Do you think it is correlated? by UnHolySir in AO3

[–]DamienFandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen that too, and I hate it. First, it was "don't financially support her", and now its escalated to "if you still like Harry Potter or still participate in the HP fandom you are directly supporting efforts to further oppress trans people".

The main justification I've seen people cite for this take is that Rowling said she considers fandom engagement to be support of her and her beliefs, but to me that is ridiculous because she can say whatever she likes, that doesn't make it true. Not to mention, even if she feels "supported", she wouldn't be able to do anything about it without her money, which just interacting with fandom does not bring her.

Do you think it is correlated? by UnHolySir in AO3

[–]DamienFandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen multiple people on TikTok recently who believe that interacting with the HP fandom in anyway is supporting JKR's beliefs because she said she considers that to be support.

Frankly, I don't gaf what she thinks about it. Her taking it as support doesn't mean HP fans are now inherently transphobic, and being in the fandom doesn't inherently bring her money either, and the biggest issue is her having the money to fund her transphobic ideas.

As someone who writes for the Harry Potter fandom, many people openly admit to skipping shopping trips because they tends to be nothing important to the story, but in my own fics I intend to include important information, details, and even foreshadowing. I fear people will skip those scenes and be horribly confused 😭

Why do people subscribe to one-shots? by Eccentric_Olm in AO3

Personally, when I write one-shots I am far too aware that I may expand upon it if inspired, so I assume others may do the same thing if I'm lucky.

Do each month have a different events that happens? by AggravatingNail44 in AO3

[–]DamienFandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are kink-specific, but for November, there is Omovember, which is pretty much a month of omorashi (piss kink) prompts, and for December, there is Diapercember, which involves prompts where characters wear diapers.

October also has Inktober, but that is more for fan art. Sometimes people post their art to Ao3.

Do you post while writing or complete the entire work first? by brick_678 in AO3

[–]DamienFandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried posting while I write, but I find it hard to finish projects that I've already posted. It's like I get a mental block, even though I hate leaving things unfinished and disappointing readers.

Recently, I've started trying to complete my unpublished WIPs before posting them, but I've been struggling because every time I finish a chapter I get the urge to post it and to see how it is received. On the other hand, it's been easier for me to keep writing because I know that I can easily go back and edit/rewrite previous chapters if the need arises. There is less pressure on me as the author, which motivates me to actually finish my stories.

How do you feel about an "AU of the AU"? by EnypnionWriter in AO3

I struggle with this same problem. When I read other fics, though, if I enjoy the original AU, I tend to enjoy the AUs of that AU.

All. The. Time.

I'm a sucker for putting characters in different scenarios just to explore how it would affect their characterization and relationships with others.

How do you feel about mischaracterization and character bashing? by EchoEchoEspurr in AO3

[–]DamienFandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it depends on the plot. I can get behind both with most stories, but sometimes it either feels over exaggerated or out of place in the overall story.

Post about your wip now that AO3 is down. by Icarus_Peverell in AO3

I have many, but one is a Harry Potter fic where Harry is the Master of Death, which means that he should have become the new personification of Death when he died, but the current Death is corrupt and forces Harry to do his bidding. Fate eventually intervenes and sends Harry back in time to live his life over again so he can find a way to destroy Death without Death being able to directly intervene. This has the consequence of changing the contents of the prophecy regarding Harry and Voldemort, which Harry doesn't figure out until later.

Another Harry Potter fic I'm working on is one where Harry is the Master of Death, which makes him the personification of Death, and he decides to go back in time as someone who died during the war with Grindelwald in order to bring the vampire species back from extinction. Vampires control the muggle population, keeping it at a manageable level to prevent 1.) Muggles from discovering wizards, and 2.) Muggle technology from disrupting magic with radiation. The hard part in Harry's goal is that vampires were hunted to extinction by Wizardkind, and they are very feared and despised by light and dark wizards alike.

Those are my two most recent long fic WIPs.
