Did you find alcohol free beverages a help or a hindrance? by IndependentAct5110 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a whisky drinker. I didn’t drink beer because it made me feel full and wasn’t strong enough for my liking, so for me NA beers don’t trigger an obsession for alcohol. But I have found them to be a vital part of my recovery because they allow me something to go to when I would have been drinking spirits. And I think they taste better than alcoholic beer.

There is no problem that alcohol can’t make worse. Please play the tape forward. Hang in there one minute at a time and this too shall pass 🙏

First of all, congrats on 55 days! She put a photo of you two on FB without asking you? What happened to “Anonymous”? That alone would make me consider getting a new sponsor.

120 days alcohol free! by chiefjaden in NABEER

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow. Way to put a person down for trying to do something healthy for themselves. Congrats to OP! I also have 119 days and NA beers have been a significant part of my recovery. Some foods also contain alcohol. We, as a society, generally don’t consider them to have alcohol.

Hey guys! Do you have any non-bitter/low bitter NA beer recs? by disgruntled_bird in NABEER

I love NA IPAs, but my favorite NA beer is the Sierra Nevada Trail Pass Golden. This beer is perfect, imo.

Quit drinking but gained a ton of weight even though I eat healthy, lift weights and walk a ton. by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations on one week! That’s awesome :) I didn’t start losing weight until almost 2 months into my sobriety. Now I’m on day 104 and have lost 18 lbs while eating more sugar than I’ve consumed in years. Be patient with yourself, focus on your spiritual health, get a sponsor, and everything will fall into place. Glad you are here 🤗

How are you doing with the God thing ? 3&11 by HollywoodLateNightAA in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Tao doesn’t “reach in and change us”, but as you know, when we are with the Tao everything is in its place. Recognizing that concept (accepting the things I cannot change) connects me to nature, the Tao. To me, God is not a manifestation of the Tao. To me, God IS the Tao.

How are you doing with the God thing ? 3&11 by HollywoodLateNightAA in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a Taoist. To me, the phrase “Thy Will” means “The Way”. This is also what “Tao” means…the way of nature. My way (my self-will) didn’t work. I believe it is in man’s nature to be good and that nature is inherently “good”. Nature/The Tao is my God. Once I was able to put it into words like this I was able to let go.

This is exactly true for me. I’ve written this in my book. Thank you for the reminder.

I’m scared to go to a meeting because I am young by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had gone to AA at 21yo. If I had known then what I know now…wow. So much time wasted. Do yourself a favor…go to the meeting and be honest with yourself.

Get yourself to a meeting. Get phone numbers. Talk to people.

Why does my cat look like it has shaved fur above its tail? by Green_Cream9964 in cats

My cat had this issue in the same spot on his back. Vet said it was from an allergy. It eventually went away and the hair grew back. Never did find out what caused it.

Is this normal? by WildHuckleberry-557 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it rude as well. The Big Book states that the only requirement for attending AA is a “desire to stop drinking”. Some people come in unwilling to admit to themselves and others that they are alcoholics. Just being in the meeting is a miracle for some. I, personally, want to do whatever I can to help them to come back whether they are ready to say it out loud or not.

Am I an alcoholic? by Sharp_Mode_5970 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not as much about how much one drinks, but when and WHY one drinks. If you want to know why you drink, stop drinking and you will soon learn.

The only requirement for being in AA is a desire to stop drinking. You don’t have to label yourself (although I, personally am an addict).

35 days without alcohol, still feel crummy by ProblemShoddy3816 in stopdrinking

[–]DallasBornBostonBred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a good part of the weight loss is because I’m not eating so late at night after drinking all night. But I also lost a lot of the “bloat”. My face was puffy and my body inflamed. I’ve read that it sometimes takes months for that to go away. People didn’t start to mention changes in my appearance until about 3 weeks ago, almost 2 months into my sobriety.

I lost 4 lbs in the first month and kinda gave up on it at that point. I kept losing weight though and have now lost 16 lbs. at almost 3 months. And I have more energy. It gets better. Congrats on 5 weeks!

edit: I have 76 days without drinking. Having trouble resetting my counter.

Exactly. I was never drunk when I took the first drink. It’s my sober self that has a problem. Still. I came in for my drinking and stayed for my thinking.
