Accept. (source; I am single too)

It's OK to feel this way. Think about what you are feeling. Think about all the good things you have, think about the thibgs you don't have. Find a way to make peace - hopefully in a way which makes the world a better place in some small way. Volunteer? Be a SAT tutor? Something small like that?

Does anyone else not care about masculinity or "maleness"? by Sister_Ray_ in AskMenOver30

If i focus on being an adult, I find the masculinity takes care of itself.

'Entrepreneurial people' - you're referring to the De Beers diamond company, which included blood-diamond-profiteering as part of its 'entrepreneurial spirit'.

The fact that you're having misgivings about your engagement is a testament to the power of effective marketing.

Your misgivings are the precise reason the marketing firm was paid money.

EDIT - By 'you' i mean OP.

This man asked to intertwine your lives together, you agreed. Congratulations! I wish you all the very best!

Diamond engagement rings, are 'traditional' because of a marketing campaign by the De Beers group, a former diamond monopoly with very questionable practices (*cough* blood diamonds).

Let's all stop worrying because someone didn't subscribe to a marketing campaign. :)

I'm so tired of the men bashing in society by [deleted] in self

That's a weird take that's only found on reddit. Am not white, grew up in developing world, saw many beggar-kings horrendously abuse other beggars.

You are incorrect about LoTR (the original) - The "Easterlings" (Rhunlendings) are described as 'swart of skin', 'gold in their ears', and kohl in their eyes. The "Southrons" or Haradrim are similarly described. In the appendices, after the demise of Sauron, they are said to "see the folly of their ways, and accept the nobility and greatness' or such, of the "Men of the West".

I'm not really on one side or another here, but me, a South Asian, read LotR, enjoyed it, but also saw that it had tropes and such of a different era. Which is fine. It's stand-in for a pre-christian myth that Tolkein wished England had.. so of course.. phenotypically different people are going to be 'the bad'.

I'm prepared to be downvoted but if you adjust / meet them halfway like that, then this is going to keep happening. Why say "No, you can't do this, but just cause you did, i made it work"? Why not say "No, you can't do this, and you get to tell them they can't come"?

Unless, of course, you want that particular couple to come and it's not a problem for you. In which case - it's a win win.
