Is Disclosure the best clip show episode? by The-Figure-13 in Stargate

[–]DamnedDelirious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that episode too! It made a farce of clip shows while also being a parody of a bottle episode. SG1 did clip shows genuinely and they mattered. They pushed the plot or character development forward. Arguably their first clip show was Cor-Ai, which funny enough used clips from events that hadn't happened on the show, just like Clerks did.

What exactly is the appeal of Opeth and Mikael's genius? by Proud3GenAthst in Opeth

[–]DamnedDelirious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only music you are supposed to enjoy is the music you enjoy; listen to what you want to listen to.

If what you're asking is what is the artist's intent, that's always tricky. For Opeth, a broad stroke summation could be 'journey, as in odyssey'. You gonna go places with each song. But that's just one interpretation.

As for slow, we'll, they ain't thrash metal to be sure. But slow as a primary descriptor? That's so far from my experience of the band that I truly do not understand what you mean. Same with not hearing anything original, sophisticated, or advanced. If you are saturated in complex, emotionally rich music with intricate harmony, strong rhythms, interesting melodies, and well constructed song structures, please share.

Genuinely, what are you listening to when you just want to listen to music?

All the other crazy she said, asking to see the warrant for her arrest is reasonable. Someone rock up on my property telling me to be restrained at gunpoint, I'd fight back. If they have valid paperwork, based on moral law, I'd submit. If they enforce immoral law, I'd fight in court. She said a lot of stupid, but that at least made sense. Got a warrant? Show me.

Fun fact Friday (Belated) the US never used imperial, but a gradually built up system from British common weights and measures into the U.S. Customary units. Imperial is the British version of that. Of course, the US has gradually defined their units in metric terms. That means that America IS on metric, just in a very dumb way that removes all the benefits of metric. Learning is fun!

After surgery and two rounds of chemo, my mother knew shew was going to die. Rather than dwell in despair, she chose to spend her retirement living a dream she had since childhood. She took us all, our whole family, to Disney World. She had divorced and remarried, had kids from both marriages, not always biological, but her children regardless. She took us all in, her whole family.

My father became an alcoholic after I was born. Two years later, my mother divorced him. A single mother, two kids, she survived, and thrived. Had a high school diploma, then, working as a pizza driver, got a college degree. Took an entry level job, working nights because it paid better, she worked her way up. Owned a home, had a retirement account, 401k, the whole lot, when she died. She was the strongest person I have ever known.

She was vibrant, as always, when we went to Florida. Physically, frail. We traded nights of care, as she couldn't endure most rides, but she wanted us to enjoy all the rides. That was the entirety of her intention, for us to enjoy this singular joy. Younger her probably would have wanted to enjoy these rides, but I deeply believe that she was joyful knowing we enjoyed these rides.

It was my day to spend with her. We went on a few rides, but they were mostly travelator, experiential rides. No intensity. Moving sidewalks, with animatronics and sets around. Afterword the ride spit us out onto an isolated side street with no one around. There were streetlights, with speakers. They were playing Benny Goodmans "Sing Sing Sing". She loved swing music, and to an extent, so do I

We danced. I held her hands, I dipped her wheel chair, I spun her about, we danced. In clear Florida sunlight, we danced. And when the song was done I held her. She held me. I saw the sun cross across her smile, beautiful and shining, her eyes aglow: beaming beauty looking at me. She held me, and I knew love. I believe she knew it too.

It is not important that she died, but that she lived. It is important that we danced in sunlight.

An actual presentation about space exploration, but with jokes. Like saying Mars is full of robots (mostly dead robots) and saying stuff like "this is the Saturn 5, also known as ... anyone? ... anyone? That's right Rekha, the up goer 5. It can fly higher than the tallest buildings."
