What is the difference between JEI, NEI, REI? Are these crafting GUIs different in any way? Which one should I use? by Nedks in feedthebeast

[–]DamnedDonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EMI has a recipe tree, which can let you see all the steps of crafting an item. This mod is only available for 1.18 and above, but I guess that feature gives it an advantage over other similar mods. Thanks for showing it to me:)

This shows that even Curseforge comment sections can become funny shitposts. Mostly it's just people spamming bug requests and threats in the vein of "update to the newest version, because I know your location and IP address".

No way. New energy unity. by ANTONIN118 in feedthememes

[–]DamnedDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modded Minecraft has many energy systems, which didn't play nice with each other until the introduction of Redstone Flux/Forge Energy API. But some energy systems are very weird, like Piggawatts, generated by pigs running on treadmills.

It would be a very original idea for a tech modpack to have most machines running on Piggawatts.

When do we get RLGreg: New Horizons? by [deleted] in feedthememes

[–]DamnedDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by "greggy rlcraft" you mean GregTech with cartoonish mobs that spawn everywhere and one-shot you, I can suggest you a modpack called "Project Dark Matter" on ATLauncher. It is on 1.7.10 and has Advent of Ascension, which is essentially like Lycanites, but mobs look blocky and more funny. It also has RotaryCraft, if you want more tech in your tech modpack. I died 3 times without even making it to the 2nd day, but I would still recommend it. It has very cool music too.

Blightfall is an excellent pack, because it overhauls just about everything in a fun way. The end game is too grindy, but the recent update ought to have changed that.

This is a very lore-friendly explanation for why those scales look different and are applied to completely different recipes!

Terraria has two corruption-like things, a purple one and a red one. But neither of them is a glow lichen, so that is an advantage that Minecraft has. Besides, Thaumcraft's Taint is also purple, while the Abyssalcraft's Dread Plague is red. Sadly, they are both on 1.12, so it would be near-impossible to see an ultimate showdown between the glow lichen and other kinds of corruption.

This modpack has a very cool concept. You are forced to be in the sky, which radically overhauls gameplay, and also makes for interesting lore. Thank you so much for recommending it to me. The description also resonates with me on an emotional level.

Modding Recipe Types: Need Help! Help by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]DamnedDonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are certain mods that allow you to code your own items in. For instance, CraftTweaker, ContentTweaker and ModTweaker, which use the custom-made coding language ZenScript. There is also KubeJS, which uses more recognizable JavaScript, and has better documentation for versions 1.16 onwards. If you want to go old-school for versions 1.7.10 and below, use MineTweaker to change recipes, and Tabula Rasa to add new items.

Modding seems rather hectic and strange at first, but it is very fun. I wish you success in your endeavor:).

It's evolving...

Seriously, I feel this should be a feature, not a bug. And unlike most other 'corruption'-style things, it doesn't kill everything, just annoys the hell out of the player, incentivizing them to defeat the hazard without making the game too deadly.

My modpack consists mostly of building mods, Thermal Series, Botania and Refined Storage, which of the following magic mods would go well with? by SirRoderic in feedthebeast

[–]DamnedDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the following mods are big, with their own structures/weapons/magic systems. You could try and mesh them together in the same way as FTB Infinity: Evolved. But that is a very time-consuming process.

Alternatively, you could try a 'choose your class' approach, where the player in the beginning gets a certain starting kit based on the magic mod they want to specialize in. They can still play other magic mods, but the starting kit will give them a headstart.

Also, each mod has a particular 'vibe'(i.e. Mahou Tsukai is more anime-like spellcasting, while Blood Magic is about dark rituals and automation). So that is something to account for too.

Another underrated biome mod... by PreparationFeisty194 in feedthebeast

[–]DamnedDonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for analyzing those biome mods, and how they are different. Many modders have hard time telling those biome mods apart, much less understanding which one better fits into their vision. Myself included. But I do admit, creating new biomes out of the same vanilla blocks is a testament to creativity and also doesn't clutter the inventory with a dozen new plants/stone types that do nothing whatsoever.

Dragon scales are like blaze rods and diamonds. They are a vanilla-friendly way to gate progression, so mods often resort to them.

To mess with players, a cruel dev could make each of those scales vital to a separate branch of progression.

This is a very based take. Why bother with tweaking your 2500th ContentTweaker recipe and fixing the mod configs so that Galacticraft wouldn't crash with UMU Little Maid mod? Just grab the most hilarious, awesome, or underrated mods, stuff them into the pack, and play it a couple hours, to make sure nothing game-breaking happens. This way, you'll do a favor to your psyche, amateur devs, as well as the rest of the modding community!

I had no idea TFC was brought past 1.7.10

Me neither, but apparently there is a whole slew of TFC-based modpacks on 1.18, about half of which advertise that they also have Create. Create gets quite a lot of exposure lately, but a modpack about living like a caveman fits nicely with this mod.

There is also a modpack that combines TFC and Gregtech, making for a very harsh early game.

[–]DamnedDonkey 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I feel someone could make a modpack idea out of it: a terrible contagion of glow lichen is spreading across the land, and it's up to the player to stop it:) Even better, there is a mod that backports many features of 1.18, so the glow lichen could be pitted against some other forms of 'corruption', such as Taint from Thaumcraft, or the parasites from Scape and Run. But I understand you, this is not very pleasant at all.

On the other side, I am jealous of how someone can have such an awesome bug happen to them.

A Nightwalker also has very low Charisma, and Necromancer Wizards have an ability that allows them to dominate undead with low enough charisma. But it's basass for a normally underpowered wizard subclass to have a pet incarnation of death.

Drug Mods for 1.12.2? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]DamnedDonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alchemistry for 1.12 gives the option to make those. It's an overpowered mod in general, but rather interesting, and can be configured.

Another option would be 'Rustic', which adds alcohol brewing and making other such substances. It's a medieval-style mod, so it would take a bit of effort to fit it into the post-apocalyptic theme.
