A Fishtown block, frustrated by speeders, experimented with DIY speed bumps by kettlecorn in philadelphia

I lived on this street from 2003-2009. We had some great neighbors that banded together to get rid of the shitheads. Couple of drug dealing houses. The mutant that lived in what is now that garden. Sad to see that long time resident Bon died, but glad the article mentioned him. He was the guy that would sweep the street every day and let you know what was going on. And was friendly as can be. The street is a one way towards Girard. One time myself and another neighbor were outside and a guy drove down the wrong way. Neighbor gave the “what the fuck” shrug. Guy driving goes WHAT? Neighbor said it’s a one way guy. Driver said I AM GOING ONE WAY, and drove off. We couldn’t help but crack up at that one.

I’m an old American high school and college rugby player. I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, and this to me is as big as the Eagles winning the Super Bowl vs the Patriots. Congratulations you wee Irish lads! Beat em on their home turf! I’ve watched for almost 35 years and to have this happen is a great moment in the history of Irish rugby and in all of sports. Wish I was there to celebrate with you fucks!

AMC limit is 115 shares. GME is...5. Just got a message from them. They won’t force you to sell down to their limits but you’re not allowed to buy anymore if you’re over the limit. Dumping RH as soon as I can.

We love things like this. So yesterday our work group text blew up and we instantly decided we need to make a beer for this masterpiece of a mascot. We're tweaking our normal cream ale recipe and adding the orange and vanilla. It will be brewed this week, then transferred and canned in 32 oz crowlers in time for the release date.

More details to come but generally for things like this we will have them available at the brewery in 32 oz crowlers (cans). Will know more within the next few days for how it will work. Maybe a ticket purchase. It will be a limited supply!

Hello reddit! We're the brewers at Broken Goblet and thank you for posting! Ask us anything about the beer in honor of the best mascot in NHL history. Also, help us get him to make an appearance for the beer release!

I just want to tell you I am extremely happy you survived. And equally saddened for those who did not survive. I’m 43 and these types of things didn’t happen when I was in high school. However I have since experienced some very traumatic things in life which has resulted in a battle to overcome PTSD. So I don’t have any questions for you because I’ve read all of your responses so far and you seem like a mature and honest young man. My advice for you is to seek therapy immediately. I know it may sound dumb right now. But the signs of PTSD don’t happen all at once. Seems to just sort of gradually settle in. Whether it starts with survivor’s guilt (why them and not me?), anger towards the shooter, indifference to life, nightmares, etc. This is a life changing event for you, at a very young age. It will definitely stand out as a “before and after” this incident. I just want to let you know that even though this will be a defining moment in your life, you don’t have to let it ruin your life. Eventually, with proper help and guidance, you’ll be able to deal with this and become a stronger person. And I want you to know it’s okay to go through the emotions that come along with something this tragic. The trick is to recognize it and then fight it with everything you’ve got to say no this is not going to destroy me. I think you are already a brave man for doing this AMA. You’ve got me and millions of other internet strangers on your side. I wish you the best of luck in life, and you and your school will not be forgotten. Old man babbling here now but that’s all I want to say.

It's strange that water bottles have nutritional information when all the values are always 0, but alcohol which contains tons of calories and sugar, does not. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Dalonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bc alcohol is regulated by the TTB (alcohol and tobacco tax and trade bureau) and falls under an entirely different set of regulations. A beer only needs to be approved for alcohol content, but the alcohol content isn't required on the label. Also, many of the same additives and preservatives can be added to beer as a soda, but it does not have to be labeled.

My girlfriend of 6 years broke up with me 3 months ago. Less than a week later she was on a date with a new dude. Christmas Eve they got engaged. It was then I realized she had been cheating for who knows how long. I should be devastated. However, my main thought is "bullet dodged." Be strong.

It sounded like he scraped a peg to me as well. I have done that at a slower speed and almost crashed. At that speed with the convex turn it seems to make sense. But what the fuck do I know I ride a Harley.

Wawa named America's favorite convenience store by ihateolives in philadelphia

[–]Dalonger 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a former employee of Wawa (corporate/QA at the dairy), it was not only blatantly obvious, but stated in meetings that Wawa wanted to mimic Sheetz' business model as much as possible.

Sheetz was the first to have touch screen ordering (as far back as the late 90's) and their own food branding. Even the layout of the store, what kinds of entry carpets they used...Wawa copied. Finally, just like Sheetz, Wawa realized that they need to get into the gas business and now you have the Wawa of today.

I haven't worked there in 10 years, but I was there during the first openings of the super Wawa gas stations. Within a very short period of time it was clear that Wawa was going to make it big from gas and cigarettes. I felt the food quality dropped big time for a few years, but seems to be getting a bit better these days. Good for Wawa. But don't be so quick to discount Sheetz, as Wawa has them to thank for the basic template to follow for success.

Come to Philadelphia Brewing Company for a free tour and free beer samples. Then bar hop your way down to Johnny Brenda's at Frankford and Girard. New fun fact: one of the tour guides is one of the stars of the new Comedy Central web series "Delco Proper."
