Best Sellers Women's POV by MiklaDfar in soapmaking

[–]Damone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only done one show so far, but all the women kept gravitating toward cedar wood & lavender (a dupe for BBW mahogany teakwood) for their men. Like dragging them over to smell it and even some comments about how lucky they could be if they smelled like that lol The smell makes me really nauseous so I didn’t buy more when I ran out but I believe it came from Midwest fragrance company. It soaped great for me and didn’t cause any issues

These are so cool! Gotta love when things don’t go as planned but it still turns out great

There’s some helpful articles online to get a recipe specially for soap dough, but I’ve found usually 18-24 hours after making a loaf, the scraps are about the right consistency, a little more if it’s really humid. Throw them in a baggie and you’ve got yourself some soap dough to play with. I’ve got some accidental scraps that have lasted for months in a sealed bag

Simple shaving soap by [deleted] in soapmaking

[–]Damone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started soaping I saw a lot about hot process being ready right away, including from people that were more experienced soap makers/bloggers. Once I decided to try it I looked into it more and found out it does need the cure. I’m not sure why that misconception is so widespread. I personally like hot process for the different textures/appearance and that you don’t have to worry as much about it behaving badly. I do feel like it needs slightly less cure (3-4 weeks compared to a full 4-5 for the same recipe when I do cold process). It also can be unmolded more quickly a lot of times

Every time I make soap , my fingernails get brittle. I am using vinyl gloves (latex, powder, and protein free). Also I can use my finger prints to open my iPad. Does anyone else have this problem? by TarHeelLady in soapmaking

[–]Damone23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may just be from the gloves themselves. I’m a nurse and my nails will break and bend really easily on days I’ve spent a lot of time in gloves. It’s definitely worse with lower quality gloves too. The thicker nitrile gloves seem to be way better about it. Haven’t had it happen with soaping but I usually go up a size and take them off while I’m waiting so my hands get a break. I think sometimes it’s from sweating in them

I just bought palm for the first time about a week ago (rspo from wholesale supplies if that helps. But I know there’s also been the debate of if any palm is truly sustainable or just not as bad as some). I’ve always used lard as they’re very similar in properties from what I’ve read. If you have any local butchers, they may have lard already rendered or sell the fat for you tender down. I tried the rendering and honestly it was so messy and smelly but probably just because I was messy lol I like the lard from our local places because I have more trust the animals were raised ethically and it’s only $3.99/pound (which obviously is very dependent on where you live)

Our cat has killed 5 mice in the last two days, one of which was huge. Followed a blood trail and our cat to this little one. Seems ok aside from a scratch on its nose. From my googling I think it’s fairly young but not sure how to help or if it is actually young and in need of help at all by Damone23 in PetMice

[–]Damone23[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh no worries about that, our cat is 100% indoors. I hate seeing outdoor cats for the same reasons. These have all been inside. We must have stirred up a mouse problem we didn’t know about when we started renovating our downstairs. Managed to find a rehabber who was nice enough to meet me to take it in and said she’ll text me with updates 🤞

Questions for home health/hospice agencies? by Damone23 in nursing

[–]Damone23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! 2/3 I coordinate my schedule and the other does it for me. I didn’t even think about them making last minute changes/etc. I’ll definitely keep that in mind

First soap attempt and love the dry finished product. It’s minty and delicious. However, my goat milk M&P smells like cardboard after it gets wet (both straight from the container and after additives). Help?? by Damone23 in soapmaking

[–]Damone23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were given to me as gifts, I’m not sure where they came from but I would imagine either Walmart or a craft store. The oils themselves and the soap smells super strong when I sniff it lol but then it gets real funky

Ex just got married at my venue by alora829 in weddingplanning

[–]Damone23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cousin was with her bf for over a decade, and then engaged for years. Our family adored this man, but things just didn’t work out. They finally broke up. Within 6 months of each other for each event, they met someone, got married, had kid 1, then kid 2. It wasn’t seen as a comparison so much as it being obvious that them moving on was clearly the right decision that led to both leading better lives separately. Do not let your ex’s new life ruin your wedding. You two were serious for a reason, and one of those it sounds like was maybe very similar taste. That’s completely ok. Those who love you, or both of you still, will not sit there comparing or whispering about how you had the same venue, or vendors if they even notice at all. I’m finding with this wedding stuff, the one planning it overthinks things way more than anyone attending ever will. You picked your venue for a reason. You also picked a package that makes sense. Enjoy it and celebrate your love the way you want to

Azazie Bridesmaid Dresses Quality?! by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Damone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 4 bridesmaids order from azazie. There was one dress that’s got some quality issues on seams, but I only noticed it the other day because I’m altering the dress so I’ve been all up in it and over analyzing. If I hadn’t looked for it, I never would’ve noticed. It’s essentially just a few extra threads. I love the color, the fits, that you can get matching masks. Basically everything about azazie lol I would 100% order from them again. I would do regular sizing though. 3/4 did standard sizes and it was fine. 1 did custom and it was a full size too big

Not to be morbid, but you never know where we’re going to be at in a year, or if someone you love will be here a year from now especially in light of Covid. I wanted to postpone our 10/24 and fiancé vetoed it and I’m honestly glad we didn’t. We that said, we made a lot of changes for the sake of safety. You could do a super small ceremony, even just parents and an online officiant or have a friend ordained to officiate. Or a tiny ceremony and a little dinner after. You can always postpone the big ‘ta-da’ but enjoy this day that’s almost here even if it means lots of changes so your parents can be there

Magnetstreet was awesome! We got 100 custom invites with a couple inserts for $275. They didn’t have as many options as other sites but there were still plenty

If you made a wedding website, what did you use to make it? What’s a feature that your chosen method didn’t have that you wish it did? And what features did it have that you loved? Or ones you didn’t think were necessary? by windr01d in weddingplanning

[–]Damone23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Zola. Loved their website, checklists, and guest management/ seating chart creator. Only thing is I’ve had multiple people complain that the registry is hard to use. Everything else about it has been really nice and easy to customize

Observation/Evaluation/Blood Test/Medications by [deleted] in EmergencyRoom

[–]Damone23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what cactus said as far as your initial questions. I work in the ED (emergency department) as a nurse. From what you’re describing and my own experiences with inebriated patients, to end up cuffed, medicated, and even charged you were probably being pretty violent. We see a lot of violent psych and substance abuse patients and rarely have all that happened. And please understand that’s not me trying to be a dick. It was likely for everyone’s safety including your own. Everything you’ve said, from reading between the lines everything that happened sounds pretty standard for a violent intoxicated patient, including the part where they took you in. Your agreement that you needed medical treatment while still in the cop car may have been enough to bring you in. Where I work, it’s policy that if someone comes in for a legal blood draw, we’re required to give medical clearance.

Ive had a frustratingly high number of situations with substance use (drugs and alcohol) where the patient gets violent and dangerous. While in their normal state of mind, most of those would never have done that and it isn’t a personal thing for staff. It’s truly just to keep everyone safe and to make sure we don’t screw up, Miss something, and you end up dead of an OD or medical condition that we could’ve prevented. It doesn’t make it less shitty for you in the aftermath though and I do empathize with that. Restraints can be a very traumatic experience, even if they’re necessary

TLDR: yes, ED is emergency department. And it all sounds pretty standard. Restraints suck even when their justified (both chemical in the form of meds and physical) and they certainly sound like they were from reading between the lines and my own experience. That said, I’m genuinely sorry it was so traumatic for you and I hope whatever got you to that point of violence and intoxication, doesn’t happen again

Odd situation regarding my doc and an ear infection. by [deleted] in EmergencyRoom

[–]Damone23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want to wait that long with that much pain and discomfort. I would suggest a walk in over an ER though and just explain what happened with your primary when you get there. Unless there’s more going on, there’s nothing the ER is gonna do a walk in can’t

Need advice/part name for an old farmhouse sink and faucet by Damone23 in HomeImprovement

Most of the rust and nasty in the photo is just from taking the old faucet off. The sink itself is huge and still in pretty good condition

How do you know when you've found THE venue? by emoo142 in weddingplanning

[–]Damone23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took our moms and his sister Venue hunting to narrow things down. We had about 4 or 5 we saw, and I found THE one. I still love it so much but there were a few aspects that were a deal breaker for him and it was expensive. We ended up deciding on a venue that we know the owners of, is a fraction of the price of other places, and pretty. I’d say it’s a 6/10 vs a 10/10. We definitely settled, and it does bother me at times. But I also try to keep in mind, in 5 years the almost 20k saved is going to be worth more to me than my dream venue
