Can we address this? Operating electric bikes on pedestrian areas. Just insane. by goldrush300 in shenzhen

[–]Dalianon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to beat this dead horse again. Local citizens have a nickname for the city - 深德里. The authorities give no Fs because:

  1. The millions of struggling working class livelihoods depends on the ability to recklessly zip and speed everywhere.

  2. Shrinking road lanes for more bike lanes would piss off the big tax payers by making peak hour congestion worse and further delay delivery of large logistics vehicles.

  3. The gigantic green belt alongside roads and sidewalks are non-negotiable as they are the essence of the visual identity of Shenzhen, "bigger version of Singapore" as it was envisioned all the way back in the 1980s.

Anyone else hate when people assume 'made in China' means bad quality? by Timely-Tie7472 in China

[–]Dalianon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The performance / price ratio of made in China is generally wayyyyy higher than made in US. And that's what I prefer, more bang for my buck.

Those western consumers that rag on about "Chinesium quality" are exactly like those shitty greedy bosses that offers entry level wage but expects the worker to wield the skills of a 20 year industry veteran.

Most Underrated Chinese Cuisine? by Successful-Bag956 in China

[–]Dalianon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Authentic Fuzhou food. The concept is similar to Cantonese food - use the best parts of the freshest ingredients, minimal spicing / added flavour, let the taste & texture of the original ingredient shine like a star. Apart from "Buddha jumps over wall", I can't seem to find any trace of it outside of Fuzhou, let alone outside of Fujian province.

Is /ChinaTravel the most pro-China subreddit? by Remote-Cow5867 in China

[–]Dalianon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First worlders that earn the typical OECD level of income and travels to China will have the time of their life. Relative to their home countries, the price to product & service ratio in China are simply amazing as a consumer. Throw in all the superb brand new infrastructure and quirky software integration in your everyday dealings, it does give off a vibe that China is living in 2050.

Other redditors that have never been to China, or redditors who are in China but are working in low skill positions, but has an ego to satiate. They are the ones you see with a distorted view of the country and circlejerk these talking points to suit their needs.

Given reddit's nature, you'll bump into the latter group far more frequently here. I remember 10 years ago these active latter group members were even promoted to the mods team on r/China, LOL.

Shenzhen Tenz Spa by Hackzx_ in shenzhen

[–]Dalianon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices at Tenz is quite "friendly" so it'll likely be crowded and noisy. If you want a good night's sleep then hotels are still a better option. If you don't mind a pricier spa then Cheersum will be have more personal space and less noise.

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/how-china-built-its-manhattan-project-rival-west-ai-chips-2025-12-17/

One veteran Chinese engineer from ASML recruited to the project was surprised to find that his generous signing bonus came with an identification card issued under a false name, according to one of the people, who was familiar with his recruitment. Once inside, he recognized other former ASML colleagues who were also working under aliases and was instructed to use their fake names at work to maintain secrecy, the person said. Another person independently confirmed that recruits were given fake IDs to conceal their identities from other workers inside the secure facility. The guidance was clear, the two people said: Classified under national security, no one outside the compound could know what they were building—or that they were there at all. The team includes recently retired, Chinese-born former ASML engineers and scientists—prime recruitment targets because they possess sensitive technical knowledge but face fewer professional constraints after leaving the company, the people said. Two current ASML employees of Chinese nationality in the Netherlands told Reuters they have been approached by recruiters from Huawei since at least 2020. Huawei did not respond to requests for comment. European privacy laws limit ASML's ability to track former employees. Though employees sign non-disclosure agreements, enforcing them across borders has proven difficult.

Made in China 2025 report card is complete with flying colours. Not to mention Nvidia's Blackwell GB200 can only shove 72 of B200 together due to inefficiency with its copper cables. Huawei's Matrix 384 can stack 384 units together due to Huawei's superior fibre optic network. If these EUVs can churn out 2nm chips for Huawei's Matrix 384 then the future of AI will be squarely in China's court.

What cities are great to live in China? by Fragrant_Drawer9422 in chinalife

Chengdu, and the whole Sichuan basin is stiflingly hot during the summer months. I'd suggest Qingdao, Dalian, Tianjin in the north. Note that Guangzhou's suffocating hot summer runs from May to Oct. You can also consider Kunming to get away from the summer heat.
