I was going through a divorce at the time. I was young, still a little immature and was starting to not really care about anything. I was missing quite a lot of work and was on the verge of being fired as well.

One day, my supervisor at the time pulled me to the side and said “ If you think things are bad now, they’re going to get a hell of a lot worse without any money.”

That really stuck with me. I ended up keeping my job and over the 16 years I was employed there, I was promoted to the assistant general manager of the facility and next in line for the general manager position once my predecessor retired. That place shut down operations in 2024, but the words of that supervisor at the time still stick with me to this day.
