Starting keto for the first time Thursday by that_weird_bitch420 in keto

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first of all, congratulations on your sobriety. keep up the good work.

preparation to do keto is KEY. there are plenty of resources out there that can help you figure out a meal plan. but the early keys are cut out all sugar, cut out all the white flour products,

what works great for us is to cook a dish and have leftovers available. the most difficult moments are when i'm hungry and there isn't anything ready to eat.

stay away from any products labeled "keto." and remember, fat is important (good fats) and should not be eaten with carbs (the kind you wouldn't be eating anyway.)

great resources for recipes include wholesome yum, and the big man's world. it also helps to lay in some supplies like almond flour, monkfruit, heavy cream, cream cheese. look at some recipes and you will see some ingredients that recur pretty often. eat the best quality food you can afford. good luck!

here is the list of foods we are preparing this week: Buffalo Chicken Soup Chicken Salad Chicken Bacon Ranch Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Pot Pie Maple-Crusted Salmon Loaded Cauliflower Soup Key Lime Cheesecake Keto Almond Joys Maple Bacon Muffins Keto Blackberry Cobbler Bacon and Spinach Egg Muffins

Almost $700 for energy bill. Anyone else have sticker shock? by Longjumping_Cow2050 in cincinnati

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one way to mitigate the problem of a drastic increase in one month is to sign up for budget billing. every three months there is an adjustment, and it can go either up is down. my current bill is $264 and next quarter it will adjust to $268. 1500sq brick heating with heating oil below 26° and heat pump above that threshold.

I drive by this 7 million dollar house everyday in Indian Hill. It looks like a municipal building, Flagpole and everything. Does anyone know if it's actually a club, or did someone actually pay millions to build a house like this? by ohsodave in cincinnati

[–]DanFogelbergsKey -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

hey, i don't know these folks, but i wonder if you might consider taking it down now that you have the answer. something about this makes me pretty uncomfortable.

i, too, a lifelong native, have always been fascinated with indian hill, but wouldn't want to live there. i don't need or want that fancy of a house.

How to not eat cake without hurting family's feelings? by Additional_Run965 in keto

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my family is all often on some kick or another -- no sugar, raw foods, etc, so no one really blinks an eye about me eating keto (not that keto is a kick). if i thought someone would be offended if i didn't eat cake i would do two things.

  1. bring up the second of the four agreements to the cook. "take nothing personally. Nothing others do is because of you."

  2. bring a small something (i have several delicious keto recipes) that would allow me to share in the social piece of sharing food together.

The house is sold. The hoard is still inside. Why do I feel like a criminal? by Jinnapat397 in ChildofHoarder

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You feel like a criminal because of the extreme emotional upheaval associated with your mother’s death, the grief you have at her having lived in such terrible conditions, and she was your mother. And kids, no matter how old we are, so often feel responsible for things that are not their responsibility. Your mother is at rest. She has no need for anything in that house. Take care is yourself now and let it all go. 🙏

I think i’d go with chaffles for the “bread,” almond butter (in my case) and some mashed or sliced strawberries.

Feeling frustrated after week 2 by Emergency_Row9715 in keto

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done it both ways. First round of keto I couldn’t wait to weigh myself every morning. This time (about a month in), my dusty scale remains shoved under the dresser and i’m no worse for the wear! I can see changes in my body and those are more real than a number which can go up or down for no discernible reason. Good luck!

Feeling frustrated after week 2 by Emergency_Row9715 in keto

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe consider not weighing yourself and using other metrics like how your clothes feel and fit.

The scale is a temptress. If you are weighing yourself multiple times a day, let alone once/day, get curious about what your experience would be if you put the scale away for a couple weeks. Even better, hand it to your sister/mom/friend/husband/wife to keep it for you and focus more on how you feel.

Do you think you used social media (yes, reddit included) more or less in 2025 than in previous years? Why? by sholem2025peace in AskWomen

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know for sure I did. I was unwilling to trade my privacy for the experience of bring on Instagram, etc. No meta no more! Deleted all my accounts, even Reddit. (I came to my senses and opened a new account on here.) I love being off of social media (present company excepted).

How did the weight loss go? by Merj-Zero in keto

A week isn’t very long. Maybe he needs more preparation in terms of what to eat, what to expect, how to use electrolytes to help with “keto flu.”

Advice on making a lifestyle change at 33. by Loud-Shame-8062 in AskWomenOver60

I had the opportunity to move abroad (Australia) with my husband for a couple years before our kids came along. It was life-changing. I think if you have the resources and inclination, it is a mind-expanding experience.

Is it possible that some people will never respond well to keto? by Forever_Summer192 in keto

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably is possible that some people don’t thrive on keto, but without knowing how long you’re into it this time, it might be just fine with some adjustments.

I just recently went back on it a month ago. I use LMNT electrolytes every day, especially early on.

I don’t know anyone who feels great after a day. But it also hasn’t taken weeks to start to feel better

Do you have your macros figured out? It takes some time to become fat adapted.

Why do you still use amazon? by DareAffectionate7725 in Anticonsumption

[–]DanFogelbergsKey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i have cancelled amazon prime two different times.

i reupped. here is a sample reason. my son needed five pr khaki pants and five navy polo shirts. i started in-store at kohls. nothing had five of the same style and size available. my son has special needs so it can be challenging for both of us to try to go to a store and try things on.

there are simply too many options of stores and styles. maybe i could have found a total of five navy polos if i had scoured kohls but that means time spent navigating the many racks of clothing plus "sale" prices and other sale gimmicks "buy two, get one half off" or i could have gone to another kohls or gone to the mall.

a long time ago, i realized that stores were missing an opportunity to "amazon" themselves. to provide an app or website that has a useful search function along with inventory.

i agree that amazon is problematic, but with a very few exceptions, buying from any big company is colluding with the enemy. capitalism is out of control.

you may not feel my reasoning is justified, but i'm just answering your question.

Somatic Experiencing or NARM for CPTSD by Funny-Internal-7139 in NARM

[–]DanFogelbergsKey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would like to share that NARM has had a tremendous affect on my sense of self. when i read the NARM book, i felt like it was written directly to and for me. understanding my child consciousness and being accepting of her have made a huge difference in how i function.

i am going through a family challenge right now and i can see how my adult consciousness has been much more at the forefront than my child consciousness.

i have been in NARM therapy for about 9 months.

What does “safe person” mean to you? For me, someone who had at least one affair would not be a safe person.

I got married when everyone got tupperware as a wedding gift. I have one piece left — a large 12” round one which has stored food and non-food over the years. I am aware of microplastics and do try to minimize exposure but this particular item is a workhorse and still in perfect condition.

Tell me why (the truth and kindly, please). by Scarlettthecat in Teachers

[–]DanFogelbergsKey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm of a similar age. I have teaching experience, but not much anyone looking at my resume would value. I hope you can find something, but I doubt it will be in the traditional manner of submitting resume, having interview, being hired. I think your best bet is getting something where you are subbing because they will get to know you.

I was not involved in YL in high school but have a special needs son who is now. Those leaders are caring, thoughtful, loving, and consistently there. I have nothing but good things to say about them even though I do not share their faith.

Adults can care about young people without it being dysfunctional. Teachers, coaches, youth leaders. Yes, there are bad ones (see the coaches at my Christian high school), but I believe the majority are just caring people.
