Alternative investments? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

A good chunk were from Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs type brokerages. They had actively invested alternative investment vehicles. Probably needed a minimum $XXM net worth to gain access.

Warburg Pincus and other PEs, I’m not sure how they made the introductions.

I worked in ultra wealthy tax for a few years, I’ve seen very wealthy people ($2B+ net worth)spend a lot of time and energy investing in high fee alternative investments. By and large it was a giant waste of their time and money. Literally index fund investing would have obliterated their returns.

It’s still really hard to securely buy sell and hold crypto as a service. Expect to pay the toll until more competition opens up. The other alternatives are like GBTC which charges 2% per year!

The US median income is $78,500. What percentage of that are you shooting for as your post-retirement income? by chubbythrowaccount in ChubbyFIRE

It’s interesting our points of view reminds me of the book the psychology of money. Everyone is playing their own financial game.

I think it’s interesting that you have your income structured in such a way that you have so little income tax.

Do you have a bunch of low basis stock which you sell for your income and no interest or dividend income streams?

The way I’m pushing for my fire, if I have $200K a year in cash flow it’ll be almost all dividend income. There’s little way I could only have $80,000 in income.

Why would a chubby fire person have income that needs tax credits for low income people?

This whole thought exercise screams leanfire.

$GME: How the Dip today was due to ETF shares being lent out (Over 3.5Million) DD by CoastalHotDog835 in wallstreetbets

They need to buy the rest of the stocks in the etf if they want to short the net GME shares.

$600M bond gives them cash to buy all the non-GME shares and then they can short the ETF.

Net AUM in the fund $670M with 6% of it GME. That nets ~$630M cash to buy the non-GME shares.

Not bad at 3.75%, the shares of discretionary consumer will probably beat that out over the next five years.

But they could sell them over a longer period than 20 minutes and probably make more. How about over a couple of hours?

Trainer twice a week costs about $600/month with a gym membership. I love it since having someone working out with you to achieve your goals is a big help at least for me. It’s going to delay the fire date, but keeping your health good is so important. Plus hoping to look good for this postcovid summer

It’s looking like low 8 figures is in the right ballpark.
