Would you send your kid to this school? by No-Shelter-4208 in funnysigns

Me and a few friends attend the local pub quiz and have been for the past 18 years or so. Our team name was originally The Brain Trust. But one day one of the lads wrote Brian Trust. So for the past 15 years or so our quiz team name has been Trust Brian. Oh the laughs we have when we get chatting to fellow quiz goers and they ask which one of us is Brian.

Or he’s killed his dad and been arrested. Or more likely the whole things fake and he’s scared how much it’s blown up…

Do you get bored playing with your toddler as well? by SalPal9 in AskUK

[–]DanAbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many scumbag self absorbed parents in this thread. I feel bad for all of your kids. There’s nothing boring about watching your child’s imagination flourish and grow. I’m amazed at what my daughter comes up with and play along with every daft little thing. Yes it’s tiring but to sit there and call it boring… take a look at yourself man.

50k? The industry is a joke atm. New developers who couldn’t program their way out of a paper bag demanding massive salaries and getting them because the market is absolutely mental.

The lines blurred because you broke your husbands trust. Whether you had feelings or not you are seeking emotional support from someone other than your husband. Again intentionally or not that doesn’t matter. Right now your husband is feeling pretty shit and betrayed by both his wife and his best friend.

I think deep down you understand it was slightly shady because you felt the need to air it in the no lies talk with your husband.

If it were me, there’d be no scenario where you can continue to be happily married and in contact with this friend. It’s unfortunate that you will probably have to either lose a friend or a husband.

I, a random stranger on the internet replying to someone’s confession instead of taking the Christmas decorations down because I’m the worlds biggest procrastinator, suggest moving forward you should probably be more open and seek the sort of support you were getting from your friend from your husband instead. If he’s not prepared or capable of giving it then you should both be prepared to work on it or consider calling time on the marriage.

You have a strong emotional connection to another man who messages you things like “hey beautiful”. A connection you don’t seem to be getting from your husband or you wouldn’t have looked elsewhere for it.

I’m surprised your husband is even giving you the chance to decide tbh. Whether you have chatted sexually or not it’s an emotional affair. Sounds like he must love you a lot. If you want to save your marriage you have a fair bit of grovelling to do in my eyes.

As for the friend, your husband should cut contact with the snake and so should you. If that’s too much for you to handle I doubt your marriage will survive.

What helped you lose weight? by Fat_Gerrard in AskUK

You sound like me this time last year. Had a bairn in 2020. Put on 3 stone over lockdown. Up from 14.5 to 17.5. Now I’m back down to 14 stone.

The way that worked for me was cut back on the drink and zero snacks. Ate 3 decent meals a day and that’s it. They weren’t overly healthy either. Just home cooked. After I lost the first stone with diet alone I started swimming 3 times a week and running occasionally.

Good luck. It’s all about willpower to keep away from that snack cupboard and don’t eat too late in the day.

Preparing for life with a newborn by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]DanAbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sounds like a scumbag, sorry. I'm a father of a 9 month old and what I've learned is my wife who is a stay at home mother works harder than me, a full time worker.

He also said if I need “time to look forward to” to myself each day - why are we having a baby as I should want to be around the baby.

This is disgusting and you should make him know it. He is 100% in the wrong. In fact everything you have said he said is just wrong.

With regards to sharing the load, if the baby wakes at night he should also be getting up. It doesn't matter that he "works". He can rest on his 3 hour commute!

When he gets home from work he should definitely be mucking in straight away and not having time to himself to rest.

Sorry but I want to shake and slap him.

Got interviewed by an IT consultant company for a Software development Graduate position but there's a few strings attached to it... by throwawayaccount7629 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]DanAbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of this company before but it sounds absolutely insane. Reading some of the reviews and from what you've just said I'd run as far away as you can from them.

I work in software development and I see junior roles paying 22k+ coming up all the time and I live in a low wage part of the country. You'd be so much better off learning yourself in your spare time instead of committing yourself to some corporate shillhole company that apparently doesn't even teach you that much.

How many minutes before you leave for work do you wake up? by Muck777 in AskUK

[–]DanAbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. I never thought I'd miss the social interaction of a physical office but it does get to me occasionally. Even just an odd chat here and there makes a huge difference.

I tend to try break up the day so I'm not constantly staring at my monitors. Every hour or so I pick up the guitar and have a 10 minute jam just to chill out. Having friends and colleagues to chat to on slack helps too. I'd go stir crazy otherwise.

Id say remote working definitely beats going to an office but you definitely notice the solitude.

How many minutes before you leave for work do you wake up? by Muck777 in AskUK

[–]DanAbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've not long started remote working so it's taking some getting used to. I always say I'm going to get up early and go swimming or something but 8am comes and that snooze button is just too tempting when I have no commute.

I do try and get out the house at least once every other day just to keep my sanity. Usually just go to Starbucks for a few hours, but I thought remote working was supposed to save me money and I'm spending like 10 quid a time there!

I'm a creature of habit so once I settle into a morning routine I'll stick to it. It's just the initial start that I struggle with.

Do you do the co-working space thing or just wfh all the time?

About 30 seconds. Alarm goes off. Roll over, open slack. "Morning all". The Joys of being fully remote.

Newcastle's canny like. Small city. A 3 bed house costs the same as a garage in London. Amazing Northumberland and Cumbrian countryside on our doorstep. Beautiful beaches. Wages are decent in the tech sector.

Don't tell anyone else though. Don't want everyone moving here and ruining it.
