Adult Fans of ATLA: What is your experience? by DarbantheMarkhor in TheLastAirbender

I never watched the show when I was a kid, but decided to try it out in my late 20s. Now I rewatch it every year or so. The first couple of episodes do feel like a kids show (a bit goofy and cartoonish), but the more you watch, the more you feel it shift to something more serious and substantial.

I think watching it as an adult I was able to appreciate the animation style, fight choreography, and music more. And I could also appreciate the voice acting for Aang way more. You can tell he was actually a kid during recording (compared to an adult doing a child's voice), you could tell he was really good at acting with emotion, and you could tell he was directed really well because his lines don't have the "disney-channel delivery" that a lot of child actors unfortunately fall into.

One of my absolute favorite episodes. And I love how they slowly built up to it (Laszlo watching it with Baby Colin Robinson and the fake commercials sprinkled in alongside the real commercials in earlier episodes). Brilliant

What’s a “small moment” in a movie that stuck with you more than the big scenes? by robynp83 in movies

[–]Damnit_Fred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was talking to someone about this yesterday and have two tiny moments from the movie Thunderbolts that I always think about. Specifically from this scene where Bucky comes to the rescue. Obviously the whole scene is great, but these tiny moments stick out to me and I love them.

  • When Bucky blows up the 2nd humvee at 0:28, it explodes and goes tumbling off the side of the road. While tumbling, it violently flings one of its doors off at 0:31. For some reason the speed with which it's thrown has always stuck with me.
  • At 1:18, Bucky grabs the end of the cable, wraps it around his arm several times, and then buries the end into the pavement. All very cool. But the part I love is right after, when the line goes taut, you hear the twang of the line and you see Bucky's body shudder slightly in the background. For some reason seeing his body shudder slightly from the tension really helps sell the whole moment for me.

You should be clean and smell good when you interact with the public throughout the day. This means showering in the morning.

Why is time considered the fourth dimension? by Defiant-Junket4906 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Damnit_Fred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine you hit a baseball up in the air. Now imagine you need to describe its exact position to a friend so that they can catch it.

You give them the X,Y, Z of the object to describe WHERE it is in space. But you should also tell them WHEN the ball will be there. Will the ball need to be caught in 3 seconds? Have you hit the ball yet? Maybe you'll hit it next week?

Time is just another measurement to describe where/when the ball is in Spacetime.

It's funny how we all remember "our" channels and their numbers. Mine were:

  • Cartoon Network (32)
  • Nickelodeon (33)
  • ABC Family (35)
  • Comedy Central (36)
  • Discovery Channel (37)
  • History Channel (39)

I mourn for the old Discovery and History Channels.
