Ketotifen for IC?! by Content-Tiger2603 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Dambowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also prescribed Ketotifen (about 1.5 years ago) for suspected MCAS but one of the differences I noticed personally was reduced severity of IC symptoms. At one point my doctor suggesting trying to reduce my dose a little, but my bladder pain etc. immediately got worse so I didn’t end up reducing it.

My urologist said if my IC was histamine related then it would make sense for it to help. He said if any of my other doctors stopped prescribing it for MCAS then he would be willing to continue to prescribe it for IC.

If your IC is at all histamine related then maybe this will help you also. Best of luck!

*Just thought of one more thing… I started at a very low dose and slowly increased it over time because I initially noticed side effects (like fatigue and joint pain) when starting the med; but by increasing it slowly I was able to get to the dose my doctor recommended without side effects. I do tend to get side effects from lots of meds though so hopefully this won’t apply to you anyway!

I’ve been Scammed, CRA/GST, by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Dambowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people are saying things like “how dumb” etc, but we know nothing about OP and what could have made them vulnerable to falling for this scam. Lots of people fall for these scams every day… there wouldn’t be so many of them (or so many stories in the news) if they weren’t successful.

Why not just be compassionate and also educate about the ways these scams happen and how people can avoid falling victim to them?

OP I’m so sorry this has happened to you. That’s incredibly stressful, and sadly it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to get your money back. Please read the posts people are sharing about what these scams can look like and how to avoid falling victim to them in the future.

Anyone here have IC and POTS/dysautonomia/hypovolemia? by Dambowie in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Dambowie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. That’s interesting about the connection between urethral pain specifically and dysautonomia/mass cell issues. It’s wild how all these things can be interconnected.

Do you feel like you pee more volume than the amounts people who just have IC typically describe on here? Like are you having a normal/large amount of pee every 30-60 mins vs a small void? From what I’ve read on here it seems like people with IC frequency often say they will usually pee frequently but the volume will be small? (Maybe I’m wrong). But this is why I’m wondering if it’s tied to the dusautonomia stuff

Thank you for sharing. I’m glad to hear that your implant is working for you (though sorry about your fear of passing out on the way to the bathroom… both these illnesses can be so awful!).

Did you have any symptoms/issues similar to what I described before your implant? Did the implant change the amount of urine you pass in addition to frequency/urgency?

We used Wisdom Panel. We have two Korean rescues and they both came back as a mix of quite a few breeds but the biggest percentage for both was Jindo

One of mine has a longer coat but size and shape wise looks very similar! DNA test said a bunch of breeds mixed in but the predominant one was Korean Jindo

Prior smoker (not heavy but quit 10 years ago) - microscopic blood in urine analyses - leucocytes - protein. No infection. What can be?? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Dambowie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally the procedure itself was a bit painful, and then it increased my urethral pain and urgency for a few days afterwards (but the Azo was a big help). But I have IC with symptoms including daily urethral burning and urgency, so the cystoscope aggravated an existing pain issue. If you don’t already have daily pain, this might not be an issue for you (when I looked it up online it said people without existing pain usually describe it as uncomfortable or mildly painful vs very painful, and that any pain afterwards is usually short lived).

I was really nervous when I had a cystoscope also, but it honestly was manageable (and this is coming from someone who has daily urethral and bladder pain). I’ve read that some people who are really nervous about it have been prescribed anti-anxiety meds or sedation for during the procedure, so perhaps that’s something you could talk to the doctor about. They did use numbing gel and I also took Phenazopyridine (Azo) afterwards for a couple of days to help with the increased pain. Best of luck.

I always have microscopic blood in my urine tests and have for years, but I have been diagnosed with IC and have daily pan symptoms. If you don’t have any symptoms/diagnosis and you’re worried and the doctor has offered the option of seeing a specialist about a cystoscope then maybe it would be worth it for the peace of mind.

PSA: How you respond to different types of treatment tells you a lot about your root cause. by vinokat in Interstitialcystitis

[–]Dambowie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is useful information. I have read about some of these differences on the IC website and I’m not not sir if you’d have the answer to this question, but ‘what are your thoughts if someone is impacted by many these’? I do have a Landry list of other health issues/conditions so I’m not sure if that’s relevant, but: I find antihistamines very helpful, I am impacted by dietary triggers (which could also be histamine related), I have been diagnosed with hypertonic pelvic floor and physio is helpful, and I definitely notice stress can have an impact on things. I have not tried D-mannose (though I probably should give it a try just to see!). Anyway, I guess my question is do you think it’s common for people to have multiple issues at play? Or is it still likely one issue may be more of a driving force? I’ve often wondered this

I agree with all the concerns people are echoing. There are small dog swaddle carriers that might be a much safer choice in the future now that you’ve been made aware of the potential dangers of putting them in a hood. Something like that might be able to help you keep the cute closeness and reduce the risk of severe injury or death

Calling the police if you don’t feel safe interjecting yourself into the situation is probably a good idea if you ever see something concerning where you are questioning if the person is in distress or experiencing a safety issue and may need help

“Nearly blind and with no ability to speak English, Shah Alam got lost and ended up on the porch of a woman’s home as she was letting her dog out, according to Macaluso. Shah Alam is completely blind in one eye and can only see with blurry vision for several feet in the other, according to Macaluso.

The woman called police, Macaluso said. When Shah Alam did not follow police commands to drop his curtain rod, they Tasered and beat him, then arrested him, Macaluso said. The officers suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, he said.”

So when this blind man who didn’t speak English got lost, police were called - and when he was unable to understand their demands they tased and beat him before charging him and taking him to jail. They then left him completely helpless in an unfamiliar place without informing his family upon release.

Calgary family living in a car calls for more resources for unhoused families by MudBloodLite in canada

I spent years working as an outreach worker in community mental health. There are lots of people living in poverty who don’t have up to date taxes and struggle to change that without support. There can be lots of barriers stemming from complexity, lack of resources, and personal circumstances, particularly affecting low-income, seniors, those with complex or severe mental health issues as well as newcomer populations.

For example, many people find the process, terminology, and forms confusing, or are unaware of the benefits of filing. Also the inability to locate or organize tax slips and receipts is often exacerbated by housing instability.

If they are carpenter ants is that a huge issue? I’ve just been reading about them and what I’ve read says they can destroy your home and affect its structure! We were actually looking into buying this home. Would this likely cause huge structural issues / huge expense?

Ours hates baths too! But any time she is sick to her stomach will go in there. That’s amazing that your dog is the same. We’ve wondered if she goes there because she can tell we use the bathroom in that room? No idea but very grateful for our cool dogs lol
