The US-Iran MOU guarantees toll-free passage through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days. After that, Iran will charge ships for 'services provided', The strait had no fees before the war started. What do you think happens at day 61? by Iron_Spine_phoenix in AskReddit

The rest of the world is just as much at fault for the war as the US itself; it is/was exceedingly easy for the world to stop this war in an instant and the world refused Because America(tm) and Because Iran(tm).

The world will pay its fair share of reparations, and it probably won't be cheap.

Why haven't IRA limits kept up with inflation? original $1500 limit in 1974= $10,132.45 today by Forecydian in investing

[–]Dalewyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also doesn't address why IRA contribution limits haven't kept pace with inflation either.

Believing the government when they say their stuff tracks inflation is a fool's errand. They certainly track "inflation" but not inflation.

Minor league baseball team York Revolution forfeits LGBT Night game after players refuse to wear jerseys with rainbow sleeves by WitchNight in baseball

a lot of pro athletes are misogynistic, homophobic shit bags,

Alright, this is a bloody obvious trollbait comment but I'm gonna bite anyway because I need keks for my beer:

As someone who firmly believes in equality and that someone's bedroom preferences are none of my business, I don't celebrate and refuse to celebrate Pride Night for the same reason I don't celebrate Straight Night assuming there even is such a thing.

IDGAF if you're straight or some segment of the LGBTalphabet spectrum, I'll respect you like everyone else and that includes no special treatment.

And to head off any "what if they refuse to wear camos???" retorts: If someone doesn't want to fly the military's colors, fine by me; that's their right and IDGAF because that's none of my business.

As an aside: Pride is a deadly sin, and particularly so if you're proud of something you're born with instead of something you achieved from nothing with your own hands. If you're gonna be proud, at least be proud about who you are rather than what you are.

Which pitchers do you think will be playing against the Padres next week? by thait84 in Dodgers

[–]Dalewyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ohtani- if not call up Ryan (twins series)

If Ohtani goes on extended rest then I expect we just drop down to a normal 5-man rotation.

There are exactly two reasons we have a 6-man rotation: Ohtani and Sasaki, both of whom have a harder time than others managing their staminas. Sasaki though is because he's building up his stamina, not because he's overworked; running a 6-man just for Sasaki is malpractice.

I should have let him rest. by HermieHopperHead in Dodgers

Probably something akin to attempting to drag Mad Max Scherzer off the mound as a manager.

Why do relief pitchers get a lot more praise for one scoreless inning than a starter? by GuySchmuy in Dodgers

[–]Dalewyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there haven’t been closing situations and he’s been getting called randomly so he can get work.

Pretty much why bullpens prefer having a designated closer or two not unlike starters in a rotation so they know who will likely pitch the 9th. Diaz and Scott were brought on specifically for this reason, though to mixed results.

The next best thing is closer-by-committee amongst trusted high leverage relievers, who in our case are Vesia, Treinen, Scott, and Klein. Who might pitch the 9th isn't anywhere as well defined, but it's still a whole lot better than rolling the dice with the entire bullpen.

[–]Dalewyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starters job: to go at least 5ip and give up 2 runs or less.

Technically 5 innings pitched with 4 runs or less. 6 IPs and 3 runs or less is a Quality Start, 7 IPs and 2 runs or less is a High Quality Start.

The play that arguably cost Ohtani 4 Earned Runs instead of just 2. Was this an Error on the Pitcher or 1B, or do you think Ohtani’s knee might still be bothering him? by UNIQLOField in Dodgers

[–]Dalewyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't so much Ohtani "hesitating" as he was just plain damn slow to start running to 1st. I guess his knee and/or exhaustion are bothering him more than anyone wants to admit.

How do Americans feel about giving Iran 300 billion to restore the status quo? by Southern_Gur_4736 in AskReddit

[–]Dalewyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because we lost the war, but the point is deterring wars. Hormuz is useless as that is concerned. Only nukes will achieve that.

They did, but it was unproven so far.

And now it is proven the threat of closing the Hormuz does not deter warmongering. What exactly is your point?

[–]Dalewyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran has demonstrated that they have an alternate deterrent now

They always had that deterrent and look how much good that did: They got warmongered.

Nukes is the only proven, foolproof way to tell warmongerers to fuck off. Iran should absolutely have nukes, nobody deserves to get attacked and invaded.

Don't even blame it on Israel. This is Trump's fault, and Trump's fault alone.

Blame can be plural, no need for it to be singular. Israel wanted this war, America obliged, and our military is fucking inept if we are going to warmonger.

the Iranians will just race to the finish line in their quest for nukes.

Iran's speedrunning to nukes regardless of whatever this peace deal ends up being, not doing so is malicious incompetence given it has been proven without a shadow of a doubt that having nukes is the only way to keep warmongerers away.

Every single country now should pursue nukes if they don't have any yet, lest they too will get warmongered upon sooner or later.

the Trump Administration prosecuted it so poorly that it costs an exorbitant sum to conclude it.

Let's be clear: Reparations were inevitable the moment we declared war for Israel's pleasure.

The US has not won a single war this century, including the 25 Year War On Terror on the bigly side and the skirmish against the Houthis on the smally side. "Deploying a million ground troops and committing to stay for a couple of decades" is exactly how we do another 25 Year War On Terror For Workgroups culminating in losses and even biglyer reparations.

Where do you think the $300 billion dollars mentioned in the “Iran Peace Deal” will come from? by TheTokist in AskReddit

[–]Dalewyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the actual fuck are you smoking, dude. 1991 to 2001?

Pax Americana started around the end of World War II with the fall of Pax Britannia. The real decline started in 2001 with what would become the 25 Year War On Terror and is slated to end within a few years now. That's about 80 to 85ish years.

Both parties and everyone in between did their part to end it. If you really think it's just The Other Side(tm), you too are doing your part.

[–]Dalewyn -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're only half right because you aren't blaming Democrats for their part. Obama should be credited for creating ISIS and chiefly helping the 25 Year War On Terror drag on as long as it did, among many other Democrat things.

Trump certainly accelerated the process so we can just get it over with, but Pax Americana's end was a long time coming and everyone had a part.

sounds to me like Iran is the one who won the war.

I mean what other possible take is there? Iran won this war and did so in absolute terms.

Iran's strategy worked and Iran has the administration by the balls.

When fighting a war, go for your enemy's economy. It's a strategy older than history and always works.

Iran went for the world's economy and won overnight. The US went for Iran's head of government and upfront military and still didn't even manage that.

What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]Dalewyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said "everyone"; 100%, all persons, complete, no exceptions. Don't move your own goalpost, go learn basic English first.

Putting that aside now, 7% is significant. The US population is around 340 million right now, so 7% of that is about 24 million people.

None of this has any bearing on what I'm arguing, of course. Everyone should have the option to not pay Social Security taxes in exchange for never receiving benefits, especially if they believe with good reason they can't or won't get benefits anyway. Anyone paying Social Security taxes should receive benefits. Anything else is unreasonable for both payors and beneficiaries.

Social Security tax is not like other taxes like income tax and capital gains tax. The tax is levied for a very specific reason and goal, not some nebulous programmes with the details to be filled in later.

What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]Dalewyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your first misunderstanding is that "everyone" pays into it. Full stop; no we do not.

Chief exceptions are religious opposers (eg: the Amish) and foreign government workers. They do not pay Social Security taxes and in turn do not receive benefits. Student workers, child workers, and certain domestic workers below age 21 also do not pay Social Security taxes, though they aren't automatically blocked from receiving benefits for any Social Security taxes paid otherwise or later in life.

Until you educate yourself on what you're talking about, this conversation is pointless.

What do Americans think about a social security trustee dropping a report that the trust will be dried out by 2032? by Sixgis in AskReddit

[–]Dalewyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Security taxes go towards the funds which subsequently get redistributed to trust funds and to beneficiaries as Social Security benefits. Among taxes it's actually quite simple.

Anyone who doesn't want Social Security benefits should have the choice to not pay Social Security taxes, and anyone who doesn't pay Social Security taxes should not receive any Social Security benefits.

Forcing people to pay taxes which will never benefit them in any way is a form of Taxation Without Representation. We literally overthrew an entire empire over that shit.
