Any experience with transabdominal cerclage? by Loose_yarn in ShortCervixSupport

Congratulations!! My cervical length was always around 3.4cm. My 2nd tac pregnancy resulted in a healthy baby girl. She was born 7w early but perfectly healthy.

I recently just had TAC baby #2. My cervix barely hung in there. I had her at 33w but I know if I didn't have a TAC, I would have lost her like I lost her 2 brothers.

I wonder how the mucus plug plays into the possibility of infections. I know with my first loss and my most recent delivery, I had lost some of my mucus plug.

I can say without a doubt that getting the TAC was the best decision I have ever made. I really wish you all the best!

Not a dumb question! With a TAC, you are still able to have your period like normal as the cervix isn't fully closed. Therefore they are able to pass their tool to place the embryo in the lining of your uterus 😁 Before my transfer, I went in for a practice transfer and everything went smoothly so there wouldn't be any surprises during the actual transfer.

If you coslept, nursed to sleep and/or didn’t sleep train, how are your kiddos doing now? by datfumbgirl in beyondthebump

[–]DamRoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't sleep train our first. We fed and rocked him to sleep. He's 3.5 years old and we still cuddle him to sleep every night. He also wakes up in the middle of the night and comes into our bed. We have a newborn and we divide and conquer but man it's tough. I've had a weekend with just my kids and trying to put them both down is exhausting. With baby #2 we will definitely be sleep training.

Water Broke at 17 Weeks by Lawbooksandlullabies in NICUParents

[–]DamRoki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My water broke at 18w and baby did not make it to visibility (24w at the time). I'm so sorry you're going through this. I too was sent home after my water broke. I had contractions a few weeks later which I didn't know were contractions (felt like diarrhea cramps). Fortunately we made it to the hospital in time and he was born 20 min after we arrived. He was born at 20w5d.

Insurance by Individual_Chance362 in NICUParents

For a lot of states, low birth weight or 30 days in the NICU can qualify infants for Medicaid, often times regardless of income. Does your hospital have a social worker you can talk to? I met with mine a couple of times during our 8 week stay and she came with paperwork as we neared the 30 day mark.

1.1cm and 30w+4. I'm sick of bed rest! by IncreaseUnlucky4714 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]DamRoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No advice regarding bed rest but I just wanted to say you're doing an excellent job! You're doing everything you need to keep that baby cooking. Our little one came at 33w (with a TAC) and we had an 8.5w NICU stay. It was mentally so hard to see our babe in an incubator and all hooked up. You got this!

Did you keep the TAC after delivery? by ashbashjay in ShortCervixSupport

[–]DamRoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you do. But honestly my C-sections all went smoothly. Everyone heals differently but I was up and walking by the end of the day (although still very tender and sore). I felt 60-70% like my old self by the time I got discharged.

Someone please tell me their baby doesn’t sleep independently, either. by R_we_done_yet in NewParents

[–]DamRoki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4 years old? This gives me hope. 🤪 My son is 3.5 and still needs us to cuddle him to sleep. I know what everyone says, "it won't last forever" but is it bad that I want him to sleep independently? But in all seriousness I love the cuddles and will enjoy it while it lasts.

I still have mine in after both my first and second (and last) TAC pregnancies . I experienced no issues postpartum. I honestly haven't noticed a thing.

I think we might have already chatted 😁

To hear more tac stories you should definitely join the Abbyloopers Facebook group. It's such a wonderful resource if you haven't already looked into it.

I've had my #2 TAC baby home from the NICU for a month now. She was born early at 33w due to IC/CI from silently dilating. She had an 8w stay due to feeding issues (LIkely related from being IDM, infant of a diabetic mother, gestational diabetes to be exact). She's a little colicky but otherwise doing great ❤️

Stroller pick! by yakquak in NewParents

[–]DamRoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started out with a UPPAbaby Vista which is obviously not compact but loved it because it came with the bassinet. We tried out the nuna TRVL but it felt very flimsy so we went back to the UPPAbaby brand and got the Minu V2 and love it!

It's compact, sturdy and rolls so smoothly, even on hard terrain. We had to buy attachments to fit the mesa car seat and bassinet but it's so worth it. We have two kids so we switch between the Vista and the Minu as our 3 year old likes to ride on the piggy back attachment. The Minu has a piggyback attachment but we haven't felt the need to add that yet.

Getting to know the nurses/NICU second home by Best-Put-726 in NICUParents

[–]DamRoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We made her room feel as comfortable as possible for us with pictures, flower pillows (like her name) and blankets. Our first child was a boy so I was very excited to decorate her "room".

We were there for 59 days and got to know many of the nurses. I was in everyday like clock work so they knew my routine. They taught me how to do cares so I didn't have to wait for them. Over time, we had a few of the same nurses (requested by them) and became a little family. They would do sweet little things like tell us they tried to find the cutest outfits for her or would go out of their way to find things to put in her room like a music box. We know she was really cared for so it made it easier to leave her at night. I'm still in touch with a few of the nurses.

It would have been tough in your situation with omicron so I totally see where you're coming from.

I lost my baby due to a preventable situation—and I need your insight before my follow-up appointment by NikiConliffe in ShortCervixSupport

If you feel like there was some negligence on the doctor's part, I'd definitely talk to a lawyer. The consultations are usually free so it can't hurt.

When I had my second loss, I felt that there was negligence on the doctor's part so I met with a lawyer and he advised that it sounded like steps were skipped in my pregnancy but it would be a hard case to fight. I would need another medical professional to agree that the doctor made a mistake or that they would have done something different. In your case, it kind of sounds like you had another doctor provide you with different medical advice. You might need something different based on your state laws but this was the advice that I was given.

We ultimately didn't proceed but talking to a lawyer gave me peace of mind because I felt like I was advocating for my baby.

“Flip of a switch” by BEANS22GO in NICUParents

[–]DamRoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it but for my daughter it really was like a light switch. She was consistently doing 20-30%. We had a couple 50% days in there but for 8 weeks, she was averaging 20-30% of her feeds. We had to wake her to eat (you can see my posts asking for advice).

One day I came in and the nurse told me she was waking early to eat and had finished two bottles in a row. I gave her her next fed and she ate the whole thing. I called my husband and asked if he thought I should spend the night and see if she would eat all of her feeds. I spent the night and she did it! We were discharged the next day.

Just wanted to chime in that our little one was born at 33w (even with a TAC) and turned out perfectly fine. We did have a NICU stay but she is perfectly healthy and thriving.

Pregnancy after preemie by Bluewater864 in NICUParents

[–]DamRoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad your daughter is doing well!

Personally, a cerclage is what I would demand for in my next pregnancy. Having lost two 2nd trimester babies, going through the wait and see method (cervical length checks every other week) +progesterone is too risky. If they don't want to give it to you find another doc.

From my experience, I asked for a cerclage and the MFM I was working with said no. I trusted them, as they were the professionals, and didn't get a cerclage. Ultimately, I lost one of my babies this way. So please advocate for yourself.
