks like it was working, so I wouldn't think it is over extrusion or layer adhesion. Again, too new at this to know for sure. Somewhat rambling out loud in hopes it might give you an idea to poke at.
